“Yes, I have. I doubt there are few who haven’t, at least in my time and place.”
She wondered if it was strange for him to talk of his life in this way, probably stranger than it was for her to be meeting someone like him. After all, this was what she had been experiencing since she arrived to the city, but now the situation was reversed. He was from a time long before hers, and just as he was a legend to her, she might as well be history.
Regardless… Evie did her best to remain centered, even if this was all very exciting to her.
“Do you have an issue with my being a knight?”
His response seemed a little unnecessary, in her opinion, though she couldn’t help but wonder what made him respond in such a manner. It couldn’t just be her gender, could it?
“Still, it’s a bit different from what you’d think of a knight. I was knighted by Queen Victoria, but it’s more of… an honor, to recognize the work I’ve done for England. However, I do not serve the crown, as much as she might like me to.”
Only if someone’s hurt? Perhaps an ordinary person would have stopped there, accepted that proof could be shown at a later time, but Evie needed to know he was telling the truth. Aside from that, it would be rather amazing to see actual magic. Luckily, she didn’t need to do anything brash at this point, though she might have if it was absolutely necessary
“Let’s see your magic then.”
Instead she simply removed her top layer of robes so that her arms would be exposed. He could attack her easily now, but… she had plenty of experience fighting like this.
She pointed to one of several scars that marked her. Although it didn’t hurt, it would take some time to fully heal.
