welcome to my twisted blog
happy monday iām in a mood
I understand that "bi lesbians" are bullshit cuz obviously you are either one or the other but I donāt see why bi women canāt be butches or femmes? those terms includes bis when they were made originally
Hi! i have a lot of love for butch/femme history so this was alot of fun. i think the first thing to this is that yeah, butch/femme culture at one point included bisexual women. but so did the word lesbian. any woman who had any level of same-sex attraction and acted on it was called a lesbian up until the 70s. but now society acknowledges the difference between lesbian and bi women, and that difference is based on sexuality. (and even during that time [1940-60s] working class lesbians/bar culture had their own opinions on this topic as well, but a lot of that history has been lost)
the breakdown is this:
femme is the intersection of womanhood, femininity and homosexuality.
butch is the intersection of womanhood, masculinity, and homosexuality.
and both do so in a way that rejects heteronormative standards and values. (its also important to note that not every lesbian falls into butch or femme, they are very niche subgroups/cultures no matter how it might feel on tumblr lol)
femmes and butches reclaim large parts of their identity by subverting and rejecting the norms placed on women. which is why bisexual women can't be butch or femme, as they canāt reject or subvert those norms because of their attraction to men. they might choose to not act on their attraction to men, but they canāt deny it either
butch and femme identities also describe relationships, whether romantic, platonic, community minded or in our relationships to ourselves as individuals. it's a very personal journey to 'becoming' butch / femme, and its one that bi women just don't experience
i don't understand why someone would label themselves as something they aren't, like labelling yourself as a lesbian while liking dick. those two thing can't exist mutually, just like bisexuality and femmeness/butchness
(i also have some stuff about butch/femme identity reblogged and tagged as such if you want to read more and from others perspective xx)
I love this feeky ting
im not "blackmailing you" okay i am casually reminding you of information that i have about you that i could hypothetically give to another person to negatively impact your life as a way of getting you to do what i want you to do. thats not blackmail ok we're just having a conversation. im just talking
Oh my goddd what we couldāve had
My understanding is that sheāll be coming around the mountain when she comes
I am a simple woman. I enter the kitchen. I eat four servings of bread products. I leave.
oh ok
Objectively correct stance to have
People are so indoctrinated by patriarchy that mentioning something neutral like "men on average are physically stronger than women" will get you accused of saying women are inferior to men. Like, nobody said that, you are the one who believes physical strength equals worthiness and value as a human being and is projecting it on completely neutral assumptions.
