OK BUT!!! can you imagine how enoch must’ve felt? it’s a well known fact that he was a pious man through all of his life --- never once has sinned, has always “walked with God” ( which means he was firm in faith, wholeheartedly devout, never once strayed from His path ), and he was one of the very few mentions from the bible of excellent men. he has an absolutely clean record, and his life wasn’t so much his own as it was God’s.
over and over enoch is said to have had a very intimate, very close relationship with God; however, according to the book of enoch, he suffered for his faith, and yet never wavered. in his lifetime, it was possible he had been ridiculed for that same faith he holds on to so dearly, holding on to someone who he has never seen. what makes him so sure God actually exists? nothing, but he still believed.
there’s simply no words for what his ascension to heaven meant to him. he steps into His home and is welcomed, and he is human no longer but one of His angels. he doesn’t have to experience anything but bliss now that He has ascended him.
i just??? I REALLY LIKE THIS PANEL, because he’s so genuinely happy!!!! and even the word happy is cutting it so very short!!!! and we get a glimpse of what he used to be like in the beginning, and why metatron is the way he is. here, enoch is hopeful, but metatron is bitter.
why is that? metatron’s key characteristic is that he yearns for his human life. he’s looked down upon for his human roots, but he’s also one of the most important angels. from his very first glimpses, we’re shown his attachment to humanity, ranging from their customs ( cosplaying ), to their objects ( toys, sweets ). his persona as sean was not fake, ulterior motives or not. he was sincerely excited about returning to his home ( i believe he does say home? ), and home now is with humans, not with Him in heaven.
when he was ascended, it wasn’t out of heaven’s good will. he was simply convenient. a clay puppet. his life, his devotion, his faith --- it meant nothing to them. heaven isn’t what he was promised. he feels deceived, and he feels betrayed. he dedicated his soul and heart and mind to them, and he turns out to be nothing but another pawn; he wasn’t being rewarded by his good actions as enoch, he was being used for their own agenda. it’s really no wonder metatron is the way he is.
