Reflection

I enjoyed the process of branding and working on finding inspiration for ideas. I really like finding colors and styles that fit the mood that I would like to incorporate in my overall design. I am really interested in looking at and picking up on little techniques that brands have placed in their packaging and display items. 

My inspiration, honestly, comes mostly from pinterest with pretty much most of the categories, but especially fashion. I like looking at the color combinations with patterns and how things flow well together and seeing what is working and what isn’t. I like looking at different colors and textures that simple things like a unique notebook has. I am also inspired by things I see randomly on the internet if I see text or images I like I doodled them down from memory later. 

My personal aesthetic would probably be the use of color combinations mainly with pastels. I like using simplicity in my work overall work depending on the project. I don’t necessarily like things looking crowded and busy in my my work (which sometimes does unfortunately happen).

Things usually do not end up how I envision a project looking in my head when it is all done and said. Therefore, techniques I would like to continue to develop would be working on mediums that will execute what I am trying to communicate and work more with different programs so that I can do things with a better understanding of how to accomplish what I would like something to look like.

Journal Reflection. Trevor peters

The disciplines that I enjoyed the most would have to be the branding, mainly so beachside it enable everyone to be creative and open to try new ideas as well as teaches you new ways to use some of the programs. I get my inspiration in the field of Graphic Design from observing and looking at other workings mainly do because i am relatively new to Graphic Design and still learning a lot of the programs and techniques so observing other artist and how they do and use some of the programs enables me to be able to learn and grow from that. In terms of getting my inspiration outside of Graphic Design, it comes from me just the way that I look at things, the way in which each individual views the world around them their experiences. Every person brings their own views into whatever they do. So most of my inspiration outside of Graphic Design comes from my own experiences. My personal aesthetic comes from everything I see and do it comes from the world around me my choices and experiences as well as others. In terms of technique and style development, I would like to continue working on my own trying to find my style my technique and I'm still young in the field of Graphic Design still filling my way around the different programs, techniques and concepts.

Katelyn's Reflection

I really enjoy branding projects and trying to find a style and image that creates the feel of something without spelling it all out for someone.  I like the though and process of building up to the final product.  I think moving forward I would like to purse that area of design.  Also this year I have been fascinated with Big MB’s church bulletins.  Small as they may be, each week they are new and eye catching and are created to go with the sermon series.  It’s one of the simple things I could definitely see myself doing someday for a church.

I am not ashamed to say that I get a lot of my inspiration from Pintrest.  Mainly it comes the internet and drawing lots of sketches which gets my brain rolling.  I also get a lot of inspiration from magazines layouts, and watching typography on lots of packaging and logos.  Outside of the graphic design world I get my inspiration from textures and patterns on almost anything, from funny stories and my friends’ moods.

I am not really sure what my personal aesthetic would be considered.  I am not really sure that I have done enough projects.  I don’t have enough knowledge about how to use the computer programs to get my imagination into the computer.  My eye goes to bold and elegant or doodled things; however, I end up in the most detailed projects sometimes.  I like high contrast and textures and patterns.  I would eventually like my personal aesthetic to be one that people say makes them happy when they look at it.

I really just need to try a lot of things and not limit myself or I will get stuck in a rut.  I want to explore lots of techniques and styles.  I would like to work on illustration more because it was a lot of fun.

My Reflections

I really enjoyed this class because it challenged me to think outside of the box that I was comfortable with.  It made me design things in ways that I didn't know were out there.  I loved doing my children's book and I think that that was a great project that should stay around for a while to challenge other classes with and to make them too think outside of the boxes that they are comfortable in.  

When it comes to design you have to learn where to look for you inspiration honestly and to tell you the truth I leaned on a lot of past experiences for my inspiration, like the fact that it was very hard for me to read until I was in the 6th grade and if I would have had a book like the one that I wrote speak into my life I believe that I wouldn't have given up on myself until I found The Series of Unfortunate Events.

I honestly love doing word art.  That has always been something that has interested me.  But I have to tell you that I really enjoyed all of the projects that we worked on and I cannot just pick one.  I am sorry but they are all fun and something that I want to move forward with.  

For me my personal aesthetic would have to be anything that I am interested in and anything that I want to add a little bit of “Katie Magic” to.  I want to try everything and learn whatever I can get my hands on.  I just love design and I don’t want to limit myself and with my abstract brain who knows where I will go.  The style that I want to continue with is my own and that style has no words to describe it because it is just unique.

Reflection

So far, the things that have been most interesting to me were the children's book and the mini branding projects (Glass Menagerie, Human Trafficking, etc). I really enjoyed the children's book because I got to combine a lot of different techniques and incorporate some hand-illustration, which although time consuming, was really fun. I also enjoy creating posters and then altering the design for different deliverables. 

Inside the field of design, I'm honestly not sure where I get inspiration from. I look at a lot of different sources online (yes, including Pinterest, Derek...). I am really drawn to things with big blocks of color and minimalism. I think a lot of my inspiration comes from the style of play posters. 

What counts as "outside the field of design?" I guess a lot of my inspiration from other non-design fields comes from random inanimate objects, if that makes sense. I like objects with jagged edges and bold colors. Also, environment really inspires me. I am really affected by the environment and lighting, and that can definitely influence my productivity and the way I think.

My personal aesthetic... Like I mentioned earlier, I really like color blocks and minimalism. Recently I've been getting more into the hand-drawn illustrations; I am starting to experiment with that more and would like to develop that more. Something I would like to try and do is make my computer design style more like my hand-done style. I really like drawing intricate patterns and doodling, and I'd like to somehow incorporate that into my design work.

Taylor, Final Post

1.) The thing that is most interesting to me at this point is motion graphics. This is something that has always interested me and researching cool videos intrigued me even more. I enjoy working in after effects and creating our book trailers the last semester and I am looking forward to story telling. However I think I would enjoy and illustrated motion graphic more than a filmed one. But because I haven't taken the right classes for that or used the programs much if at all I my next favorite is the branding. I like to give products their own unique identity and the creative freedom of it.

- Where do you get inspiration for design work from inside the field of graphic design?

2.) People Derek tells me about... Just kidding not all the time. I just try to stay observant and if I see and idea I like I would incorporate a factor of it into my own. Shin hee told me when I was wanting to start my own art that "nothing will be its own unique thing that no one has done before, it is how you add your own twist to it and make it your own."

3.) Outside the field of design I take my inspiration from everything. Whether its studying flowers for a pattern or using children's blocks to create a logo. One thing I am trying to work on is creating my own unique work but like I said in the previous answer its difficult to do it all comes with my unique style.

4.) I think that my personal style is a combination of vector art and hand drawn illustration. This depends on the project and the style I am going for. I like to hand draw and scan in my illustrations because its sometimes faster. Another style of mine is simplistic. I don't always use this but when I do I usually like the project more than the ones that are complex.

5.) I want to continue to develop my illustration style. This is something that will stay unique to me and it will be difficult for another person to mimic . I think this will just take time, doodling, and using it on as many projects as necessary,

Erin- Final Post

1) If I were to go into anything after being in this class it would probably be something with company rebranding or packaging for products. I think these last two products are something that I liked the most out of all the products. But overall I want to still do architecture, mainly interior architecture. But I think this class has helped me learn to really listen to what the person wants and I think that will go a long way in the field of architecture because you can't just stick to your style you have to do what the customer likes too.

2&3) I mostly get my ideas from random thoughts mostly after I have what the project is. I usually keep looking at different pictures even if they have nothing to do with the project. Looking at the different pictures just makes my mind start working and picturing different things in my head that may or may not work for the project.

4) As the year pasted I realized I could keep to a certain style, but its not always going to be the exact same style because there are multiple different things that different people want and like. If I stuck to just what I wanted my client list would be very small or even zero.

5) Overall I would just like to keep building on all of it. I don't think I'm necessarily strong in everything to stop growing with it. I don't think you could ever really stop learning about it either because its always changing. So you should always be learning.

Overall I liked this class. It was definitely a struggle for me because this isn't what I was necessarily planning on doing, but I think in the long run it will help with what I really want to do. Its also something that I could possible start doing while I'm working to my true major.

This chair is contracted of wooden blocks on a leather back. I like how the designer found a unique way to make a chair; one that isn't traditional.

Motion graphic for last week. Animated icons. I like how they incorporate something common like an icon with movement and motion.
