Today is the 2 year anniversary of the day //ApK moved into our first office. Today also marks a minor milestone in our journey as a boutique media company. This morning, the Guardian UK premiered a video that we directed for the Cults cover of Leonard Cohen classic, 'Everybody Knows'. Within the hour, Pitchfork also featured the video and alas, we had our first video that we created and produced, make it to Pitchfork. It's a small honor, but an honor nonetheless.
Directed by Daniel Navetta and produced by //ApKmedia, this is the first of 3 videos we created for the 'Old Friends, New Ideas' series. Leonard Cohens' new album, titled 'Old Friends' came out yesterday. Look out for the other videos from the the series.

In 2011, Henry Wolfe put out one of the best records of the year... and you probably didn't hear it. We think that's a damn shame, so we invite you to see him tonight, Friday January 20th at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn.
//New Video: Death Cab For Cutie
I know, I know. Death Cab is soooooooooooo lame. BUT this new video of their's is actually pretty awesome. The song is called 'Underneath The Sycamore' off of their latest record Codes and Keys. Well I guess it's technically, off of their remix EP, Keys and Codes but whatever. Either way, the song isn't horrible and the video is a well executed mixed media experiment that, I think, fits the song really well. So there.

Recently CNN decided that it would be great idea for the hosts of their early morning program (who knew they even had an early morning program) to prank call people of varying degrees of fame people at 5am. Wouldn't you know it, the bit wasn't funny and generally in poor taste. Here to comment on this disaster of a showis Jon Stewart.

//New Music: Leonard Cohen
Check out this new track titled 'Darkness' by legend, Leonard Cohen.
A new Leonard Cohen track is always worth noting because, well, he's an incredible musician, songwriter and human being for a start. His music has spanned generations and has inspired— and I really do mean inspired— some of the best artists and bands in the game right now as well as those classic acts from the past.
Today, however, it is especially poignant. Yesterday, //ApK produced a special for Sony Music in which several super talented musicians payed tribute to Leonard Cohen by covering the songs that inspired their work. I can't tell you who was there (spoilers and all that), but I can tell you that yesterday was pretty moving, even for crass, jaded music snobs the likes of us.
We'll let you know when it comes out, though you'll probably see it on the blogs before we do. In the meantime, check out this new track and revisit some of the old ones. You'll be surprised where they take you.

2011 was an INCREDIBLE year for music videos. It could be something in the water or maybe it was aliens, but the artists— from the musicians to the directors to the editors_ got real busy this past year. They spared no expense, they didn’t take no for an answer and the result was a year of videos that continue to leave lasting memories. Here’s our picks for the best music videos of 2011!
Beyonce // Countdown
You had to have seen this coming.
Cults // Go Outside
For the life of me I cannot figure out why everyone missed this video. It's completely amazing! The way new footage of Cults was seamlessly woven into the old footage of Jonestown was genius. The song, which samples parts of George Jones' speeches, was only made more haunting and real by the grim visuals the band decided to use here. Seriously, one of the best videos of the year, if not THE BEST.
Real Estate // It's Real
Real Estate? Awesome dogs? Sweaters? This video needs no description.
Kreayshawn // Gucci Gucci
This video warrants a top spot for a few reasons. First, this song is kinda rad. Second, the video, while simple and similar to every other rap video, has a feel to it that I really like. I think it must be that California sun. Lastly, her and her retarded sister made such a splash this year that she had to Gucci, Gucci her way into the mix.
Black Lips // Raw Meat
I. Can't. Stop. Watching. This. Video.
Directed by a homie of mine Phil Pinto, who's directed a few really awesome videos for equally as awesome bands, this video was actually Co-Produced by Urban Outfitters. I know what you're thinking, since when did UO do anything that wasn't terrible, a total rip-off or both? There is a first time for everything I guess. Play, watch, repeat.
Tyler, The Creator feat. Frank Ocean // She
I don't usually like to double up, but this video is also fairly bonkers. It's definitely not the same kind of weird we saw in the Yonkers video, but really weird never the less. This was one of the best songs off of Tyler's record Goblin, an album that garnered mixed results from audiences upon it's release last summer.
TV On The Radio // You
//ApK has done a couple projects with these guys. Every time we've worked with them, it's been a blast. This video is a little bit more personal than the others since we like them so much and since the untimely passing of bassist Gerard Smith. Even without all that, however, this video is hilarious and is unquestionably one of my favourite videos of the year.
Beirut // Santa Fe
For those of you who haven't seen this little bit of Beirut-ness, I must warn you: it's kinda depressing. I mean, it's a great video. It's shot really nicely, the story is compelling, the acting is good, not to mention the song is cool. It's just a little bit sad, which is probably why I like it so much.
Bon Iver // Holocene
Shot on location in Iceland, this video for Holocene wins the award for the most beautiful video of the year. Granted, with backdrops like those featured in this video I think it'd be pretty hard make an 'unattractive' video. Still, Bon Iver and director NABIL did some serious work with this one. The song isn't so bad either and was easily a runner up on my top five songs of the year.
