that “she guessed my favourite colour to be yellow and though I didn’t have a fav colour I agreed and now I see yellow everywhere” post?  that…. that defined love for me when I was 14 ….. it’s one of the best posts on this site. I just saw it right now and it’s close to a million notes….. I love that so many people were impacted by it too. I love how romance is so universal. it’s so magical! you know that other post like “maybe we wouldn’t have romance if we didn’t have the concept of it idealised in media” nah I disagree with it. in my eyes romance is inherent to the human experience …. it’s one reason to stay alive. there’s this shinji moon poem and a line of it, that I remember reading long long ago, was about seeing a bouquet of beautiful flowers in a garbage bin, and the line went like “I was going to talk about how sad it was but realised you already knew.” or something along those lines and !! yes. the way everyone can recognise the sadness and beauty of it at once. there is some hidden, metatextual language of romance that everyone recognises at least a little, even if some people are more fluent in it than others!!! I know so, instinctually….. WOW I’M STARRY EYED OVER A CONCEPT OF A CONCEPT TODAY!!! INCOHERENT WATER SIGN HOURS CONTINUE

A/N : dear anon, thank you for your request and for giving my writing a try. i did my best however, i wasn’t sure if there was a need for a reader-included scene so i kept it about them in general. i hope you like it and feel free to come back again!

  The guys had been of Subin’s arrival for a while. The youngest in their household had started a career as a competitive swimmer besides dipping his nose into book after book on the daily. A scholarship was right around the corner and his grades were proving him worthy of a shot and even though he didn’t see a career as a swimmer as something he’d live with in the long run. It  was the bridge it provided him to do what he dreamt of without worrying too much about the expenses. While the others had more books to look into, essays to work on – the oh sweet college life – Subin was the only one in high school, patching his way through until he could make it to the final stage of education before stepping into the real world.

  He had already started to get a taste of what that felt like as he was allowed to move in with his friends as long as they took well care of him apart from providing his family with updates about him.

  There laid some motivations behind his determination, but as of late, there was a reason part of his motivation had spiraled down, leading up to him picking up a certain habit his roommates had yet to find out about.

  The smell lingering around Subin reminded the others of the ocean or just the air after the rain had stopped; chilly with a woody base, fresh floral, citrus and narcissus among other types of scents surrounding marine freshness. It was indeed refreshing to one’s nose but a good enough masking tactic. He just had to thread through his brothers nagging him about sharing the fragrance he had associated himself with lately.

  Subin would fool around with the others like their usual selves, but that Subin had been AWOL as soon as he entered the campus. He’d go on about his day, attentively pay attention to whatever was new that day as well as looking for his spot during lunch one period before his swimming activities. He had upgraded his schedule that much to hopefully keep his brothers from worrying as well as taking care of whatever was bothering him.

    The familiar narrow cylinder came into view as soon as he had sat down in a secluded spot, cloaked by trees just outside the school gate with a perfect view of everything and everyone. He brought up his lighter before he was able to blow out a puff of smoke into the air as he watched it disperse until it vanished from his sight. It wasn’t a usual sight around others and he knew just when to let go. The perfect opportunity was there all along and the water he jumped into every day to practice his skills, were an excellent ticket to hide the evidence of something he sure would get an earful about.

  Logically it would lead to a chain reaction of his pals wanting to find out the very reason he picked up a negative habit. After all, he was left under their care so he could achieve his goal. He wasn’t prepared to come out with the truth, especially since his heart and head were too stubborn to get along for a mutual understanding. He needed the isolation for as long as he felt comfortable with.

  As an extra measure he’d whipped out his credit card to purchase some fragrance to help mask the smoke. He knew his clothes would surely give away his secret. If only he thoroughly thought about his storage, he wouldn’t have been in the hot seat.

  Subin had been scrambling about, the contents of his bag turned upside down during lunch right after arriving at his spot. He swam just fine, practice went well, but his friend who’d always accompany him hadn’t shown up by his side for days. The downfall he’d been coping with outside the guys’ knowledge.

    Subin had come home to the infamous package he’d been going crazy about. It just didn’t lay on the coffee table unsupervised. Seungwoo had been staring at it as if the innocent object had done him wrong.

  Slowly, quietly but surely Subin closed the door even though the slightest creaking of the door could be heard throughout a nearly silent house. He’d been found out and it was time he had come forward about it.

  “Are you okay?,” Seungwoo asked, slowly lifting up his eyes to look at their youngest roommate. He wanted to know whether there was something bothering Subin rather than pointing fingers at him. But Subin fell silent, not exactly sure how to answer that question.

  “Whatever made you feel the need to resort to this?” Seungwoo lifted up the half empty package, shaking it slowly to show the sadness he’d felt. He was disappointed in himself for failing to look after someone else’s son. He couldn’t yell at him for it would make things worse.

  Seungsik emerged from his room, hair a mess and eyes displaying remnants of exhaustion. Seungwoo hadn’t batted an eye at him, but instead softly petted the seat beside him, beckoning Subin closer so he could hopefully talk to him.

  “Will you get mad at me?” There was a slight presence of a tremble in his voice as Seungsik invited himself into the situation. Subin was made aware that the others knew, but only Seungwoo and Seungsik were at home to get a hold of him.

  “Don’t worry about us getting mad, we only care about why.” Seungsik’s voice was filled with grogginess from his sleep and it sent a comforting vibe to Subin, whom released a sigh of relief.

  A picture of the day before his newly found habit had developed came into his mind as he slowly allowed his mind to replay that event. He looked at his best friends in front of him before shaking his head. “I can tell you, but only once,” he admitted, indicating to the lack of roommates around him to which the duo agreed.

    Later that night, Subin was to finally lay the case to rest with enough hope for the others to help pull him through. “I only started when..”
