My first post here

Hello. My name is Arry, but I go by Arctic.

What can I even say really? Guess I should start with an intro. I'm 29 years old, and my birthday was sometime in January. I cant remember the day. I was 27 when the sun vanished. I'm the singular employee of an oil rig off the coast of Cali, near the Pacific ocean. I was part of a research team assigned to one if the deep mountain ridges around my region. Everyone else is dead

I've got my own farming system, and theres a coral reef below, so I have food (And no, I'm not eating the fish. Not that desperate). Watching the darkwater is one of my favorite passtimes. It's peaceful out here.

I haven't seen another person since the last member of the crew drowned himself.

This is going to sound silly, but since you got the pc to run games…

Do you have any favorites?

I really enjoy Starddw Valley. I never really played it until now. Wasnt my thing, or so I thought. But it turns out, I really like it. It feels normal, I guess?

Though, theres other games I enjoy. I play Hollow Knight sometimes,as well as this game called Just Shapes and Beats. Theres a lot if games Ive bought but never played.

I figured out something new today. I was sitting inside, waiting on the water filter to finish it's little processing game, when I decided to go on my computer and see what was even still alive. Turns out, Steam still works. Means I've got things to do. It probably sounds apathetic or something. People on the mainland are dying, while I'm inside, wrapped in a blanket and making a digital farm. But I can't really help. The best I can do is sit back and hope everyone else is okay.

You should probably avoid windows when it gets warmer, just for safety sake, I’m pretty sure you’re safe from strobes, but those ships are another story, unless they start dropping them down on board.

How do you plan to get food though? Hope you’re doing well by the way

I'm doing great, thanks for asking. I've heard about the ships. Lucky for me, the rig doesn't use a lot of light, and I haven't seen a ship actually get too close. There was only one time, and I was hiding inside when it happened. To my best knowledge, strobes can't swim. At first food was a big problem. I had considered eating the fish that were swimmin around the reef. But then I had a feeling that, if the crew went crazy after drinking the water, then the fish probably weren't safe to eat, considering they live in it. Luckily for me, the big guys back on mainland had decided to use us all as lab rats. Wanted to see if "on the sea living" was possible. We've got grow beds and a water synthesizer that works like a charm. I always thought having a "seed vault" was weird. Felt like something from Fallout. But it came in handy in the end. Though I gotta say, eating vegetables for so long really makes you start to crave some meat.

Good photos? Well, there's not really much to photograph. There's the water, the rig itself. I think I got one of a ship once. It was far off in the distance, towards the coast. Dunno how it got so far out, but it sure was pretty. Kind of ethereal in that "watching a predator at a zoo" kinda way.

Yeah.

They killed all of them. I was lucky. I worked maintenance on the ship, so I knew about all of the tunnels. I made it into them and basically lived in the vents for a while. They never went to the lower floors anyways. I went out for food sometimes, and then back into the vents. There were a few times I got close to being found, but I'm okay now.

I actually saw some of the deaths. Saw them dragging away the other members of my team. Pulled them to the water's edge and grab the metal knives we'd used in the cafeteria. Part if me wanted to help. To save them. But I knew I'd just die a useless hero.

why did the others drown themselves did they have a religion ? was it ritualistically to a god or just out of desperation ? was there crabs involved?

also I asked God and their answer was unclear so did a shrimp really fry that rice

Why did the others drown themselves? If I'll be honest, I have no idea. The first few weeks, everyone kept working like normal. It was colder, sure, but we were all pretty used to the isolation. Then we realized we'd stop getting shipments. There weren't enough supplies to go around, and nobody to send it to us. One of the fancy science nerds came up with a solution.

"The water we tested has no more salt in it. So it's safe to drink." I didn't trust it. It looked gross- and still came from the sea. I had plenty of bottled water.

But the others? They weren't so lucky. I'm sure you know what happens when you drink the dark water. They formed a whole cult around it, freaked me the hell out. The ones that drank it started hunting the ones that didn't. And when there weren't any left, they started drowning themselves like sacrifices. It took a week for the last of the bodies to drift away. Oh- and for the record. I am the shrimp that fried the rice.

How has your whole experience with this apocalypse been? im curious.

My experience? Honestly, not too bad. Yeah, the whole crew killing eachother was.. a lot. But somehow, I don't feel as bad as I could be. Maybe I'm just accepting it. I don't really have any family to be worried about. Things are probably way worse on the mainland. But out here? I'm okay.
