Sometimes I think about how violently powerful Merlin is. How completely useless he is at the softest forms of magic, mainly healing. He has so much raw strength teeming below his skin and he tries so hard to use it for softness. He grows strawberries and creates butterflies and manifests eggs to juggle, but what he's really good at is violence. His power sings when its unleashed on enemies. It is most comfortable creating forces of nature. It slows time instinctively. Softness is something Merlin must work to create and I just think that was either a brilliant choice or a television miracle.
