So this is what I have been spending so much time doing. I take so much joy from this little tropical paradise but properly maintaining it is like a part time job. I am in the process of creating a blog post on the maintenance routine required for my fishtanks. #homeaquarium #aquascape

A little more of the collection. My favourite piece is of course the pink branch of coral. I however suspect it has been dyed. As I said last post these items are bought second hand. It would be awesome to give this pieces a new life in an aquarium. However there are a few things to keep in mind especially when placing petrified coral in an aquarium. Corals contain minerals that can alter the condition of water in your freshwater aquarium posing a threat to your fishes. As mentioned before some corals are dyed to the retain color and any leaching of these dyes could be potentially toxic for fish. The general rule of thumb for aquarium decorating is if in doubt leave it out. However most of these harmful effects can be eliminated with a lacquer of aquarium safe sealant which can be bought from hardware store. #homeaquarium #aquascape

There is an antique store in South King st that has a huge box of shells and some dried coral, that I rummage through weekly (probably once someone's collection). Since starting my tank I have visited many Sydney aquarium stores. While I keep freshwater fish only, I always take the chance to admire the coral section. Inspired by coral frags I have sculpted these soon to be rings. When worn together they will look like a little coral reef right on my hand. #coralreef #aquariumlife
