mob pretending to get stabbed through the chest by serizawa’s umbrella was so stone cold. can we talk about that. that was such a clever, ruthless move on mob’s part. that kinda took me by surprise when I first saw it because I didn’t think it was something mob would do but damn did he do it well. he had that sad little lip tremble and eye wobble and everything. baby voice going “ow….” stopped terrorist serizawa IMMEDIATELY in his tracks. mob knew serizawa didn’t want to hurt people right away and used it to distract him in perfect form.

i would like to talk abt how yuzuru tachikawa went OFF in storyboarding/directing the separation arc w/ the use of natural and artificial light on reigen.

we only see his face w natural light before opening s&s

and then after his fallout with mob, it’s only behind him.

his face becomes illuminated by only his laptop in his apartment

also after mob leaves him, the blinds in the office are closed compared to when he first started. this is the window that originally showed him the light. he is subconsciously shutting out that dream of “being somebody”

the only exception to this rule is his convo w/ ekubo, who is the character he can be the most honest to.

when we get to the bar scene, it’s nighttime, so there’s ONLY artificial light. it’s framed similar to him looking out the s&s window, which was the last time he was able to live w/o the fake “psychic” title. except now, it’s lit blue instead of warmly.

he wants the same thing, but the second time is leading him to a path of self destruction: like a moth to a flame.

when we get to the Cancellation, he’s under studio lights and, later, camera flashes. the lights are brighter but his shadows are harsher. he’s being seen but in the worst way possible.

lastly, you’d expect sunlight to be on his face when mob tells him he’s a good person, but it stays in the shadows because reigen doesnt Say it. he hasnt Told mob hes a fraud. you can see the shadows creep into his face when he lifts his face. the good part of him is acknowledged

Reigen's on Twitter's Trending Topic, so I had to check what's up. Definitely not disappointed at what I encountered.

a comic where serizawa and reigen get into a tense conversation about counsellors and moms (and maybe actually about other things, too).

this is a bit experimental, and may be a bit rough around the edges. i mostly did it bc 1) i wanted to explore reigen and serizawa's flaws and relationships, 2) try to make smth out of serizawa mom's OVA drama cd gag, 3) explore the idea of courage, again. (i think it's also hilarious that reigen just insists on not telling seri abt his lack of powers despite telling mob and tome(after like a month??). and seri just knows and rolls with it. despite sincerity being his whole thing, i think he's good at accepting lies.) some dialogues are also intended to have extra weight with context from reigen separation arc and final ???% arc. i'm not sure if they came across well. but if not, i hope you enjoyed it anyway!

Thinking about Reigen's relationship with food. About how he's canonically a good cook. About how he shows his affection by buying people (cheap) dinner and take out. About how he shows off his knowledge of nutrition and cooking techniques. His loneliest memory is being the only kid in school without a lunch on sports day. His lowest moment is nearly starving to death on a train in an alternate dimension.

Thinking about how Serizawa never learned to cook. About how he spent so many years without family meals. That he decided to get an omelet in the middle of Claw's takeover. That he mostly eats cup noodles because he lives on his own.

Does Reigen ever cook for him? Does he help him buy groceries and make meal plans for quick, easy, nutritious meals? Teaches him simple recipes? Reigen starts bringing lunch to work, and he makes extra on purpose so he can give some to Serizawa. Reigen plans an elaborate holiday meal before inviting Serizawa over, only to be rejected because he already had plans (if only Reigen had asked sooner). Serizawa and his mother start bonding over family meals. Maybe he's not great at it, maybe he doesn't even enjoy cooking on its own, but he loves being able to spend time with her.
