I want to start this off by saying that we are on the more endo neutral/anti endo side of believing than not BUT we will not harass anyone who claims to be an endo cause we're normal fucking people. Plus I'm an alter in the system who doesn't hold back my opinions so I seem really mean and rude and rambley so just a heads up
I'm so glad we're not the only system who thinks there's some shady shit with SP's dev. Like launching Simply Plus a few months ago (don't exactly remember when) then during the announcement of sunsetting the app you say you've been thinking about this for months? THEN WHY DID YOU RELEASE A PAID VERSION OF SP?!?!?! Not to mention it coming out that SP's dev helped out octocons dev who was (and lets face it still is) anti endo when (correct me if I'm wrong) SP's dev was an endo themselves?
There's so much shady talk around SP's dev and the way there handling things it's like they want everyone to go "well that sucks" and move on and not think about anything when people shouldn't do that especially if they put money into the app itself? Like where did the money go was it all used to fund the app like it should have been? IDN
Also not to mention that they said they didn't want to give away the source code and make it open source (I think??? I know there was problems with handing it off to a team even though a team worked on SP which don't get me started on that) because it could leak privacy? If the code leaks privacy then it's shitty code and your a shitty coder point blank.
OMG so much with the dev just pisses me the fuck off honestly. Should people harass them FUCK NO if you do that your a horrible person but you don't have to suck up all your deserved anger and hold your tongue.
Literally while writing this Octocon had announced a statement about their past in their discord too I know I'm not talking about Octocon (I haven't read the post yet but I like that there owning up to their shady past instead of ignoring it)
IDN how to end this ramble fest off
i don’t doubt that all the money went towards the app but i do think it’s shitty to not express when releasing a new feature that there is a chance for the app to be shutting down soon, especially when there’s an annual subscription feature. i think helping other developers is fine and a good idea but when you aren’t transparent about the specifics of that help and make only that app be your main recommendation? i find that odd and shady,,
i saw someone mention that the reason they may not want to give out the source code is due to privacy concerns in the code which is fine but i think if they explained that people would be far more understanding than how vague they’re being. as well as how they’re making self hosting an option essentially only if people stop criticising them entirely and if they find enough time through the hate,, it overall just seems like a huge power play thing to me than anything else, but that’s just my opinion 🤷 i don’t doubt they’ve been harassed and deserve a break before focusing on self hosting but they way they’ve phrased it and still don’t want to make it open source overall is just peculiar to me
i’m currently reading octocon’s statement and weighing the situation for myself but ignoring explicit allegations, people are allowed to dislike an app! wether it be the ui or the loading or just simply moving apps,, nobody is forced to like your app and people are allowed to express that. i think that’s the hardest thing about singularly ran projects such as these, the criticism can feel so much more personal and like an attack when it’s often just pointing out the obvious
i don’t think anyone deserves to be harassed but i do think both devs, especially amaryllis, need to learn to close the social sites and take a minute,, there’s an option to step away and breathe without needing to shut everyone down and force people to not even be allowed to criticise you
