Luca was making a lot of great progress in training, so when they mentioned they had a volleyball game coming up, Aquata had to see them in action.

Just seeing Luca come out in their jersey and take their place on the court was thrilling, and Aquata felt a sense of pride that reminded her of when she used to watch her swimmers in action. It turned out this was actually a pretty similar high.

"LET'S GOOOO!" Aquata yelled as the ball began flying through the air. She was much louder than anyone around her, but she didn't really notice. "Get 'em! Take no prisoners!"

Okay, maybe someday (that was a whole other existential crisis) but she wasn't doing all this. It was so much freaking work. And, by the way, this was just the bridal shower!

It didn't help that Alana wouldn't answer any of Aquata's (many) texts about what kind of flowers she wanted for the decor. How was Aquata supposed to know?

So she was already pre-annoyed when they arrived for the final details meeting with the decorator. "Hey," Aquata said when she saw her sister. "Busy week?"

James grinned tilting his head back and forth, Aquata had saved him. He had rushed in when he should have taken another step back. But he had learned and well finding out some fae secrets was always good for him.

"Trust me you do more than enough keeping me sane and grounded. I think they should pay you just for that alone." James didn't think Aquata wanted to actually be an agent and honestly he wasn't sure if he wanted her to be one either. He didn't know how people dated agents. They were tougher then him.

There were more questions she could ask. There were more spirals she could go down. But right now, it was so much easier to fall into the same flirty banter she and James always ended up at.

Besides, she wasn't really worried about him. Only a little.

"But if you need me to swoop in and save the day, send out a signal, alright?" she added.

Herc had not played tennis in years. Not since high-school PE lessons had forced him to, and he had been pretty tentative about the whole thing back then. So while Q was making herself at home on the court, Herc was barely introducing himself - although he should still have seen that move coming from Q.

With quick reflexes, he jerked to the side and brought his racket up, just in time to make contact with the ball - but of course not enough to actually direct it back with any skill. Instead it pinged straight off at an angle and immediately was out.

"So much for going easy on me to start, right?" Herc laughed, recovering his balance and seeing the ball trickle over towards the fence.

"You're not going to get any better if I go easy on you," Aquata smirked. It was said in good humor, but Aquata was by no means kidding. Herc definitely had to shape up. She picked up another ball. "Try again!" She smashed another serve down the center line.

"Oh, just a pound!" Destiny said. Her fingers ran across the top of the table until they touched the edge of the poster. She tapped it. Her mother had helped her make it.

It started with an animated conversation about Jack Draper's chances in the break room. Then it turned into, "let's reserve a court, it's been so long since any of us have played." And now it had become something else entirely, not that Herc knew that. Oops. Aquata would mention it to him eventually.

"Think fast!" Aquata announced, tossing the ball high in the air and slamming it toward Herc.

"Probably won't. I'm sure I'm going to be fine." James wasn't doing this to die, if he thought he would then he wouldn't be a very good agent. He planned on living. he planned on saving some people and kicking some ass.

"I charged into the elfhame to save you. I think I can handle some more scary people."

Aquata smiled. That was true. She'd seen James in action, and she knew he was capable of handling himself. But she was still going to worry.

"Okay, but don't forget the part where I saved you too," Aquata said, amusement creeping into her tone. "You know, I might make a pretty good secret agent, too."

Not that she really wanted that life. There were other ways to help Magicks— and Aquata imagined they probably weren't recruiting their agents' girlfriends, anyway. But she liked to think she could hold her own.

It was a bit vague - and kinda obvious. Most people probably hoped their politicians stayed timely and listened to others. But maybe that's just what politics boiled down to. Maybe people made politics more complicated than it needed to be. Maybe if people focused on the roots of good politics, there wouldn't be as many problems.

"Yeah, I think when you put it like that, it makes politics feel more approachable," said Binna. She smiled, liking this optimistic take. "Well, I think that's all my questions! Unless you have any messages you want to give to everyone watching!"

Just as Aquata started to think of something wise to say, the dog woke up and leapt to his feet to shake off the sleep. Then he barreled toward the camera.

"I agree. People never talk about the successes. Or, they talk less about them. It becomes more difficult to notice, y'know, like-- if the streets are well-paved, then no one compliments the roads, but if there are potholes, everyone's gonna complain," mentioned Binna.

That kind of psychology made politics basically a thankless job. But Binna still felt drawn to it. Or... at least activism and making things better.

"What about now? Are you involved in anything now or-- what is something you hope the new Board does?"

"I've just been going to the monthly meetings, mostly listening. I'm keeping an eye out for petitions, too, since that's a big way people can get involved when they're not on Board," Aquata explained. The dogs had settled now, and she idly continued to pet them. "Something I hope the new Board does... I guess I hope they just continue to respond to the times, listen to the people. I know that's vague. But I did everything on Board I set out to do, so now it's up to them."

Destiny heard the skepticism. She may not see expressions easily, but she was good at picking up the tone of people's voices. Especially when she knew them decently well. And, even though she and Aquata had never really been close, Destiny had been, once upon a time, with Alana.

Aquata also had a very expressive voice. Which wasn't a bad thing at all. In fact, Destiny preferred it to those who might try to conceal their true intentions.

She giggled a little. "I'll consider it a challenge! It will be fun. After all, I made cake out of tomato soup and that turned out pretty good. You'll be back next weekend, right? Or I could bring it by the house?" After all, it was just down the street in the Woods.

Aquata hadn't tried the tomato soup cake, but she was definitely skeptical about that one too. "Oh, don't go to the trouble- I'll swing by," Aquata said quickly. "You'll be here every weekend?"

Yup, this definitely was not hypothetical anymore.

Binna was still nervous. Would she even be allowed? Would she count? That was something she thought about constantly -- her 25%, a failing grade by America's schooling system standards, even if her brain she knew that was a dumb way to look at magic. She definitely counted! She could talk to animals and feel what they felt!

And yet, there was always that nagging doubt that Binna didn't belong. She hadn't lived a true magick life and so she hadn't...earned it.

"Right! Uh-- who is the organizer, by the way? Or is that just like, on the town hall website?"

"Isabela Madrigal, but yeah, you can find more info on the website," Aquata said. At least, Aquata was pretty sure she was still running it. Admittedly, Aquata was more tuned-in to the merpeople support group. "Anyway, that's just one example. Someone noticed the town needed something and they took action, and the Board facilitated it. The system doesn't always work that smoothly, but I think it's important for people to know that it can."

"Peaches and gingerbread..." It wasn't a combination Aquata had ever heard before. Honestly, she was a little skeptical. But Aquata was willing to be proven wrong. Especially if it involved delicious desserts. "Sure, uh, you should go for it. See how it goes."

Binna swallowed back her disappointment. She couldn't show that on camera because, yeah, the camera was still rolling. Sure, she could edit out any weird moment but she didn't want Q to notice either--

Why not though? Why are you still in the closet in a magick-friendly town? Would it really be a big deal if someone found out?

To Appa, it would be.

But Appa wasn't here.

"Ah, right! Yeah, that makes sense. But-- it's not like a list of people who go to that support group is published anywhere, right?" said Binna. "Like, and there's no recordings so... a person could go to the group and maybe only come out to a small group of people. Right? Is that possible?"

Or hey- maybe it was. Maybe Binna just wanted this information for her viewers. Aquata knew what it was like to have to hide your magic for whatever reason, so she wasn't going to try to push Binna to say something she clearly didn't want to say.

"Uh- I think so, yeah. I think if anyone's concerned about that, it's probably best to double check with the organizer of the group. But even just if someone would be worried about being seen going to and from the group— there are all kinds of reasons to be in town hall. I'd definitely cover for them, and I'm sure others would, too."
