you’ll catch a cold
i love characters who are lying liars that are so good at lying that nobody knows who they really are because they’re constantly performing
yun from the kyoshi novels is so the cure by olivia rodrigo coded
finally got the time to start the scarecrow and i am so intrigued so far by how this show exists in a post-2020 world and how much the narrative takes that into stride. these crimes have followed a whole nation for thirty three years and almost all of the film/television on it has been a tribute to that haunting: the ghost you never directly saw, the forever unanswered question, the wound that never healed. until it did. six years after lee choonjae's sentencing, six years after yoon sungyeo's conviction being overturned, and finally the question is not who did this? why? where are you now? the question is: how did we get here? we start the show with taeju's absolution before being thrown waist deep into the quagmire: murders preluding taeju's arrival and a suspect being beaten into confession in front of his eyes. and in that first episode, he's helpless. and you are too. the scarecrow is an autopsy, not just of serial murder, but of the people who were affected by it, who mourned it, aided it, abetted it, neglected it.
been thinking about a star wars fullmetal alchemist au where state alchemist anakin skywalker, a year after losing his mother, commits human transmutation at the start of the war.
he loses only his hand and not more because the massacre he committed there helped pay some of the price
he and obi-wan are both state alchemists and generals in the war. they keep their reputations as the hero with no fear and negotiator, respectively
obi-wan once entertained the idea of human transmutation after qui-gon’s death, but ultimately didn’t go through with it. he and anakin have a conversation about whether they would commit human transmutation if the other died. obi-wan doesn’t know that anakin has already done so.
the sith are functionally the homunculi, with palpatine being a mix of bradley and father – eventually he’ll offer anakin the philosopher’s stone once anakin starts worrying about padmé dying in childbirth during rots timeline
during the equivalent of the mustafar fight, anakin is using a philosopher’s stone but it runs out quicker than expected and backfires on him. he still ends up losing his limbs
palpatine saves him using the philosopher’s stone made from the dead alchemists he killed and anakin becomes homunculus-adjacent (i.e. the stone is a permanent fixture of him a la bradley or greedling and is the functional equivalent of the vader suit. he keeps his automail so the automail and stone are constantly working against each other.)
that’s all so far! many thoughts about the overlap in themes between these two pieces of media
girl whatever
bonus:
i’m living for the custah renaissance finally people are seeing the vision
the way cha siyoung is always saying 우리 taejoo while simultaneously ragebaiting him and ruining taejoo’s life in every way possible there’s something deeply wrong with him
cha siyoung you’re going to hell. gayass behavior and lying to sunyoung about not knowing what happened to gibeom… you’re on thin fucking ice buddy
cha siyoung you motherfucker this is why your hairline is receding
the scarecrow looks simply murder mystery reheated at first glance but then it hits you with some funky camera work and indie psycho-thriller editing choices and the fact that the link between the two protagonists is the one instilling an unholy amount of c-ptsd in the other .... well if you would have lead with that!
just caught up to the most recent scarecrow episode (4). cha siyoung what is wrong with you… loving his and kang taejoo’s interactions though they’re toxic yaoimaxxing
Toxic Homoerotic Kdramas Ranked
You can see the full list with explanations here.
These are ranked by levels of toxicity and romance — this list is not correlated with being the best overall show (that would be Beyond Evil) or closest to canon (probably Chief Kim or The Devil Judge).
Please send more recs my way!
being a coustas fan and an easthies enjoyer is not for the weak
tbh it’s so funny to me that episode 5 of mouse is the source of most ko muchi angst edits but the first special ep (which takes place at the same time) is the source of most jung bareum aurafarming edits. duality of man
pains me that there are only like 30 coustas fics on ao3. need more fics exploring the parallels between coustas and qifrey, coustas and coco, coustas and jujy, his interactions with tartah and the brimhats… his guilt and grief over dagda… his relationship with the intrusion of the silverwood and sense of self… more coustas character studies please i feel as though i am a lone wanderer in a desert of coustaslessness
