“Well, it is a very useful job to have if you are constantly having to work with plants.”

Laven on the other hand had merely been raised with such a profession, and given their love for plants and flora in general, they didn’t hate their job anyway. It was peaceful to work alone– Excluding when they used their knowledge of plants to assist others being a ‘doctor’ of sorts. Granted, they weren’t a professional in said area, but one nonetheless.

“My name is Laven Aster…” They answered. “Do you require something from me, Misty?”

“I guess, she works with grass pokémon and perfumes so I’m sure it comes in handy!!” 

Kasumi smiled, thinking about her friend. Erika was a lovely woman who seemed to have many hobbies. Eyes glanced around the garden, perhaps if they were selling anything she could get something small to perk up her gym. Sure, it was colorful as it is but maybe adding some lively things could make it seem less suspicious. Giovanni would be proud of that. 

“Ya sellin’ any of ‘em? I’m lookin’ to buy some to decorate with.”

She grins, watching them work with the flowers. Kasumi’s always wanted to garden, but never really found the time, too. She’s also probably too rough to work with something that needs such tender care for. For now she’d stick to water Pokémon and the team.

Kasumi was dusting off a shelf in the lobby of her gym. She couldn’t remember the last time she cleaned the damn thing, which probably was a good sign to clean it, never knew when inspectors from the league may come around. That was until she heard the little bells signaling someone opened the door. Great she huffed, approaching the blonde. 

“Can’t you read kid? Gyms closed, says so on the sign on the door.”

He nods at Misty’s repetition of his title. Subway boss, that would be him. “It is comfortable. Kinda hot outside in this weather, though.” Curse the heat and the lack of appropriate uniforms. Emmet gestures vaguely. “I got them from whoever made them for me. Custom uniform or whatever you call it.”

Hm, it was a custom uniform. Then it wouldn’t be so easy to get one. Well, there was always the normal method she used to steal Pokémon, by putting them in her shoulder bag. “Maybe one day y’ can see me wearin’ one!” She said, proudly. “So subway boss, y’ got any pokémon? I’ve ne’er really been t’ Unova.”

The red head turns around, only to meet with a taller brunet with a smirk on his face. A simple tch escapes her lips, before asking a question she demands answer to.

     In contrary to Kasumi, Sabrina remained calm. This was still a recent event so it wouldn’t be all to difficult to fix, but that didn’t mean they should be too lax. She signaled for Kasumi to follow her as she walked out of her office. “Do you know where is he now?” She questioned, easily coming up with a plan. They would “take care” of the trainer. Accidents did happen, and cities were troublesome things, especially with dark alleys and their dangers. “And it is the Pokemon Center in Cerulean?”

“N-no... I don’t...” She said, shaking her head and drying her eye. Kasumi was getting very over worked about this. It was nerve racking to have a secret such as this almost be exposed. “I would assume... B-but who knows where he is now...” She said, cracking her knuckles with her fingers, a bad habit she had, but it calmed her down. “N-no means just sitting around here though, r-right... Do we go look for him?”

 ▐ ❀✿▐ —;   Erika seemed pleased with the fact that Misty didn’t mind if she were to watch her during swimming competitions. She was truly curious to the watch the redhead doing something she did best. Hearing the stories of how Misty got into swimming through her mother reminded the ravenette much of her own mother – oh, how that woman did love flowers as much as Erika did. It is kind of amazing how much a child could develop a love for something based off of another influence.

“Oh —- !“ It was almost like the botanist had forgotten they were at a restaurant for a moment, averting her attention to the laminated sheets before them, starting flipping through the pages a bit. Head tilted towards one side, the ravenette bore a slightly embarrassed look upon her features. A palm was cutely pressed to her cheek as her eyes glanced back over towards the water specialist. “The truth is, I have actually never been here before. I am not even aware of most of these items on the menu.” That was probably typical for somebody like Erika. A wealthy girl who was always used to more traditional Kantonese-Japanese foods and higher end restaurants. The menu might as well be a foreign language to her. But she did always find these little family restaurants cute, so that was why she suggested they eat there.

It would be nice for Erika to see one of her skills. The red had been to the Celadon’s gym while Erika was gardening or otherwise working with her plants. It was spectacular, even though plants could be quite boring. Kasumi definitely couldn’t raise a plant for more than a day. In fact, Erika gave her a bouquet for her birthday once and it died within the hour. Apparently plants and flowers do not settle with chlorinated water. Oops? 

“Ah, I see.” She says, flipping the pages, heart still set on the burger. Her mouth was practically watering. The redhead had been thinking of eating one all throughout the meeting. They were quite tedious, and her mind wandered often. The only thing that was bothering her was the fact that Erika was acting a little, what was a nice way to put it, better than. Good for you princess and your money and your high standards, she thought to herself. Best keep it internal though, it wasn’t something to get so worked up over. “I’m sure they got great burgers. Got this one burger joint back in Cerulean and lemme tell ya, it’s t’ die for.” She smiled, getting hungry just thinking about it. “I’ll take y’ there one day.”

Even in the dark, the red of her hair was bright to her eyes. She closed them once more, keeping her left hand to her forehead, shielding her from the sight. The other darted for the glass that was held out towards her. “No pills.” She’d said, unsurprised by the way her voice sounded far more husky than she’d liked.

Despite the grip she’d kept on the cup, it wasn’t her hand that kept it still to her lips, rather her power. Whatever had occurred had felt as though it had been some time ago. Her body, as much as she disliked to admit any weakness, held far less grit than her mind ever will. For now, she would lean on one until the other could meet standard.

Kasumi caught the idea that the room was too bright for her. She reached for the dimmer on the wall, lowering it to a setting just above being off completely. “Is this better?” She asked, placing her pills on the dresser next to her. That way it could be in her reach if she needed them and the redhead wasn’t in the room. Though that probably wouldn’t happen. She wouldn’t be leaving any time soon, unless it was requested of her. Though as soon as the psychic telepahtically ordered something of her, she responded right away, 

                                     “On the team or on you...”

Oh please, she internally begged, let it be on the team I can’t bare to tell her this now. She kept a calm face, making sure the other was still alright. What she had to do was something no one else may have thought of, but she was the first to offer herself. Anything for Sabrina, anything at all. It was words that Kasumi lived by and always would. She was far more important than the redhead would ever be and she knew that.

                                       And there it was, the very answer she so desired.

All of her–their, she silently corrects–planning had worked out to this very moment, toward luring another from the self-proclaimed “good” gym leaders to their side. With Kasumi in their clutches, they would have the upper hand and, soon, a terrific little soldier on their side. She could already assess how high within their ranks she would become, just by personality alone. The recklessness of traveling into the lion’s den with no backup, no plans other than to place her best foot forwards.

Kasumi was a Leader, but she doubted she’d ever be a leader. 

Gently pulling a hand away from her chin, she let it rest on her lap, along with the other, letting them intertwine as she took in this very moment. The act had allowed the small but almost pleased curl at the corner of her lip to be shown.     

“You are correct.” She said easily enough, still never moving from her throne. There was no point in hiding that very fact at this point, not with the way Kasumi gave her true intentions, ever emotional as it were, and it was satisfying to see her do so, to be so proud about wanting to join, regardless of everything she’s already heard about them (no matter how purposely askew they’d been once they reached her ears).

She straightened her posture, folding her legs, not crossing them, in a way she had seen others do: a sign of power and poise. “I am a member of Team Rocket: a commander.” 

“Regardless, you haven’t told me why I should let you become one of us. ‘Because I want to’ is not a good enough answer.” 

Wine red eyes flickered over the other’s form intently, awaiting a proper request. It had been a struggle to get the girl to even say their team’s name; blurting out her intentions had been a difficult feat without even mentioning Team Rocket–just how were they to rely someone like that? 

                Show me your grit, your determination, to become one of us Ka-su-mi.

Why did she want to become a rocket? That was actually a very good question. She never really thought why aside from mere curiosity. They would be someone for her to turn to when she had no one else. She would feel like she would really have almost a family, though much different from her own when her mother was still alive. But she couldn’t answer this question so childish. Kasumi had to reach deep down into herself, into her heart and soul, to find the perfect answer for the Saffron master’s question. 

                                      The answer that Sabrina would want to hear. 

“I want to become a part of T-team Rocket b-because... because...” oh great, she thought to herself, stutter like an idiot and then see why they all think of you as a little kid. The red head took swallowed a hard gulp, This was harder than she expected. Just breathe and answer her question this shouldn’t be that difficult. You’re strong and you know what you want. 

With a deep breath, she spoke again, “Because I want to work hard.” Kasumi stated, taking her hand and gripping her shirt from where her heart was, “I want to show that I’m capable of many things. That I’m not just a child! I am worthy of being feared!” She exclaimed, though her body actions hardly showed it. Her knees were shaking and if she were even to lock eyes with the female before her she would probably plummet. 

                                             Still, her words were true. 

                                      This is exactly what she wanted. 

Kasumi looked up to her eventually, no longer shaking and ready to face an answer. Rejection probably. It was worth the shot, however, she didn’t back down this time. It was showing herself that she could be confident. That perhaps even not making it could lead to better things internally for herself. No longer would she be a coward. She would be confident, in herself and her actions. And if that’s all she could get out of this, well, it was more than enough for the young redhead. 

                              Oh but I do hope that she says I can be a rocket.

I sold my soul to bring you back to life after your untimely death and I only have a month left with you so  I’m trying to make it count.

She woke with a start; the blanket pooled in her lap as she placed a hand on her head, trying to regain her bearings. The memory of the pain, the sheer realism that came with dying felt all to surreal. Never had she had a dream like that before, even with the nightmares

she’d have over the years and the sleepless night where she’d catch the strangest of things.

Her brow furrowed deeply as she tried to make sense of it, of everything, but the longer she thought about it, the more the memories became hazy. There was fire, an explosion. Plenty of yelling, screaming. Alarms were blaring as chaos

rang about. All of this came to mind, but there were no details. She couldn’t discover it’s start nor it’s location, and, even though she just woke up, it felt as though she were trying to grasp straws. 

It was frustrating

The red head hoped this would work, she told the other members to bring her back. When they said it wouldn’t be easy and that it came with a great work. They couldn’t do it for nothing. So Kasumi offered all she had, her life. If Sabrina were to wake up from this death, she had a month until they would kill her. It would be all worth it. Sabrina was far more important to the team than Kasumi ever was or would be. When she saw her stir, her heart nearly started beating rapidly. She was waking up, and the red head couldn’t help but smile. 

“Thank god you’re okay...” 

Kasumi said, grasping a glass of water and a tub of pills. “Does your head hurt? I have your medicine.” She said, debating whether or not she should tell her what happened. Probably not now, she thought, she has enough of a headache. “I hope you don’t mind my being here, I just was worried about you...” As she usually was in situations similar. It was not different.

   ▐ ❀✿▐ — ;   Erika was optimistic, but even she was aware that many of the other gym leaders found the meetings to be a bore, even though she loved to listen to everybody talk about what was on their minds. It made her feel like the whole league actually got to see and talk to each other when they gathered, since it was hard to see them during their working days, after all. Kanto was supposed to be like a big family after all, right? Suppose that made Johto like their distant cousins! She wasn’t like some sort of highschool teacher who automatically assumed that everything that went on during lectures was interesting — she knew very well that there were a lot of topics to cover that were boring, but unfortunately necessary. She felt like it was a nice gesture to not only hang out with the Cerulean leader afterward, but she also planned on paying for the both of them. 

The botanist’s arms were rested in front of her, hand folded at the skirt of her kimono, and a soft smile brightened her features. “You know, I do not think I have ever seen you at a swimming tournament,” she noted, having the smile on her face faltered just a bit out of guilt. “Would you mind if I came to watch you? I bet you are very elegant!” Truthfully, Erika didn’t believe Misty when she insisted that it was the only thing on her mind, but it would be rude and unnecessary to pry any further. If something was truly wrong and she was comfortable enough, she would like to think that Misty would tell her.      —— Right?

Upon entering the restaurant, a waiter who immediately recognized Celadon’s princess gave the two women a bright smile and showed them to their seats, a small booth that fit the two of them perfectly. He’d placed laminated menus before the both of them as well as glasses of water, and reassured that he would return in just a few minutes. For a family restaurant, the whole place was rather quiet, aside from the soft voices of other small talk of adult and very well behaved children in the distance.

Kasumi flipped the pages of the menu upon sitting. She really disliked when people recognized her and gave her special treatment, but at least their wasn’t a long line of people waiting. Though she was hungry it would have only been fair to wait like the rest of the people. Erika was humble, too, though as it seemed. So it probably would have just been an act of no it’s fine we’ll wait from the both of them. She looked towards any specials they had going on. A hamburger and fries seemed really good right now, but the onion rings caught her attention, too. Can’t hurt to have both could it? She needed food to keep her energy after all. Besides, after sitting through that meeting she deserved a small treat. Maybe a milkshake to go with it, too, would be quite nice. 

“Ah sure you can come. It’s nothin’ really special ‘ough,” She shrugged, looking up toward the other. “I only really do ‘em so I can keep up shape and get more practice in. Plus it’s been a hobby of mine since I was little. My momma would let me come to the gym and I would swim while she trained.” She said with a bit of a frown, since she really missed her mother a lot. But she didn’t wanna make it seem like she was uncomfortable. “I feel like I get closer to my Pokémon if I understand their field of element. They swim around for majority of the day, so I do, too. Plus it’s fun to swim around with ‘em!” 

The red head said with a smile, still looking through her menu. “So what’re you thinkin’ ‘bout gettin’? I’m in the mood for a burger o’ some sort.” Still indecisive about what to get on the side. Maybe a waiter would bring food to another table and she could see what they got. “Have y’ever been here before? Got any recommendations on what to get?” Small talk was easy. Distracted the other from prying into her any more. Especially since Kasumi didn’t want to accidently leak out any information on the team that she shouldn’t.
