Hey, so, who are your best friends outside of your cabin at camp?

Hmmm, hard question, but I guess I'd have to say Lee Fletcher. Our cabins share a number of activity slots, so we've spent a lot of time together over the years. He's actually the one who taught me how to shoot! He's also been really patient with all the random crap I have a tendency to freak out about, though he's also the first to call me a dumbass when it's stupid things I don't need to worry about. Or if I get injured in a stupid way. All in all he's a solid, dependable guy who's helped me a lot over the years, and provides an honest, no nonsense perspective when I need it. He also makes an absolutely killer s'more and plays the best songs at the campfire. Here's a photo I have of him being a good sport and letting me put a flower crown on him after he had a long infirmary shift . (He hates those, he'd always rather be at the archery range.)

I have a lot of other friends, but he's the only one who'd truly earn the title of "Best Friend" I think. Well, that's still alive anyway... But we're not going to get into that right now, it's too depressing.

What's your favorite part about being an Aphrodite Kid?

The absolute, unshakeable knowedge that the beauty industry is full of shit. I look at myself and my siblings and I see so many things the industry tries to tell us are undesirable, some of us are fat, have glasses, or braces, Lance has vitiligo, I have stretch marks, and we're all children of the Goddess of Beauty. That means she found these traits beautiful enough to pass them to her children, and who can argue with that?

Let's get some lighter hearted questions going! Do you have a favorite candy?

I do! Heh, my favorite candy is actually candy canes. My birthday is not long after Christmas so there's tons of suuuuper cheap candy canes to be had for it~. I go every year and scoop up a bunch to have the rest of the year since, as far as I've noticed, they don't really go bad as long as you keep them sealed and don't let them melt. And I don't care what anyone else says, they DO taste different than other peppermint candies. I love peppermint in general, but candy canes reign supreme!

Also, I just want to add that those weird flavored novelty candy canes, like the fruit ones or the ones based off other candies? Inferior, terrible, absolutely awful. Peppermint is far superior, and the ones that masquerade in peppermint's colors but aren't must have escaped from the Fields of Punishment or something.

The only nonpeppermint ones that get a pass in my book is these strawberry ones I found one time. They tasted like actual strawberries! Unfortunately they were from this one mom-and-pop candy shop I found one year and then never saw again, which makes me sad.

Do you have a favorite myth?

A favorite myth, huh? Heh, well, uh, when I was younger it was Atalanta and the Golden Apples. I thought that the plan with the apples was clever, and applauded Hippomenes for actually thinking to consult my mother. But over time I've come to dislike aspects of the story, including how it shows my mother's jealous, petty side. Like, c'mon Mom, Atalanta was a hunter and a maiden, of COURSE she was gonna honor Artemis! Also, turning them into lions was unnecessary, you could have just been like "hey, don't forget you owe me" and they probably would have sent a sacrifice or whatever your way.

Also, uh, for personal reasons I find I'm not so fond of the symbolism of golden apples anymore.

Currently I'm not sure what my favorite myth is... But I'll tell you one thing, my least favorite is that bullshit story from the Iliad about my mom apparently being so incompetent on the battlefield that she needed to be rescued after getting her wrist nicked. Like EXCUSE ME!? She was revered as a warrior goddess in several places! She's not some weak, dainty little thing! AUGH!
