People who feel "shamed" or "dirty" in comparison to gold stars are projecting hardcore. It's deep regret and sour grapes in my opinion. No one is filthy and unlovable for having had previous sexual encounters with men (!!!), but if you had sex with a man and you aren't into men, it can make you feel that way. Your feelings don't come from other people -- they come from your own beliefs. There's no bug from gold star lesbians that can make its way into your bloodstream and cause you to feel dirty or ashamed. Only your OWN beliefs about sex with men can make you feel that way. Change your beliefs, and over time your feelings will change.

To me, the fact that some women react to the very existence of gold stars by feeling dirty and stigmatized is further proof that gold-star-ism should be celebrated -- because that means that we all recognize what a horrible and regrettable thing it was to give into the pressure to "try it out." It's fine to regret having sex with men. I tried it and hated it. But that's not the fault of gold stars!! I made that choice!!! I wish I could go back in time and be strong and wise enough to say no, to trust my own feelings, to trust that I know who I am. But I can't change the past, I can only help create a future where lesbians are safe and loved enough to know who they are. I think that the more we do to lessen lesbophobia in the world, the more the percentage of gold star lesbians will increase, because fewer lesbians will feel this immense pressure to begin with. I think gold stars are brilliant and wise and strong for standing up for themselves in a way I didn't, and I could never feel anything other than joy for them.
