It was a mistake, it turns out.

π β Β β β Β β βββββββββββΒ growing up there was hardly a time that trinity was alone. in a home that was constantly full of family, and friends they never knew what a quiet night was. theyβd always find strangers in the rooms of their parents home, and had put on plenty of shows for the guests. their father sat happily behind the piano while their mother signaled key points of the choreography trinity made sure not to miss. even rehearsals for auditions all throughout high school were done at their fatherβs side who was sure to issue out as many reassurances as he did criticisms ( all constructive, of course ). trinity reveled in the company of others and bathed in the compliments they were given, no matter how insincere.
it shouldnβt have come as a surprise that the ostracization that came with their nyu admittance wasnβt something they were prepared for. trinity had quickly gone from their peers wanting to be their friend for the wrong reasons, to no one wanting anything to do with them for the exact same ones. every role they landed was questioned, and that insatiable ache that demanded to know why they werenβt good enough planted root in the depths of their heart. moments to themselves became a dangerous indulgence. any down time they had was spent trying to pinpoint what it was about them that made them so unlikable. trinity never had to question themselves when they were with izzie.Β
izzie was the first friend theyβd made while at college, and things were always easy with them. having no prior knowledge of who trinity was, or more importantly who their dad is, izzie had seen them for themselves first and their dreams second. it was the first time trinity had ever formed a connection like that. more than just having someone recognize their efforts, trinity had found someone they were just as supportive of. usually so self obsessed, they had no issue with giving their spotlight to her, and listening to every obscure fish fact or tribulations of their latest heartache. wth izzie, trinity found that they wanted more than just a good friend: they wanted to learn how to be one too.Β having izzie occupy a space in their home again felt just as it was meant to.
β okay calm down d.a.r.e, itβs one shot. β trinity teased as they pulled themselves into a seated position on the otherβs mattress.Β β itβs one shot, and your things will still be here after we take our celebratory shot. β they motioned towards their luggage as if what they were saying was obvious. the sight of familiar items already poking out as if to get a look at their new surroundings bringing a bright smile to their face.Β β dealing with ? you say that like they arenβt the most pleasant human being on the planet. i resent that verbage. besidesβ¦ββ β trinity started, a mischievous grin quick to take place.Β β i keep snyder plenty busy when he comes to visit, you wonβt ever have to worry about them. emri, however. i have my concerns. β they tsked as they moved over to stand beside her.Β β i mean itβs good heβs intimidated. he should be intimidated. if he ever hurts you iβll take him right by the outdated loro piana polo on his insta and strangle him with it. β they offered sweet smile and batting eyelashes.Β β which reminds me, brown ? in fall ? how groundbreaking. i need your boytoy to do better. β
Β Β Β ( βββ ::Β izzie found a comfort in trinity she had never had before. their dad had left when they were still figuring out who they were themselves ; and the impact his infidelity had left scars deeper in their mother than either of them were capable of admitting. with his piece of the puzzle missing, izzieΒ ββ so much older than their younger brothersΒ ββ had stepped up to try and fill the hole that he had left. acting as second parent didnβt leave a lot of room for that close connection that other siblings had with each other. instead it left a lot to be desired : on izzieβs end, and also on their younger brotherβs ends. home had been lonely. school had been just lonely, with izzie often feeling too shy to step up to the plate and make the lasting friendships that they desired. they were never ostracized from their peers, or targeted, but all too often they were forgottenΒ ββ missing out on opportunities that they wished they had been braver to chase.
Β Β Β college had been different. sharing their space with trinity had curated some of the best years of their life up until that point. every way that izzie faltered, she thought trinity made up for. izzie was nervous, and timid, too afraid of stepping outside of their comfort zone ; trinity, on the other hand, exuded the type of confidence that someone would die for. they commanded the attention of everybody just by walking into the room, and there was no doubt that they would dazzle once all eyes were on them. izzie caught wind of that immediatelyΒ ββ trinity would go on to tell izzie all about theirΒ almost-star father and the long list of accolades and successes that they had to live up too, but all izzie ever saw was their best friend ββ incredible, beautiful, and so talented, all on their own.
Β Β Β it could be argued that spending that time could have made izzie feel as though they were drowned in trinityβs shadow, but the opposite was true. they found that being around their friend made her feel bolderΒ ββ like some of trinityβs confidence would rub off on them, and ease the anxieties that were running a mile a minute through their head. trinity made them better. theyΒ helped her command her small piece of life in the ways that they were capable.Β the two of them had a lot of good memories together ββ and, izzie hoped, that they had a lifetime of fun ahead of them, too. with nothing more than just a playful sigh, izzie gave in to trinityβs celebratory theatrics, reaching for the bottle that they had used to pour themselves a shot only a few moments before.Β β okay, okay ! but let it be known that this is peer pressure !Β β raising their voice, they shouted to the rest of the ( empty ) apartment.Β β iβm being peer pressured !Β β
Β Β Β she scoffed as trinity turned the question around on her, turning her attention to pour the bottle into the tiny glass that had been left for them.Β β theyβre so weird, trinity ! and not in the good way ! who opens the conversation by telling someone all about the different poisonous mushrooms in new york state that could kill them, and the ugly ways that they do it ?Β β pouting, they turned to look at their friend, reaching their free hand up to push dark hair away from their face with a flat palm.Β β anyway, maybe . . .Β ββ maybe iβll be keeping emri plenty busy when he comes to visit, too.Β β she claimed, though they immediately felt themselves redden at the comment ( trinity had always been far bolder than she had been with comments like that. )Β β i thought he looked very handsome ! andΒ stop picking on him ! not everyone dresses as well as you do.Β βΒ
izzieΒ β emri
emri: you're familiar with telling the truth now??
emri: only to your mom β€οΈ i'd never rat you out to anyone else and that's a promise.
emri: sorry, my reading comprehension skills are a little low so can you repeat that?
emri: does that mean you WANT me to walk around shirtless?
emri: just so that we're clear, y'know?
emri: was that inappropriate?
emri: i thought i was just making an observation.
emri: and you didn't answer my question. are you not able to keep your voice down izzie? you're usually so soft spoken.
izzie: you have to be familiar with the truth to be a good liar...
izzie: i think. i dunno. i don't lie that often.
izzie: i said i just wanted you to be comfortable!!!
izzie: if that's with or without the shirt
izzie: is what i said
izzie: is all of this a roundabout way of you asking if you can come over...?
izzieΒ β emri
mri: oh that's a dirty trick to play on me. you know the sun rises and sets with you for me. someone's not playing fair :/
emri: oh??
emri: do you WANT me to do that izzie?
emri: if i get cold will you find ways to keep me warm?
emri: well, i can be quiet. the question is can you?
emri: it's okay if not, we'll still have my apartment.
izzie: is it?????
izzie: or is it the truth???
izzie: π₯Ίπ₯Ίπ₯Ί you're so quick to throw me under the bus.
izzie: i don't NOT want you to do that
izzie: but i want you to be comfortable
izzie: and whether that is with or without the shirt is meaningless.
izzie: but without the shirt is nice
izzie: sometimes!
izzie: or whatever
izzie: emri!!!!!
izzie: what were you just saying about inappropriate comments?????
izzieΒ β emri
emri: yes it is
emri: how am i being mean? :/ i just want your mom to like me, and you're saying i'm being mean? smh. my feelings are hurt.
emri: i don't know that's not what you meant actually, but i am kinda wishing it was.
emri: so you wouldn't appreciate me walking around shirtless like jacob? i guess i can live with that.
emri: do you really believe me or are you just saying you believe me?
izzie: you're threatening to snitch on me to my mom! just to win her over π₯Ί what about me???
izzie: it wasn't the lack of shirts i was afraid of!!!!!!!!!!
izzie: you COULD do that...
izzie: i mean if you WANTED to
izzie: i don't know if you want to.
izzie: i don't live by myself anymore. i share an apartment with that "weirdo", remember?
izzie: does it matter either way???
izzieΒ β emri
emri: is this one of those half truth moments again?
emri: i don't think i like being lied to :/
emri: then what am i?
emri: i could be. are you into that?
emri: you never told me you like love bites, isabel.
emri: was it the cullens that did it for you?
emri: how many times do i need to tell you you're beautiful before you believe me?
emri: i'll start taking count right now.
izzie: no it's not!
izzie: you're being the mean one, actually!
izzie: emri!!! π³
izzie: you know that isn't what i meant!!!!
izzie: maybe i did i have a twilight phase just like every other teenage girl
izzie: and i thought the werewolves were kinda scary...
izzie: okay! i believe you!
izzie: no counting necessary
izzieΒ β emri
emri: i feel like i'm being gaslit here
emri: can you give me a bent truth good enough to make your mother love me?
emri: i'm just kidding, you weren't being mean. no frowning allowed!
emri: they're a bit of a weirdo aren't they?
emri: i'm going to print out three movie sized posters of me and put them in your room so they'll know that i am also watching. what then?
emri: oh baby i don't think i can put that on the list.
emri: have you seen yourself? those things come naturally.
izzie: it's not that she doesn't love you!
izzie: she's just protective of me, that's all.
izzie: watch who you're talking about! that's my best friend!! π€
izzie: you can do that, but i think it would feel kinda weird.
izzie: like you were always watching me... edward cullen style, or something.
izzie: ..you're not a vampire, are you?? π±
izzie: hey! that's not true π³
izzieΒ β emri
emri: so you'd rather lie to her in my name?
emri: have her hate me?
emri: i thought you liked me :/
emri: you're meaner than i thought you were, it's gonna take me awhile to get over this wound you've inflicted.
emri: all over??
emri: maybe i should come over, and we can give them a show. might as well have something to look at if they're gonna be looking anyway.
emri: i can't believe you think so lowly of me :/
izzie: i told you already, what we were doing wasn't lying!
izzie: just bending the truth.
izzie: i bend the truth for her in a lot of ways.
izzie: i wasn't trying to be mean ππ
izzie: the first thing they did was pick out a photo i could put up on my wall so you knew they were 'always watching'
izzie: put saying stuff like that on the list, please
izzie: π³π³π³
izzieΒ β emri
emri: making fun of you??? i would never :/
emri: i would betray you, for you
emri: i know how important your mom is to you, so it's important to me that she likes me
emri: i would betray you for the greater good!
emri: i'm always good, what are you talking about?
emri: are your friends working to turn you against me :/ and after that lovely gift i got you inspired by them too :/
emri: me? say something inappropriate? i would never
izzie: that's still betraying me!!!
izzie: and she's not happy if i'm unhappy...
izzie: so you should really just be trying harder to make me happy doncha think??
izzie: no! what!
izzie: be careful what you're saying, mr... i know trinity has eyes and ears all over this room...
izzie: π΅βπ«
izzie: yes you would
izzieΒ β emri
emri: i didn't know you could be so bossy izzie.
emri: what else should i stop doing?
emri: i'm making a list
emri: no, of course not. my loyalties lie with you first.
emri: though if it'll get your mom to like i'll tell her anything she wants to know, i'm gonna be honest.
emri: i'm sure i want to, i promise. don't worry so much. have i ever lied to you before?
emri: lying, stubborn, bossy... so many new sides to you i'm seeing tonight.
emri: i'll be good, i promise.
emri: you gonna punish me if i don't though? :/
izzie: making fun of me!
izzie: you can put that on the list π£π§
izzie: you would betray me that easily??? well.
izzie: at least now i know...
izzie: i'm not lying or bossy π
izzie: and YOU are never good, but always up to something...
izzie: and i think if i said yes you would say something that would ruin the point of me telling you all this
izzie: so no!
izzieΒ β emri
emri: so in other words... a lie?
emri: it's okay baby, your secret is safe with me. i can e bought.
emri: my price isn't that high
emri: i don't feel like i have to because your mom asked, i want to.
emri: especially because you asked. have i ever said no to you?
emri: i don't know what you mean, actually.
emri: anyway. that's why i need you there, keep me in check i guess.
emri: though i don't see what the problem with splurging just a little bit is :/ you only turn 17 once.
izzie: nooooooooooooo!!! stop saying that!!!!
izzie: you're not gonna tell everyone i was gonna lie to them, are you?
izzie: you wouldn't do that to me???!!!
izzie: π
izzie: okay, if you're sure you want to. but we can leave whenever you're ready!
izzie: well yeah, but he doesn't NEED all of that stuff. so i will be keeping you in check!
izzie: i can be very stubborn π€¬
izzieΒ β emri
emri: isabel liao, you would lie to your family??
emri: for me ??
emri: i didn't think you could be so bad. you might be a bad influence on me, i may need to rethink somethings.
emri: i thought about it and i think it's sexy. however, i don't think it'll help put me in your mother's good graces so i'm gonna ask you not to lie.
emri: besides, i want to meet your grandma!! and also get your brother a few gifts.
emri: does this mean we're going shopping?
izzie: nooooOOOOOO!!!
izzie: don't call it lying!!!!!!!!
izzie: it's just... not telling the truth??? π₯Ί
izzie: i would like you to come too! but i don't want you to feel like you have to just because my mom asked!!
izzie: only if you promise not to go overboard on the gifts...
izzie: you have a habit of doing that, you know.
I may legally be an adult but donβt be fooled, I have no idea what the hell im doing
izzieΒ β emri
izzie: do you want to come to my brother's 17th birthday party next saturday?
izzie: you don't have to say yes.
izzie: but my mom wanted me to ask you anyway, cause my grandma is flying in from hong kong
izzie: and she's been asking when she can meet you.
izzie: but you don't have to say yes!!!!!
izzie: i can say you're busy!!!!
izzie: even if you're not.

π β Β β β Β β βββββββββββΒ β youβre finally here ! β they exclaimed with delighted laughter before collapsing onto their bare mattress. living with the other during their college years had brought about some of the best memories trinity could ever have. that three bedroom apartment shared by the three of them had been the first place trinity had ever felt truly supported as a person and an artist. there times it all had become too much for their shoulders to bare, and so theyβd search out izzie in the kitchen and cling to them as if that would make it all go away, and it worked almost every time. trinity had spent years trying to convince izzie to move back in with them. with one spare bedroom left, it almost felt like fate to get izzie to agree. all it took was one yes, and trinity was quick to set plans in motion; they cleared out the room to have it repainted with izzieβs preferences, asked about any furniture that needed to be moved in before the big day, and had scheduled the movers themselves for the day of. all to make everything go as smoothly as possible.Β β now that youβre here i think we should take a celebratory shot, and then find a picture of us to frame and put on your wall so emri always remembers that iβm watching. β
Β Β Β ( βββ ::Β izzie had never realized living on their own would be so lonely. for twenty-five of their twenty-six years, izzie had always lived with somebody ; until she was twenty-one, it had been her mother and little brothers, and for four years after that, it had been hero and trinity. in both spaces there had always been something going on, or somebody to talk too. izzie was an introvert, but the people whom they held close to them were important, and she liked having them around her. she liked being able to talk if they wanted too. moving out onto their own had seemed like the logical next step after their masters degree. that had been what they were supposed to do. but they couldnβt stand being in their empty apartment ββ they spent their time at the aquarium, or with their friends, because going to bed in the quiet rooms had made them sad. of course they had jumped at the opportunity to come back to trinity when they had given her the chance ( after reassuring, multiple times, that it really wasnβt a bother if they did. )Β
β i have things to unpack and youβre already thinking about drinking !?Β β resting the box sheβd been carrying on her desk ( and quietly apologizing to the teddy bear inside when they realized they had accidentally crushed his hand underneath it ) izzie looked back towards trinity.Β β and leave emri out of this ! if iβm going to be dealing with yours ββΒ β she pointed towards them, before flopping onto the bed in a fit of giggles, βΒ ββ then you canβt be intimidating emri ! thatβs just not fair ! we both know youβre scarier than me.Β βΒ
