While initial reactions to The Sims 4 Snowy Escape Expansion Pack seemed positive overall, many South Korean players have pointed out some problematic imagery featured in the pack that is insensitive towards the history between Japan and South Korea. The frame from the reveal trailer that you can see down below shows a Sim interacting […]
Hi! I know I’m not really part of the Sims community on Tumblr anymore. but I needed to share this. I have also translated the Korean comments because I felt the Google Translated versions didn’t do them justice. Please note that I have changed some phrasing and wording to make it flow better in English.
“Look, this is the result of orientalism. This pack is slathered with the Japanese culture they love so much. How the fuck do you have so little things to add that you add shrine worship lmao? Would people still be praising this video if Auschwitz was in it? EA ignores the history of other countries yet pretends to understand East Asian culture. Keep fucking celebrating this pack and say it’s ‘just a game’ if you want”
“wow Ea and foreign users really can’t even spare a single thought for other people. So it’s all fine if you get to have fun while playing? ;-; Of course I think Japanese culture should be respected in its own right. But shrine worship is different. Is it necessary for us to respect something that symbolises oppression and pain just because it’s ‘culture’? Is there a need to include this in a game that many Koreans enjoy? There will definitely Korean players who play this pack and become desensitised to this part of history as they watch sims repeatedly do the action. I’m not asking for anything else, please just remove this interaction”
😎 ea giving us exactly as much as we can expect from them once again im done w this game im deactivating bye
