What a fucking weekend this has been.
okay but making mary gay in the show is SUCH a choice I’m so impressed
she’s the serpent. she’s temptation, the cause of the fall, of eve sinning. in the magisterium’s—the church’s—view, she symbolizes evil, the corruption of innocence.
but the point is that they’re wrong.
the point is that the fall was a good thing, and it is her telling her story to these children that heals the entire world. and so having a gay woman and her experience of love be the catalyst for that, maligned as she is by the people in power, just…
AAAAAAAA
if i may also add this scene between balthamos and father gomez, and the line "you who judge, you're just afraid" which is honestly a summary of the magisterium across all three seasons. they fear what they do not understand, and their misconception of dust as sin led to every inhumane thing they ever did in the name of the authority, when all along dust just represented all the different, worthy, forms of love
Glass Onion did many, many things well. But a few of my favorites are:
Gave Helen the LITERAL POWER of the dumb white man's idea of a good idea to BLOW HIS SHIT UP.
Gave Whiskey a moment to deepen her character beyond "dumb men's right bimbo." Do I agree with the way she's doing things? No. Do I respect that she gets the chance to show she is aware of what she's doing? Yes.
Gave Benoit a live-in partner who straight people don't clock at all. Bitch. The butler is not calling Mister Blanc's famous friends to express worry over his bath time. That's the job of a husband (colloquial).
Benoit solving Gillian Flynn's mystery because it's CLEVER but needing help with the ACTUAL mystery because IT'S DUMB. And not because he's TOO SMART but because he's bad at DUMB PUZZLES.
Everyone only willing to throw Miles under the bus after Helen literally blew up any chance he had of saving their asses. Did they learn anything? Fuck no. It's a very clear lesson on understanding who to trust. As Helen puts it: "You'll lie for a lie, but you won't lie for the truth?" They're not lying for the truth at the end. They're lying for the lie that they're not very much like Miles.
I have seen some people noting the Mona Lisa burned like canvas, and I've seen some people noting the Mona Lisa burned like wood, and what's important to remember is that everything you need to know about Miles is that he's got the fucking audacity of the insulated fuckboy to think he's being clever having someone build an un-failesafe button so the Mona Lisa could be safe.
"It's so dumb, it's brilliant!" / "No, it's just dumb!"
"You'd lie for the lie, but you wouldn't lie for the truth?" -- Yeah, I mentioned it already, but my GOD. WHAT A POINT.
"Your name will forever be remembered in the same breath as the Mona Lisa." -- STAB HIM AGAIN.
Good lord it’s over – I am destroyed so here are some more text post + mygifs (to take away the pain) + one at the end that just made me cackle.
final thoughts, this show is underrated, Marisa arrhhh ruth wilson still has me in a choke hold, i loved it with my whole heart.

Obsessed with the fact that serena williams sat there listening to the greatest detective alive and the founder of a tech company who’s just been embroiled in a public trial solving a murder case and she went back to reading her science fiction book.. queen of minding her own business
exactly!!!
His Dark Materials is a franchise that tackles so many branches of physics and even creates a universe where the main course of study is experimental theology which is all about identifying and explaining dark matter while also adding dimensions to string theory, the multiverse theory, and the very concept of the human soul. At the same time, it aggressively calls out the problem with the state being controlled by the church, how people are condemned for being different and religious fearmongering stops the chance at growth both on an individual and a societal scale. It’s a franchise where the heroes of the story are two children who aren’t allowed to know the prophecy they’re a part of, who save the world unwittingly simply by doing what they believe to be right. Meanwhile, the person who thought he was the hero all along, the person who rallied an army from multiple universes to FIGHT. GOD. HIMSELF. is ultimately consumed by his own ego and forced to take a back seat when he realises he’s just one tiny piece of a much larger story that’s true heart is his own daugher. The child he abandoned, the child he didn’t know or care to know how to look after. It’s a franchise about finding love even when your biological family abandon you, it’s about looking evil in the eye and seeing your own mother, it’s about good and evil not being black and white but instead a complex and cruel mixture of both. It’s about the two worst people you know banding together at the last second to save their daughter with their final breaths. It’s about exploration and learning how to grow through experience, it’s about kindness being shared across the multiverse, exchanging stories with strangers and saving the whole world by doing something perfectly ordinary and receiving no reward.
Oh, and it’s also a franchise rich with fantasy, with giant talking polar bears, witches and ghosts, angels and daemons, and a mammal-like species from another world that travels exclusively on roller skates.
And it fucking. rocks.
“I just grew up on my own, really; I don’t remember anyone ever holding me or cuddling me, it was just me and Pan as far back as I can go…” “And when we do find each other again, we’ll cling together so tight that nothing and no one’ll ever tear us apart.”
— The Amber Spyglass; Chapter 14, Chapter 37
rb to have a super gay 2023
the fact that mary played the serpent and all she did was tell will and lyra a single story... that's all it is. that's how important every little thing matters in the universe. every experience, everything makes you change, makes you grow, and everything you do will touch everything else around you, forever. and you will go on experiencing forever and ever no matter how many changes you go through or contribute to, even death is a beginning. "tell them stories". what a beautiful message :')
