- THE GARDENIA CATALOGUE -

A new character to add into the Maze cast!

Her name is Pomadito and she's gonna represent as one of the Elanolian residents involved in the gardening and produce sector of the Sphere, which extensively relies on hydroponics as a workaround with the lack of nutrient-rich soil.

Would be cool that she would have a gardening catalogue demonstrating the fruit varieties found in the Maze. I'll make a separate post with more detail about her lore later.

Funnily enough, a lot of my characters' designs were driven by music. I listen to so many genres and would always tune to a particular one depending on who I work with:

Minka (left): Favors pastels and neon cyan-magenta, which derives from energetic synthwave and cheery future funk aesthetics.

Starla (right): Prefers muted and dark/navy tones but could have some bright red or turquoise accents. Mostly colour-picked from post-rock and shoegaze album covers.

Jordain: Likes chillwave and synthy downtempo types as he puts them up as his workshop's background music. His green palette suggests that he grew up from a neighbourhood surrounded by eco-futuristic solarpunk.

Kumori and Limon: Some particular type of mallsoft (a more subdued and washed out vaporwave) that samples 1970s jazz fusion and city pop. They look for nostalgic break when their lives are consumed by tech and corporatism.

Jordain is the opposite as he is the most "techy" to almost conforming levels, while the others seem to adapt their sense of themselves around technology (as vaporwave relies on sampling) and simply live "as what it is" in its new form.

Only Starla stands out from all of them since her tastes align more with Banthophlo's music scene rather than Elanolia's, which reinforces how little she fits into the Sphere's norms. She hugs her guitar way too much.

Okay, storytelling through colour.

When I picked Archlyphion's colour scheme, magenta was chosen for numerous reasons. It's mostly symbolism based on how the colour spectrum works.

Firstly, I see magenta as a mix of red and violet, which have wavelengths marking a boundary between the visible light spectrum and anything beyond human vision (infrared and ultraviolet respectively).

Secondly, magenta is an extra-spectral colour, meaning it technically does not exist in the visible colour spectrum. So in a rainbow, there's no such standalone hue like this.

This is to allude that the Maze itself is separate from the True Universe and that to them, they do not exist. Or another way to put it, it's beyond their epistemological and mortal senses they could even comprehend, due to how time and physics violate their laws of nature.

So overall, magenta is the colour of the Maze's chaotic nature.

Old infographic I made years ago just to share for this explanation, but I would definitely update it to make that more prominent.

As for the cyan/turquoise? I read up that it can represent a myriad of things in different cultures, but ones that stood out to me were truth, wisdom and the infinity. I like to call it the colour of the mortals, or those who have yet to understand the Maze (or at least try to make sense of it through their rational ways).

So if there's anything you may see with turquoise text or colour scheme, then for the most part.... that's the colour of those told only by one perspective of what they think the Maze is.

Although they're likely created by the Time of the Maze, Beanies themselves are pretty timeless in nature. It comes to show when they are typically found in places outside of the Spheres, and instead live in the most chaotic and transitionary areas called the Bridges.

My most fun line of thought is that we perceive dinosaurs as prehistoric creatures that exist only at a time period that's extinct to us, but these fellas on the other hand play against that by existing across all civilized eras (even if they have to be downgraded like chickens).

Even then, this wilderness isn't all that bad since they are well-adapted to them already. They see every encounter and physical distortion as a surprise.

First game dev post! WIP shots and concept UI + art of a current game where it's about an outcast Beanie migrating their way across a wilderness known as the Maze.

What I care most about in the making of this project is being able to see my art and OCs put into something that can be interacted with, and it's super cool I'm finally able to manifest it. uvu

While my BlueSky has showcased a lot of previous iterations, I'm going forward with only posting things I'm working on at the moment and it will mainly be on the art, music and design side of things.

My game isn't supposed to be groundbreaking or anything either, I see it more as just of an experimental ground to lock in art-wise. And it's working out pretty well so far~

First post, sure. For those who don't know me, my name is Lite - OC artist, musician and a bit of a game dev.

To think I would actually use Tumblr though? My BlueSky has usually been my go-to in posting things about my game and I say it will always be (first post of it was 6 months ago wtf). But the limited character count feels restrictive so over here, it'll just be more elaborate for additional spilled thoughts I tend to leave out, I guess.

I dunno how often I'll use it to post my own stuff, but I do wanna keep it separate from my main for this purpose. I make a lot of rambles about my OCs which I think would also be most appropriate here too, but any devlogs with my game will also be tagged as such.

But overall... yeah. Archlyphion has been something I started doing since 2018, with some collabs with a couple of my friends as part of my own personal passion project.
