“Minister, I believe my time would be better suited to projects of real merit,” she said. Malfoy’s nostrils flared, and Hermione’s lips twitched with success at landing the jab. “I’ve provided Head Unspeakable Kershaw with my proposals, several of which I think would be—”

“Swottiest Witch of Her Age,” Malfoy muttered under his breath.

Hermione whipped her head in his direction and hissed, “Dementor Spawn.” 

It was childish, but honestly, he started it.

“Malfoy.” Granger inched into the opening left by the muggle woman and dropped her voice into a harsh whisper. “I’m a witch.” 

Oh. Right. He’d never forgotten something like that before. 

She sighed. “You should leave. If you came here just to ruin my evening—”

Draco sneered. “Why would I do that?” 

He half hoped the Brightest Witch of Her Age would tell him, because he’d also like to know what the fuck he'd been thinking.

“I don’t know why you do anything you do, Malfoy!” She exclaimed, her voice taking on the shrill quality he quite enjoyed.
