She caries no aversion for this life, and therefore admitting that digits are frozen from a still heart does not trouble her. As fingers curl around the shoulders of her husband, Carmen leans for- ward to press a kiss against his cheek. She laughs, & the melodious chuckle is released into his skin.
“You must have memorized every word of it by now, Ellie.”
Eleazar raises his eyebrows, mock-aghast, in response to that ludicrously terrible pet name for which he has expressed his great distaste numerous times, most of these in her vicinity. But, despite his appalled and somewhat hurt bearing, he reciprocates a kiss to her cheek.
“That name… I ought to keep reading if you are so intent on calling me that. You know quite well that I shall.”
