ALTS DESIGN OFFICE. Shimotoyama House Renovation. Shiga. Japan. Japan. photos: Kenta Kawamura
Heritage meets Modern Life. This family home designed by ATLS DESIGN OFFICE shows a beautiful renovation of a 53 year old countryhouse in Shiga. It’s great to see that the architects returned this house to its old ricefield character and you can feel Japan’s ancient history in every corner. Modern elements are inserted in a very considerate way. They work together perfectly with ancient traditional features, like the original Japanese style room which now serves as a garden, as well as with the preserved wooden frame structure, which reminds everyone of its cultural heritage.
