Alastor felt heavy, not even the ache in his body was a good distraction from weight of his feelings. He had everything he worked for, and it wasn't right anymore. There was a chain on him and it wasn't put there by Ani. It put a distance between them, that once the high wore off made him want to wail with a despair he hadn't felt for a long time.

And he couldn't undo it.

When his face was turned up, he blinked a few times through wet lashes. His instinct was to hide it, to lie, to pretend that everything was fine. But Alastor didn't want to. Even as prideful of a creature he was, this want, this love for Ani was worth more than his pride. He reached out his fingers and cupped the other's face. "I thought you were still asleep,"

He still felt tired, having had troubling staying sleep last night. He imagined he had terrible eyebags. The thought that his deal holder would drag him away from his lover at their desire chilled him to his bones.

After having lingered for a few moments Alastor sat up in the bed. His long fingers ran through the tangles of the other's hair, looking down at him. There was a consideration of feeding him, and making him coffee first, but it was just a way to put the conversation off. "Last night, years of work finally paid off, mon amour. It was magnificent, it's been all I've wanted for so long,"

He paused, "I was too focused on it I hadn't considered the consequences it might mean for us. I should have, before I made a mistake," His throated felt tight. He made a mistake last night.

Slowly, Ani's hand slipped from Alastor's face. His expression tuened into something blank, unreadable, as he looked at him, though his eyes didn't register a gaze. It made sense. Those very rituals were the one thing Alastor kept from him, along with everything about them. He taught him about bones, the importance of each and every spirit. All the things they loved, and how to show appreciation.

So all this time, he was trying to get away from him? No. There was regret on his face. He'd never seen Alastor like that before. Hold something back, yes, but not so openly show what turmoils were going on behind the wetness of his eyes. After a moment, Ani pushed himself up from the mattress. Just a little. His shoulders remained slumped and kept him at Alastor's level. He swallowed, watching the folds and ripples of their sheets grow blurry behind his own eyes. Seeing Alastor so anguished very well may have brought out his own tears, whether he knew the reasoning or not. This was his heart, his lover, his everything he couldn't believe existed in this world.

"... Why?" he finally spoke, "Why did'ja want this?" There had to have been a reason. Could Alastor be honest about it with him, now? He slipped to sit over the side of the bed and grabbed his shorts from where they draped over the bedpost at the foot of the bed. When he pulled them on, his hands went to his face.

Pain is delightful, Alastor relished in it. But it wasn't a need above all else with Ani. Intimacy of all kinds was deeply enjoyed, because this was deeper than anything he felt for someone else.
