((Raises this blog from the dead to ask if anyone would be against a total reboot. ))
*That would have to do until the next week- or until he decide to stir up trouble in his brothers' circles. The former sin scowled at his new appearance in a mirror, running a hand along the stubble at his chin. Funny, he could have called it ironic that the first human form he had since death looked like the very humans he first met. Dark hair and tan skin- sharp features- the demon he'd eaten certainly knew how to pick a good combination of traits. Still, the form looked middle eastern; a far cry from the fair skinned mirror of his favorite host he'd gotten so used to seeing. The four eyes were certainly interesting, he supposed he could keep the second set closed most of the time for appearance's sake. Sprawling tattoos covered his back and arms, seeing to take on a life of their own- courtesy of a perticularly difficult to swallow shade demon. They'd at least function similarly to his old crystals... That alone was comforting despite him still being stuck as a demon. Seems like for now Luck was choosing to favor him*
*It would be the understatement of the century to say the former sin took the end of the magic anon poorly... No, poorly didn't even begin to cover the break down he had at returning to a measly fourth level demon. It was enough. He was going to break the strict laws he'd set in place at the beginning of his reign over his circle and call back on the barbarism of demons. It would be messy, terrible for his reputation, and draw unwanted attention to himself but he couldn't take it any longer! The first kill was almost cheating- he'd snuck up on the higher demon while they were sleeping and slit the creature's throat. They at least had a more human-like form he could take. It was different from what he'd looked like as Nathaniel... No matter. The eventual panic would spread quickly but for now he had to kill more higher demons*
Magic anon sent him back to when he first arrived on Earth. Well, this version of him. Not version 1.0.
*cringes at the thought of facing a live Luxuria again* Well, that's good to know. I'd rather not be stuck babysitting my rival.
Magic Anonymous: until Friday, you will look like you did before you died. Please use this to keep Lust from hurting people while he's lacking in the moral department.
*The switch is instant thanks to the magic- and not in looks alone. The tired slump of his shoulders from spending countless days toiling to bring himself back to his glory is gone in the blink of an eye. His scowl remains- he couldn't go kiss a mirror from sheer joy at being restored in at least appearence, not while there are people who could see him.* What's wrong with the fool now?
Have you found a new host yet, Pride?
*glances up from a nest of open books and maps, giving the anon a deadpan look* Anon, do you honestly think I have any time to spare for such things? After this whole mess is sorted out... Then I'll start actively searching for a new host.
Merry Christmas?
I'm afraid you're a tad late, mortal. Christmas was yesterday.
(( (;7;)''' ))
Redanon: Have a very merry Christmas.
*very nearly spills the hot cocoa he'd been lapping at in surprise- he hadn't expected anyone* Merry Christmas to you too!
*Well, almost Christmas and he still wasn't a sin. As much as he'd wanted to cook a grand feast- one he could easily shrug off as "celebrating his return" rather than holiday spirit- it perhaps was better. (He'd forgotten gifts after all, that would be frustrating to explain) At least he'd gotten a wreath up on the front door... And got the damned thing to stay upright.*
“What?!” Pride’s ears flicked forward immediately, eye widening in surprise. He knew?! How- no. That couldn’t be right! That meant someone else had ordered something and-… And he was probably bluffing. Probably. He scowled, mentally scolding himself at letting his act slip for that moment. It would go unnoticed, surely. His replacement was just as much a fool as he. “All I’ve heard of you is wrong then! They had said you were quite clueless… How presumptuous of me to assume so as well.” The demon’s tails twined together behind his back, lashing as one in irritation. Yet another snag to work out. So the boy would be leaving Hell, likely to avoid it as much as he could without completely losing control of the circle. That ruled out any number of disposable demons to send and meant Lucifer would be taking a greater notice. Traffic between Hell and Earth was all too noticeable- especially if demons were trying to be sneaky about it. “I trust you have a well defended home on the surface then? The assassin they are sending can traverse between Hell and Earth.”
"Don’t act so surprised. I do pay close attention to the happenings in my own circle. They like to believe I am clueless, I’m sure.” In truth, Pride was quite upset about hearing how lowly the demons considered him. While he looked over the demon before him, he further narrowed his eyes. He was so close to figuring out what was happening here. If only the strange creature could talk to him for just a bit longer, he would have it. "I’m sure it can, and I am prepared for that.”
He wouldn't dare say that he was the slightest bit proud at hearing that. The boy knew more than Pride had guessed, as a sin should. Good, staying one step ahead of one's enemies. Well, the majority of them. The young sin would have a long way to go before he could keep up with the original. "If it is not... overstepping boundaries, may I ask how so?" That would be it. Just enough to figure out who to send after his replacement. Someone able to get close enough to attempt to kill him but weak enough to not actually do so. He couldn't have some mere demon stealing his triumph- no, that would be a horribly boring scene. Shakespeare would roll in his grave if such a lowly thing as a stock character were to take the lead actor's glory! But who to send... And how would the grand scene unfold...? The demon shook himself, realizing he'd spaced out slightly while going over prospects in his head. "Pardonne moi, that is a terrible habit of mine. Too imaginative for my own good as they say."
*Taken by surprise by the speech, her wings spread.* A..Ambriel. My name’s..Ambriel. *The hand that she had extended to pet the cat goes back to her side.*
Ambriel? Hmm… No, doesn’t ring a bell. How fortunate. *eye snaps to the movement of her hand, but she hadn’t done anything. Did she not realize he was a demon? Hell, had any of the stronger angels known.. He didn’t want to think about it* From the look of you, I’m going to guess you’re a courier.
Fortunate? *Tilts head, not realizing she had said that out loud.* Ye…Yes I am. A..courier for lesser angels on…only. I’ not…even technically supposed to…know how to get to earth.
….Or deliver m…mail to anyone whose…not lesser.
Yes, fortunate. I’d have had to kill you if I knew you. *swipes a paw over a torn ear as his tails lash* Are you kidding me? What use is a courier who delivers mail to only the lower class?! I understand why Michael- thick as he is- doesn’t allow you on Earth… But yet another segregation of angels? It’s making Hell look like paradise.
*Makes a fearful noise and backs away a bit.* I….I… *Fidgets and pulls her scarf over her nose.* I d…don’t know! *Pulls scarf up to just under her eyes.*
It was a rhetorical question. *The demon sighed heavily at her fear, looking more annoyed by it than entertained. Frankly, it was too easy. He’d just gone on a short rant- Creator knows she’d have had a heart attack had he done so while a sin!* Hiding behind your scarf isn’t going to help much you know. Were I a sin, it would provide the perfect chance to attack you and feed.
Bu..But you’re not a sin. If y..you were i’d…have ran by..by now.
I’m f..fast at flying. I’m s..sure I could out..outrun you. *Takes a few steps back. Maybe she’d run now. Even if he was only a cat- she didn’t like the way he talked.”
*He shouldn't have laughed at that, but still he cackled at her saying she could outrun him* Probably, as demons like myself aren't especially fast. But... Say instead of a demon, I were the original sin. Could you outrun one who is used to hunting angels? *He waves a paw dismissively* Ah, probably too terrifying a thought.
Everything had been going according to plan. The circle was brimming with an edge of discord. Those that had joined the rebels’ cause were working furiously to bring down the whelp. Speaking of which, the boy had even sought out Lucifer’s help! Of all who he could have gone to- the one who murdered the first! That… May have been but one wrench in the gears of his grand comeback. Nonetheless, a minor setback wouldn’t stop what he’d set in motion.
Pride yawned and stretched, pausing in his stalking the castle. It was almost- almost- his once more. Just a little bit more time. He needed to find that chink in his replacement’s armor. That crippling weakness he could use to strike the final blow. Then everything would be right again. He’d sit the throne, the demons would settle down, Lucifer would be outraged, and most importantly- everyone could forget the whole fiasco of him dying had ever happened. If it took living as a demon for another week- another year even! No, he hadn’t the time. Yet speak of the devil, there was his replacement. Perfect timing. So long as the boy still thought him dead, the elder could pry anything he needed out of him. “Ah, Monsieur! A moment of your time, s’il vous plait!”
Pride was stressed, beyond so, by the events taking place in his circle of Hell. It was all he could think about. He hated having to go to his Father for help, and he hated asking Humility questions even more, but it had to be done. If he was going to save his own skin, he would have to make some sacrifices, and acknowledging that he would not make it out of this on his own was one of those.
He was trying to rush out of his circle, and out of Hell, when he heard someone calling him. He whipped his head around, catching a strange looking demon with a strong, familiar aura trying to talk to him. “What, what is it?” Pride hissed. “I hardly have a moment to spare so make it quick.”
The demon trotted over and bowed respectfully, hiding an amused grin. The young sin was looking more anxious than he’d expected and doing a poor job at hiding it too; were the elder not so focused on acting, he’d have scolded the boy for letting it show. “You must forgive me, sir. But this is- ah… How do you say it? Urgent? That sounds about right.” Great… Lying. Why did he have to get so out of practice with it? Damn his self-imposed honesty! He had to come up with something clever and fast. It’s not like the truth would have fooled anyone… Or he could play a turncoat and betray his own rebellion. It wouldn’t be the first time he’d done so. “I come with a warning. These usurpers… I hear they have become impatient and plan to attempt an assassination within the coming hours.” Brilliant… Just brilliant. Something he’d have to both order and find someone suitable for. It would be so much easier to just do it all himself. At least it would be a decent story to stick to.
There was something very off about this creature. Something very off indeed. The way he talked and moved, it was all too familiar to the young Sin. With furrowed eyebrows, he crossed his arms over his chest and straightened up, trying to wipe any sign of nerves or fear from his posture. “I am aware of this.” He wasn’t outright lying. While he knew they were getting impatient, well, saying he knew it would be this soon wouldn’t be the full truth. “That is why I am leaving Hell for the moment. Is that all?”
"What?!" Pride's ears flicked forward immediately, eye widening in surprise. He knew?! How- no. That couldn't be right! That meant someone else had ordered something and-...
