sorry for the current lil radio silence, folks. between the weather being just... no and me taking on a pretty ambitious private little project with a pretty close deadline, I haven't been in the headspace to be around much in the last couple of days.

so thanks to @agentsterling I shall now spend the morning thinking about what Clint has seen in his Void rooms and whether or not he’ll try to investigate what happened exactly when all of New York was swallowed by the Void. possible implication: him investigating Val because a ton of missing O.X.E intel surely is a bit suspicious. clashes with the New Avengers? possible.

at the same time he needs to make sure Fisk’s anti-vigilante task force won’t come for his ass.

Send a 👫and I’ll write four headcanons I have about our muse’s relationship . accepting !

i . Sterling has a reputation as the Hawkeye-Wrangler within the agency , especially since his promotion to Head of Department . to this day no other agent has managed to make Clint hand in paperwork and reports on time , let alone have him fill them in properly . Sterling claims it's due to the cookies , but they both know it's the power of friendship .

ii . while Clint is notoriously bad with birthdays , he , so far , has never failed to leave a little something for Ara on Sterling's desk for her birthday . due to her being so young , still , it's been little plush toys so far .

iii . whenever one is upset with the other ( which rarely happens ) , they proceed to sign their fight instead of discussing things aloud , because they've silently agreed that the rest of the agency doesn't need to know . this has occasionally led to general confusion , since it can happen that one hears absolutely nothing coming from Sterling's office and the next second a huffing Hawkeye may come storming out , flying papers in his wake .

iv . after the Chitauri attack and Loki's brainwashing that led to Clint murdering dozens of SHIELD agents , he was too ashamed and terrified to face anyone at the agency for months . it took Sterling simply turning up at his apartment one night with a sixpack of beer to get Clint to finally crack and talk . learning that he still had a friend at the agency , no matter what , helped him heal more than words could ever say .

Sterling sighed and leaned back in his chair, motioning for Clint to just come into his office to continue this conversation.

"Chen took Ara to her mom's for the week. We needed some... I needed some time to sort myself out." Though still being at work at 3am working on files by lamplight hardly looked like sorting himself out. For Sterling it looked more like burying it.

"Why are you still here? Don't tell me the rumors of you living in the vents is actually true. I knew we should have had those fumigated." He added a tired smirk to try and lighten the mood.

the question wasn't completely unfounded , considering that six foot three and two - hundred and thirty pounds moved into the office , settling down opposite Sterling . the rumor's fun though - and it seemed to creep out the new recruits , specifically .

" flyin' out in an hour . Madripoor's callin' . " because work never slept so why should he ? cocking his head to the side , he considered Sterling for a moment . " you alright ? I mean . . . no offense , man , but you look rough . "

" NO , YOU GET OUT OF BED . " trust him , it hurts just as much to say it as it does to hear it . only takes about ten seconds for him to get it out without hating himself , too . . .

turns out it's a little too easy to forget the time when you're busy doing - things . private , fun things that incidentally end with a very nude god in one's bed . he's not sure they've slept . an hour maybe ? two , tops , sometime in the early hours of the morning , when the physical part of the night had slowly , comfortably turned to talk and laughter and sleepy little confessions . and both of them had completely forgotten about the early team meeting set at 7:30 unholy AM by a certain star spangled pain in everyone's backside .

Clint , one brow arched , smirk tugging at the corners of his lips , cautiously approaches the bed . he can't find his shirt , but at least has managed to get into a pair of sweatpants . " c'mon . dad'll be cross if we don't get there on time . " and his mood is way too good to let Captain America sour it now . one hand extends to the god ( he has a feeling he might regret this ) as if he could actually pull Thor up , but hey , a for effort .

it’s not Sunday yet so excuse me for being atypically dirty for a moment but one of Clint’s ( and mine ) biggest kinks is people trusting him with incredibly important and difficult missions because they know he’ll get them done , no questions asked 😌

the kind they probably should've sat around and spoken with a paid therapist for, but besides from a trusted psychologist she calls every other month just to prove to herself that she could, maria doesn't think that that was something they were both going to do—at least, not without struggle. not without, probably, a literal teeth pulled out. and she can't blame him on that too, not when they're too similar like this. pieces of a once whole vase.

but at least her redirection works.

and, listen, it isn't— it isn't because she doesn't trust him, really. in fact, he's probably the only few she has left that she could fully trust, even if she would never admit, not aloud, for his own safety, but it's— what she has going on, it's completely a fool's errand. and whatever mission she'll get herself roped in under fury's order to go dark would be on her. it's quite literally not his burden nor responsibility to bear.

FEAR . HE'S PRIMARILY REACTING LIKE THIS OUT OF FEAR . nothing he can be blamed for either , really - not with the recent history of him losing pretty much everything and now having nowhere to go . to attach himself back to old habits and friends acquaintances undoubtedly is appealing . something something about coming home and stepping into the comfortable , save embrace of something familiar . truth is , Clint's never been particularly great on his own . effective , sure , but like some wandering animal looking for its pack .

now . what do you do when what you think is left of your pack tries to ship you off on some bogus mission just to get you out of the way ?
