reading through some old posts on here wanted to respond to one that suggests "ships are flexible". i would say ships are the exact opposite! they're irrational and personal and passionate and not even based on the real person necessarily so much as what they represent in terms of your own identity, ideas or feelings you want to explore or find pleasant to think about. in such difficult times i think anything that brings someone joy is great. and obviously not everyone will like the same thing.

Okay I have one, curious as to people’s thoughts. As far as I know the allegations about Sharon have been deleted and the account is private, and I think she’s talked about it but not made a statement (not 100% on this though). I wonder if this is enough to not necessarily bring her back immediately but to consider if they’re untrue? It only came to mind because of Soju, where it’s pretty much undeniable since it’s been going on for so long and a good few people have come forward. I realise this is a sensitive topic so I hope I’m not being disrespectful, just curious is all.

Hi anon! Discussions about Sharon have been happening every so often since she was banned, and I expect those discussions will continue to happen in the future (which is what this blog is for!) but more likely than not a decision will not be made anytime soon. If anyone has an opinion on this, feel free to weigh in!

Hi, same anon as before. I guess my main question was just on canceling as a whole. Like I’ve recently seen that some queens are performing and going on trips, which is obviously wrong during a pandemic. However, there have been anons saying to ‘cancel’ them immediately. I guess I’m just wondering whether doing this automatically makes these queens completely horrible people, and does it make us horrible people for still liking/supporting them? I realize that’s a lot, and probably just depends on your personal philosophy

I agree Anon. If you aren't entertained, find another source of entertainment. Don't put Drag Queens on pedestals. (They're the misfits of society, this might not be the general opinion but it is mine.) Sometimes it is better to laugh with the dark in the world than be constantly reminded of it. As long as we still form rational opinions about the stuff they're joking about in our daily lives. Cancel culture is toxic (when people get canceled for leaving a fart in the wrong place, not serious issues). But do draw that line for yourself and let other people enjoy their niche of entertainment.

You are not obligated to follow/write/read/see things of people that rub you the wrong way. Be your own guardian.

I've seen so many anons on people's blogs saying that queens should be cancelled for being ignorant, or for jokes that are clearly jokes but maybe don't land as such, and I was wondering where anyone here thinks the line should be drawn? I just don't think we can expect every single queen to be completely perfect and say everything right every time. I understand 'cancelling' people for severe stuff, but do you think we hold these people to too-high standards?

This is a good question anon! It's very possible that it's one person making the rounds to stir up drama, but it is something to think about.

For the record: a queen/artist will not be banned from AQ for their behavior unless there is significant, serious, uncontested allegations against them, (with the precedent being those allegations having a possibility of legal action, (even if it's small or the statute of limitations has passed)) so you can get an idea of what might constitute a ban.

Any options on this?

im gonna ask ahead of time bc im pretty sure i know the answer but sharon is referenced in my fic a couple times, shes not In It, not tagging her, that okay?

This seems like a gray area, so I guess we can see if anyone else wants to weigh in.

Although personally, I would ask you why you’re referencing her if she’s not in it. I’m not trying to be combative here, but what do you as an author gain by using her in this way except potentially pissing people off? Surely whatever you need to accomplish can be done with either just saying “my ex” or even using another name?

I also hope people are respectful of Mik and understand that this is just a TV show, because after the last season and a lot of identity police and langauge police I have seen from blogs here, I don’t know how people will react if they (Mik) are not the exact representation they want. Same with the Latina queens, and with Black queens, everyone really.

these are definitely topics that will come up in the next season, but hopefully everyone will be respectful either way. thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

Sending up a prayer that everyone, writer or reader or neither, is respectful, accommodating and enjoys season 13. I joined tumblr in Season 12 and it was constant discourse about the racialized queens from day one and made me so uncomfortable (I’m Mexican) it was like saying anything against a queen was being racist towards them and just walls of posts like that all the time and made me really scared to be branded a racist.

I just read something posted on aq that is almost a word-for-word replica of another fic. Same ship, same dialogue, same phrases used. I understand being inspired but without giving credit, claiming it as their own and getting feedback on it is a massive slap in the face to the original author and as a reader, it’s just disappointing. I don’t know how they didn’t think people would notice because the original fic is really popular

The sharon stuff isn’t necessarily proven though. It’s not quite the same as sherry bc there was proof there but it’s a lot more nuanced with sharon and we can’t be sure yet

the difference is sherry pie was disqualified mid season and the accusations came out before the show had even aired. Sharon had a whole season (and won) years ago. It’s not about idolising Sharon and what she was accused of. I also don’t think this is the place that needs to set examples of right/wrong for the young fans, the internet is an open forum and in my opinion, aq is directed at a much older audience. The last thing I want is for people to feel unsafe but I understand the want for freedom in creative writing

tbh i feel like there's no difference between sharon and sherry pie, the only one is that the second one got disqualified. but there's proof of what both have done and i dont see anyone writing ab sherry in spite of it.

also, even if here on aq y'all keep with the no sharon rule whoever wants to read/write ab her can go to other platforms, its just a matter of respecting people's triggers in this page since here people cant filter what they see, like on ao3 you can exclude fics with said characters when looking for a fic, here on tumblr there's no way.

For the anon talking about underappreciated authors, I totally get it. I think I’d be considered a maybe medium-popular author, and it can be so disheartening to see some more popular ones always share each other’s stuff and not yours. I’m sorry you haven’t gotten much feedback/interaction when you’ve reached out, but discord could be helpful, and maybe trying to reach out again and build friendship if you feel comfortable.

Idk, Im kinda of the opinion that consuming any kind of media is a choice, right? So if U don’t want to read about Sharon U literally don’t have to? I dont mean any disrespect but especially since Ive seen people saying how sketchy the evidence and accusations are maybe Ive eased up a bit but Ur under no obligation to read anything, I never read fics with queens Im not interested in
