@archive-leavingthenets
do u ever just wish u could be an ancient oracle and your whole job was to do weed and tell stupid riddles to rich conquerors only for them to misinterpret your words and die
1) the lyrics are gorgeous and 2) it’s to the tune of come thou fount
us tv: reviewed
my favorite note that i’ve taken so far in seminary is “sacrificial offerings = bbq”
when i read john dominic crossan’s book on the historical paul it’s over for you paul-hating losers (im the paul-hating losers)
sometimes i forget i gave away my copy of jesus: a revolutionary biography and then i remember and i get sad
wild that almost every person in my seminary small group has had some sort of physical/auditory connection to God/the Divine/the Sacred/etc. except me who's just like "god doesnt even have to be real for my faith to function"
my spiritual formation class has an exercise where you talk about what different aspects of your faith mean to you and when it got to jesus i had to physically restrain myself from being like “yeah i mean the historical jesus' body was probably torn apart by wild dogs”
i forget sometimes how much growing up in a tradition that was focused solely on conversion set this uncomfortable foundation for my own experience of faith like conversion is not the ultimate goal of my faith anymore, but it’s still there in the language i use sometimes and it makes me angry
Reminder that Labor Day is on this randomass day bc America is too anti-communist to have it on May 1 like the rest of the damn world
well-meaning christians who still kinda think being lgbt is icky but cant just come out and say it, "well i know you wouldnt CHOOSE to be this way. nobody would CHOOSE it."
No offense @ christian kids but i think watching all those veggie tales did something to yall
sounds like OP doesn’t like to talk to tomatoes or waltz with potatoes
Don’t come at me about the Bible and homosexuality if you’re using it to justify your homophobia. I will demolish you.
Also, for some cultures including early Christianity, sodomite could very well have ment someone gravely inhospitable, as the sin of Sodom was inhospitality and not anal sex.
I wanted to talk about that too but I was running out of tweets I could put on a singular thread 😅 thank you so much for this addition!
I’m Christian and what I learned throughout my life is that God made you how you are and loves you no matter what, and nothing takes away his love for you. If you’re gay, awesome God loves you. If you’re straight, awesome God loves you too. If you’re alive, awesome God loves you. Also if you’re dead. Any Christian who acts in hatred towards people because they don’t understand their identity is against the ways of Christianity because that means they hate something God made with love, yall “Christian” homophobes really gotta back off and mind your own business, like the second greatest commandment was to “love your neighbor as yourself” so better live by that too if you’re one of the people who condemns the LGBT community :///
1 John 4:7-8 (NIV): Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1 John 4:20: Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen
From a Christian stand, would it be fair to consider Nationalism the worship of a false idol?
I’m just saying, if I had a replica of the golden cow and I stood in front of it in a golden cow t-shirt and golden cow hat with golden cow tattoos, held up a gun and threatened to shoot and kill anyone who disrespected the golden cow, or at the very least beat the shit out of them and remove them from their homes, I feel like it’d raise some red flags
Like yeah I worship God and follow His teachings above all else, but like… not if they go against the Golden Cow
AND THAT’S THE TEA
“Are you capable of forgiving and loving the people around you, even if they have hurt you and let you down by not being perfect? Can you forgive them and love them, because there aren’t any perfect people around, and because the penalty for not being able to love imperfect people is condemning oneself for loneliness?”
— Harold S. Kushner, When Bad Things Happen to Good People
