Desideria smiles, stepping through the portal and glancing around the location chosen for the event to be faced with undisturbed nature. There was a log, well - a fallen tree, that could even serve as a good seat.

Settling down comfortably she shoots Shade another smile before turning her gaze up to the starry sky.

“Being an adventurer leaves you in a lot of previously unexplored areas. This happens to be one of my favorite, since it’s the most peaceful.”

Shade sits down next to her, letting out a content sigh.

She shrugs. ‘Most it takes is practice, and getting into the right mindset.’ And keeping ones feet straight on the ice.

Now, stargazing…

‘That sounds like an excellent idea.‘

“Well then my dearest.” Shade swept open his arm as he opened a shadow door.

“To the outer reaches of Opal where no light pollution will get in our way. I’ve heard it’s supposed to be a cloudless night.”

She snickers lightly, that was true enough. She had to make sure to save them, just to have something to tease with.

The answer to the question, however, is a so-so gesture. ‘I had an advantage in that I was trained in ballet already when I first took to the ice, and I was quick to figure out how to keep my balance. Learning everything else on ice was a bit harder.’

“Yes, I can imagine leaping off the ice and spinning is so much harder than keeping your balance. I can’t even imagine keeping my balance, nonetheless some of the stunts you’ve ended up pulling today.”

He pulled back his sleeve to check the time.

“It’s going to be dark soon. I know a lovely little hill where we can stargaze uninterrupted, if you so please.”

She waved her hand in dismissal as she gave him a small smile. ‘Oh, no. I had plenty of opportunity to show off while making sure you were less of Bambi on ice’, she teased right back, returning the rented skates where she found them.

She had found it a lot of fun to try her hand at teaching something that came easily to her these days.

‘It is just unfortunate I didn’t get any pictures.‘

“Oh please. I’m sure if you look on the internet in a few days, there will be plenty of videos of me from other people who were here. Then you’ll have plenty of memories to humiliate me with.”

Shade rolled his shoulders, earning a sharp crack from one side.

“My back is most certainly going to bruise after this. Did you fall this much when you first started?”

Desideria lets out a soft huff of laughter. ‘From the looks of it, luck. Now, this is the simplest way of getting forward on ice without loosing balance…’

She proceeds to run Shade through the basics one needs to skate well and effectively without being Bambi on ice, easily keeping pace.

Shade tried to soak up the information as best he could. And he was having fun doing it.

It wasn’t until everyone was being ushered off the ice for closing time did he realize how late in the day it was.

“Heavens. It’s already late afternoon. I hope you teaching me didn’t cut into too much time of you showing off how much better you are at this than me.” He joked.

‘Take your time, but I could give you a few tips.’ Gliding around him to come up to his side, she takes a good look at his stance. ‘Beginning with teaching you how to balance properly, it seems.’

Nudging his foot with one of hers, she gives a sharp smile. ‘A good start is to keep your knees lightly bent, it gives you better control of the balance. There’s nothing wrong with sticking close to the rail until you’ve gotten a hang on it and taking it gradually, either. You get less to no bruises that way.’

“I’ll keep all that in mind. Especially when I undoubtedly find myself face first on the ice sometime today.” EVen as he joked, he did follow Desoderia’s instructions.

“How did I ever survive five years ago, the world may never know.”

Desideria ignores the giggles from those nearby, not interested in whatever they giggled about.

‘Considering I’ve never seen the later, I’ll take your word for it. It hasn’t been quite as long since I last was on ice… A little over a year, I think. Not a particularly interesting occasion.’ For a change.

“Well. Certainly more recent than me. And at least you’re decently trained. If I performed this horribly five years ago I would have been sporting bite marks on my stomach. At least, only for a short while. But it’s the idea of it that makes me shutter.”

He stumbled on the ice again, but managed to keep his balance.

“Heavens how do people learn this without being covered in bruises by the end of the day.”

She relaxes as he stands on his own and the physical contact ending, offering a small smile instead. Well, she wouldn’t be one to blame him for losing his balance on ice.

There is a soft, quiet giggle that leaves her, however. ‘Oops?’, she finger-spells, before adding with a slight teasing look. ‘Hard to believe you to be a klutz.’

“We all have places that we’re weak. You’re weak at being social and I’m weak at anything that doesn’t involve dry, solid land in a semi warm climate.” Shade joked. “The last time I was on ice was at least five years ago when I was fleeing from... lord I don’t even remember. I want to say the abominable snowman. It could be that or some sort of bear. The same really, if you ask me.”

There was a few giggles from nearby people that Shade shrugged off.

Desideria gasped in fake shock. ‘Probably? I could definitely use ice skates to behead someone.’ Not that she had ever had to do it. ‘And I wouldn’t call myself a ballerina, I don’t have the body type for it-’

She was not expecting him to fall, aborting finishing the sentence to catch him. She blinks, a somewhat startled expression on her face.

Shade was slightly surprised by the fall, just enough that he did not have time to react to it.

But he was pleasantly surprised when he did not hit the ground, but instead was caught by Desideria. After a moment of regaining his senses, he realized then that he was only inches from her face.

He quickly stood up and fixed his jacket.

“That was embarrassing.”

Desideria laughs slightly, skating backwards in front of him as he steps out.

‘Well, I’ll try to resist’, she replies, smiling. ‘Take it at your own pace, I just have an advantage in having training.’

“Oh yes. A full time ballerina who can also ice skate and could probably use her ice skates to behead someone. It’s very reassuring to know that she’s skating laps around me.”

Shade, not nearly as good at skating as Desideria was, His legs came out from under him as he fell forward.

‘I know some‘, she responds, ‘but I need to see how much I’ve lost since last time. I’m just going to do some warm ups to see.‘

Stepping out on the ice, ever so carefully, Desideria makes her first lap of the rink, starting carefully but quickly moving on to gliding on one leg or the other as she cycles through basic figure skating warm ups. Skidding to a halt by Shade she frowns thoughtfully.

‘Well, I’m not as rusty as I feared, at least.‘ She likely had muscle memory to thank for most of it.

“I am not going to be that lucky. Please no pictures if I fall flat on my face please.”

Shade stepped on the ice and stumbled. After a moment he caught his balance.

Desideria smiles and shrugs lightly before stepping through it to the ice rink, before heading over to rent a set of skates - she picked a pair of white skates with toe picks, subtly enhancing their quality with her powers.

When they get to changing shoes to skates, she also takes the opportunity for some basic stretches like she would if she was going to be dancing, just so she wouldn’t hurt herself.

‘It’s been a while since I’ve been skating, so I might be a bit rusty‘, she confesses as she steps out on the ice.

“I’ve never been good at skating myself. I know the basic movement, since I’ve had to skate a few times in my various adventures. But anything more than that, I don’t exactly know how to skate. And especially not properly.”

She leans back in her chair, placing her spoon aside. ‘I can’t seem to recall any other plans, so doing some ice skating would be nice’, she admits. She did keep the habit of doing a lot of exercise herself, so…

An ice rink, though… It had been a while, so she was likely unforgivably rusty. She needed to polish her skills.

‘Very nice, actually.‘

"Well, the let us be on our way. And I think we should save time and use a shadow door.”

Shade motioned towards a shadow door as he opened one in front of them.

She waves her hand dismissively. ‘Well, somebody has to. Might as well be me’, she signs as she has her spoon in her mouth. ‘I’m not complaining either, this works fine.’

With that she continues eating of the ice cream without pausing to sign more.

He doesn’t say anything else, but eats in a comfortable silence. 

When he is sure there is nothing left in the bowl, he leaned on the table.

“Well. That may very well take me some time to burn off. Not that I’ve ever particularly cared about what I’ve eaten, but a certain speedster friend of mine has gotten me into the habit, unfortunately. Do we have any other plans for today? I know there is an ice skating rink nearby.”

She laughs lightly. ‘You shouldn’t be afraid to experiment a little with what you eat’, she teases back. Although she would admit that she could be a bit too experimental for some there.

She was rather grateful that they could get an empty table, though. She eats the spoonful he offers without taking his spoon, spinning hers between her fingers…

‘Cookie dough, maybe? It isn’t mint, at least’, she confirms by finger-spelling as she fills her spoon with chocolate and strawberry.

“I’ve experimented with plenty, just not ice cream, though that can be attested to the fact i don’t have ice cream all that often. Look at you, bringing out the worst in me.” Shade takes another spoonful of the unidentified ice cream and puts it in his mouth. “I think you’re right. Though I’m not complaining. I’m sorry you didn’t get to try your mint, unless you want to get the order fixed. Though with that line, I think it might take longer.”

He waves to the line before taking his own spoonful of chocolate and strawberry.

Vanilla was nice, but… ‘How about mint? I’ve been wanting to try that.’ It was supposed to be good with chocolate, and she doubted it would be bad with strawberry…

"Chocolate, mint and strawberry, this should be an interesting sundae. And we’er both saving on calories since we’re sharing one.” He joked.

Soon enough they were at the front of the line. Once the order was set and ready, Shade had managed to spot an empty table for the two of them to sit at.

Digging his spoon on an taking a bite, he hummed in thought.

“I don’t think this is mint chocolate chip, try this?” He held out his spoon for Desideria to taste.

Desideria thinks for a moment… ‘I think a shared order sounds fine, what do you think?’ It would still satisfy her craving for something sweet.

Taking a place in the line, she glances to him again. ‘Though we should likely decide flavors beforehand. I tend to favor chocolate.’

“I tend to stick with plainer flavors, but something about ice cream brings out the sweeter taste buds. I suppose I’ll have to go with strawberry. Should we finish the flavor trifecta and get vanilla as well?”
