Y/n was considered one of many âsweetheartsâ of Camp Halfblood. Aphroditeâs cabin is full of them, children who love way harder than they should. Itâs not even always romantic, they just have so much empathy for anything and everything. Y/n is no exception. The only issue she has with this is that other campers, especially Aresâs kids, tend to not so subtly make comments towards her and her siblings for not training enough for their liking. She was slowly growing frustrated with hearing snarky comments about her lack of fighting skills. So, she seeks out the help of the best swordsmen she knows.
Luke Castellan.
Luke is an intense camper to say the least. A skilled swordsman, but not the easiest to approach at times. He belongs to cabin 11, Hermesâs cabin. It was always bustling with campers. Some unclaimed, some actual children of Hermes. It was safe to say it was never truly quiet in cabin 11, which probably explains why Luke is usually training far away from his respective cabin.
Y/n finds him training with a dummy after dinner one day, adjusting her own bag over her shoulder before she returns to her own cabin for the night. Heâs a skilled warrior, possibly one of the best at camp. Hopefully heâd be able to help her, or else find someone who could.Â
âLuke?â Y/n speaks finally, breaking the continuous sound of metal meeting the wooden dummy. She was at least hoping to catch him in between attacks. Her body tenses slightly as he turns at the sound of his name.Â
âYeah?â His gruff voice responds as he turns. She could feel her heart begin to race as his dark brown eyes met hers. Her hand tightens around her bag before she finally forces herself to speak up. He was a lot more attractive up close than she realized.Â
âHey, so. I was maybe wondering if you could help me train? I kind of suck at it and-.â Y/n starts, but cuts off when she hears a laugh. Did he just laugh at her question?
He laughed at her question, swinging his sword expertly as his eyes trail over her frame. A daughter of Aphrodite asking him for training lessons? It wasnât unusual, sheâs seen him tutor other campers with no problem.Â
âYou donât suck at it. You just donât practice enough.â He responds, twirling his sword in his hand before resting it against the training dummy. He takes a moment to analyze the girl with his arms crossed over his chest, quietly figuring out the best way to train her. âWhy not Clarisse? Iâve seen you hanging around her.â He adds curiously.Â
Y/n hums, crossing her own arms over her chest as she watches him. Okay, maybe it would take some convincing.Â
âHave you met Clarisse? Sheâs brutal, I was hoping youâd be a bit nicer.â Y/n admits, her eyes flickering behind her at the sound of other campers walking by to go hang out by the lake. She tilts her head slightly as she looks back at Luke, hoping she wouldnât have to beg. From what sheâs heard, Luke brags but he isnât a complete jerk. Clarisse is blunt, but if you got on her good side she wasnât so bad. âPlease?â She adds gently, softening her eyes. After a few beats of silence, Lukeâs lips slowly curve into a soft smile.Â
âIâm just messing with you. Iâll help you.â He agrees, uncrossing his arms. He moves to grab his sword from against the dummy. âMeet me here tomorrow morning. Bright and early.â

The next morning, Y/n makes sure sheâs awake before the sun even comes up much to the dismay of her siblings. Once sheâs ready, the sun is barely rising. She quickly makes it out to the training grounds just to find sheâs the first one there. Sheâd be lying if she said she wasnât terrified of what Luke has in store for her training. It was no secret Luke trained hard.Â
Minutes tick by, turning into almost 30 minutes since she arrived.Â
Without warning, Luke abruptly swings at Y/n with his sword. She manages up a fight despite her little to no training before ultimately falling to the ground, her sword falling beside her as the pain settles in her bones. A slight groan leaves her lips as she sits up on her elbows to look up at him.Â
âThat wasnât fair.â She protests, sitting up with a pained groan.Â
Luke playfully laughs, reaching down to help her up. This was exactly what he wanted to prove to the girl. âProves my point. You gotta be aware of your surroundings at all times.â He extends his hand in an offering to help her up. Maybe he bit off more than he can chew by agreeing to train her, but itâs hard to say no to her.Â
Y/n reaches up, letting him pull her up effortlessly. She brushes off her clothing before straightening up again. She was determined to learn everything she can from the best swordsman at camp.Â

Late one night, Luke insists on training after dinner. Y/n was exhausted and ready to just curl up in her bunk with a nice book instead of training for however Luke deems long enough. It had previously rained, which makes it even less appealing. She was distracted, that much was obvious. Over these past few weeks, she could feel herself slowly falling for the skilled swordsman. She couldnât tell if it was because they were consistently around each other now or if she actually had feelings, but she was definitely interested in figuring it out. Maybe it was his cologne, or his muscles, or maybe even his gentleness towards her, or-.
âYouâre not even paying attention!â Luke calls out, swinging his sword and managing to catch her off balance. He reaches down, offering to help her up off the dirt as he usually does.Â
Rae growls in frustration as she takes his hand to tug herself up and out of the dirt. All she wanted was to be nice and clean back in her bunk but instead here she was, her entire back stained with mud. It felt gross and disgusting to not be perfectly clean. âWould be happier if I wasnât covered in mud just because you wanted to train.â She mumbles, shaking off her hands before grabbing her sword out of the mud. She quickly focuses on overpowering him, using her frustration towards him to motivate her.Â
âThere she is.â Luke praises, blocking her attacks. Y/n swings, narrowly dodging one of his attacks.
âCome on, pretty girl. You can do better than that.â Luke adds as he dodges her swing.
Y/n slips in the mud at his words. Did she hear him correctly? Luke Castellan calling her âPretty Girlâ?Â
Lukeâs free hand reaches out, tugging her waist towards him to keep her upright. Sheâd have his head on a platter if she got a speck of dirt on her clothes. Her body presses against his own, little to no space between the two of them.
Y/n looks up at him with those big eyes heâs so enamored with. Always soft and caring even when sheâs frustrated with him for having her out past her âme timeâ as she calls it. Despite it nearing curfew, her cheeks were obviously flushed in the darkness.Â
Y/n blinks up at him, neither of them saying a word. They were so close that she could feel his breath fanning over her face. This was the closest theyâve ever been and she could feel herself growing intoxicated by his close presence.Â
His nose nudges hers, pulling a soft breath out of her lips once she realizes what was happening. Y/n tilts her head up, wetting her lips slightly as her eyes flicker between his dark brown eyes and his full, pink lips sheâs been dying to kiss for weeks now.Â
âCan I kiss you?âÂ
Those four words are the four she never thought sheâd hear spill from his lips. It leaves her speechless, her head slowly nodding in confirmation as her sword falls from her hand with a clang. Luke leans in once she gives him the greenlight, closing the distance between them without another word.Â
Their lips collide, soft and delicate at first as if he was testing the waters. Y/n slides her hand up into his dark curls to pull him closer. His lips were even softer than she imagined. Beside her, she hears his sword fall to the ground before both his hands tug at her waist. His frame is warm and strong against hers, holding her against his stronger frame with a surprisingly amount of gentleness.Â
Against her will, Y/n smiles into the kiss. Sheâs been wanting this for so long and now that itâs happening itâs a bit overwhelming.Â
âWhat?â Luke smiles, pulling away to catch his breath as he feels a slight burn in his lungs from a lack of oxygen. Y/nâs smile only widens once her eyes open to see his plump lips with a hint of her lipgloss glistening on them.Â
âJust happy.â She hums, reaching up and wiping his lips with her thumb.
