“you don’t even know the half of them.” he swore, taking her hand in his, his lips met the soft skin. “you’re smart, strong. you know what you want and you’re not afraid to go for it. the way you carry yourself — it’s  exquisite. how you manage to charm every soul you come across with a simple look. to top it all off you’re the most beautiful being i’ve ever laid eyes upon. and there’s so, so much more.”

aphrodite was entranced by his first comment, so even as his hand took hers, and his lips did their work, she focused entirely on his words. she’d heard compliments for centuries about her beauty, about other things as well, but when ares said them, she knew they were true. they were said for the purpose of receiving something, or with any expectations what so ever. they were genuine, real, everything about him was real, and it made her heart sing, and the nonexistent butterflies in her stomach flutter. she pressed her lips against his in a gentle kiss, her passion just as real as it had been for centuries. “the mortals make me question whether love still exists.” she whispered. “but all it takes is you talking to me to remind me that love could never cease to exist so as long as we have each other, ares.”

“you think too highly of me, peitho.” she replied as she reached out and took her friend’s hand, holding it gingerly in her own. “i don’t know who i’d be without you... what is love without you?”
