Destined Animosity || Jinyoung and Jiho

The boy turned almost immediately, smile still on his face (which Jiho needed to learn since when Jiho was at work, his frown was permanent) after Jiho had spoken up as Jiho slid the form towards Jinyoung, exchanging it for the mountain of literature which sat in front of his face, pleading to be read. “Mm?” Jiho mumbled, directing his head to the face of the employee, “Yea, Sejong.” A small shrug at the mention – if it hadn’t been necessary for the form, he wouldn’t have mentioned it. The past was behind him, the only memories from Sejong that were vivid enough to remember were the ones in which he’d spent days and nights holing himself up at the library cramming what he could in preparation for competitions and exams. Now that he’d thought of it, Jiho wondered if his insomnia and love for books stemmed from those few years of lacking sleep and scanning words.

Jerked out of his reminiscing by the employee’s mention of a familiar name, Jiho’s brows knitted together as he tried to place the school with a memory, before matching it with one of the two other schools Sejong constantly battled with to keep its ranks. “We did,” Jiho replied with a small nod, hint of smile curling on his face as he replayed the scenes where his school had occasionally taken the prize. The smile faded just as quickly as the pictures of them losing to Hansung dropped by. “Who knows? Maybe we might have competed with each other,” Jiho shrugged with a lighthearted grin, Jinyoung looked his age – it wouldn’t be surprising if they’d run into each other.

Catching the card and reaching for the books, Jiho’s grin fell as the other questioned his hobby. None of your business. “What?” he snapped, restraining his impatience as he was tempted to simply “remove” Jinyoung’s hands from his books, “There’s nothing wrong with an undying thirst for knowledge.” Hansung kids. “Of course, surely you’d understand right…? Unless Hansung kids only cram for marks.”

Though he was tempted to erupt into a fit of laughter at the boys lack of memory recollection to exactly who he was he continued to use his witty manners in order to irritate the, already quite exasperated Jiho, who was now willing to join in Jinyoung's competition of ridiculously unnecessary remarks. He pushed the books forward to his customer, smugly, of course, before firing back any last kind of sarcastic comment he could think of in order to gain an intellectual hierarchy over the customer. "Hansung kids? Cram?" He laughed loudly, a sarcastic tone echoing through his answer "We didn't need to cram." That was a lie of course, his job in the library was purely down to his persistence to be in the place in any free hour outside of school, maybe that was because of his Father but either way, his spare time was purely taken up by studying. "See," Jinyoung tutted slightly, whilst throwing his some sort of mocking toned voice into the mix of the conversation "us Hansung students, we already had the knowledge to get us through a test." Part of that was true, a lot of the kids at Hansung were naturally clever, were able to ace a test without any form of studying but that was not true for Jinyoung, his witty remarks did nothing more than boost an ego that didn't need to be boosted. He couldn't deny that he wasn't intelligent, because of course he was, but that didn't come naturally to him, as he continued to smirk at Jiho in a sort of unwelcoming way, he realised he'd probably have to prove himself to him. Scanning back through his mind he'd thought back to the times in which he had competed against his customer, though it was only a couple of years ago at the most, his mind was blurry as to whether he had actually beat the kid in a head to head competition of intelligence; he laughed slightly at the remarks he was making in his head (probably to make him feel better about himself) as he though "Well Jinyoung, if you can't beat him of intelligence you can always beat him on visuals." But nevertheless Jinyoung thought that was a little unfair to make that remark, though he was tempted. "So Sejong boy, how about you?" Jinyoung finally retaliated "How's your natural intelligence?" So it was proven, that Jung Jinyoung the library boy had never quite lost his thirst for competition, his thirst to be the best.

Jinyoung was never usually one to receive valentines and yet the candy rose had come as no shock to him. The writing of the message already made it obvious who it was from and the witty message confirmed it, Dara had always been one to give Jinyoung negative points to think about but always turn them round in a positive way. He touched his thighs and shrugged before unwrapping the candy and sitting down to enjoy it, picking up his phone to thank Dara for her gift.

Destined Animosity || Jinyoung and Jiho

To Jiho’s dismay, the employee had confirmed his suspicions of his library card and an expired card was the last thing Jiho really needed when his intentions had been to find the book and read up on whatever he’d missed. In fact, as Jiho received the application form from Jinyoung, he realized that the librarian hadn’t answered his questions. Ah well, I’ll ask after this… he glared down at the pages of the form, wondering why the library couldn’t simply renew the card by checking ID – every time his card expired, he always needed to waste precious time on filling in the same things over again, it was a troublesome and pointless thing.

He’d registered the smile of the employee as one of perhaps “ill” intention, but Jiho figured that with long hours of spending days cramped up inside this building while dealing with irritating children or demanding citizens, the curve of lips was probably one of those forced smiles Jiho gave during his own shifts at the café. It must be a pain to work here, Jiho sighed, sympathizing with the employee, even with all these books, it’s a tedious job. If the café hadn’t been a recommended job from his co-leaders at Anathema, Jiho figured that he’d probably found himself lingering among the aisles of knowledge since it would mean first-hand and priority experience in the newest novels and documents.

Finally he finished filling out all the blanks in the paper in front of him and looked back to return it to Jinyoung for processing. The stack of books that the librarian was organizing looked exaggeratedly numerous when amassed on the table, he gave a sheepish grin to himself behind the librarian’s back, wondering why he found books a better companion than people. “Excuse me,” Jiho quietly prodded, not wanting to completely disturb the librarian from his work, “I’m done filling in my application.” Hopefully, this meant that he’d be at home snuggled with his readings as soon as possible and that his renewed card wouldn’t trouble him for another long while.

For a while Jinyoung reminisced whilst stacking up his customer books, he reminisced to those times in classrooms with their contrasting uniforms and boys with matching hair cuts, the scribbled of pens on the paper and one boy named Jiho who had caused his brain to work 10 times harder than it would have necessarily had to if it were any other group of boys. He heard the guys voice over his shoulder and turned round, the smug smile still plastered across his face and placed the books down in front of him before taking the form and sitting down at the computer. "Sejong Science High School, huh?" Jinyoung peered over his computer looking at Jiho, smugly still. He too had gone to one of the 3 science High Schools in Seoul, each said to nurture the intellectual people in the city and always in competition. He'd met Jiho plenty-a-time through the competitions and unbeknown to them both when they'd reunited moments ago over the counter of the library. Jinyoung hadn't known if his old rival had remembered exactly who he was, he hadn't known if he'd remembered their past rivalry but he was very keen to find out; very keen to reinstate that rivalry. "Hansung Science High School" He nodded and gestured to himself before looking back to the computer and continuing to type in his details. "Our schools had a lot of competitions," he spoke over his shoulder, submitting Jiho's form to the records "if I remember correctly." Jinyoung smirked and walked over to the printer, retrieving the new library card before walking back over to the counter and carelessly passing the card to his old friend. He checked through everything quickly before leaning over the counter and looking curiously at Jiho. "That should be all you need," he didn't take his hands off the books but instead watched his customer for any reactions "Why so many books anyway? Got a lot of learning to do?" Jinyoung laughed and leaned back, still watching his old rival.

Dara’s eye twitched. She knew that Jinyoung was a brat, and half expected his comment once her own had been delivered. It still didn’t make it any less offensive. “I was just on my way over, but there’s a little brat here that looked like he was in trouble,” she clarified, sarcasm dripping in her hushed tone. This was supposed to be an enjoyable reunion, not a game of who-can-make-the-best-witty-remark. Dara leaned up against the bookshelf, her lips pursing as she watched her little brat of a friend do his job and clean up.

She almost forgot for a moment that Jinyoung has superiors, and that superiors in a library are usually watching the noisy parts of the place more than the quiet ones. Or well, at least in her experience that’s usually how it is. Besides, Jinyoung had to clean up after too ultra nosy spunks- there was bound to be a superior around wondering what the hell was going on. So when his attention got taken from the stack to look at who was obviously his boss, Dara felt a little guilty. She didn’t really want him to get into trouble just because she was joshing him.

But it was still a surprise to see Jinyoung act so “proper” in front of her. Their relationship practically revolved around sarcasm and joking around with the occasional serious talk. She bowed her head back at him, not really sure what she should do exactly but Dara figured that was pretty safe. She tried not to laugh at his expression, though. “I’m looking for the art history section,” she notified, nodding her head briefly. Dara supposed that Jinyoung would want to know why she’s here. It’s not like she usually stops by the library on a daily basis. But hey, he’ll get to know that while he’s taking her to the section full of deceased artists. “I don’t supposed you can show me where that is?” she prompted, grinning a little.

He noticed Dara's change in personality as his boss lingered on the corner of the shelf and smiled a little to himself, hiding his amusement by focusing on books that were now piled up on the floor ready to be put back on the shelf. He stood up, sliding them into the space on the shelf and smiling half-heartedly who beckoned him to go and serve his customer. His boss had started to back away to what ever previous job he was doing before the disruption and as his back turned Jinyoung sighed and looked smugly towards Dara who was now stood sniggering by his side. "Dead artists, huh?" Jinyoung shrugged and directed her to a section that was at the other end of the library, a small section that not many people ever visited but it was a section that allowed him to be unnecessarily witty. He looked down at Dara who was quite a bit smaller than him and put his arm around her shoulder, "I knew you liked older men, Dara. But, isn't dead taking it a little too far?" He didn't look at her but instead pulled her with him down the aisle and stopped in front of a shelf that held a minimal number of books, none of them looking aesthetically pleasing in any way. He gestured his arms towards the books and stood back, leaning against the shelf opposite and crossing his arm across his chest, watching Dara walk toward the shelf. "You know me, always curious," he smirked as he spoke and watched contently "why the hell are you looking for these kind of books?" He reached forward and grabbed one of the books of the shelf, flipping it over in his hands and observing it with great curiosity.

On the Outside ≡ Jinyoung and Reina

Reina waits patiently for him to finish reading, her eyes wandering from his handsome features to the tablet then to random angles of the room so not to stare at a single spot for too long and unintentionally bringing some awkwardness to the settling atmosphere. When she hears the insult though, she titters though she quickly silences herself in case he would find it rude or something.

“I’m sorry if that was uncalled for,” she immediately apologizes as she brings her tablet back to her side with a wide smile “it’s just, I agree with you.” Though of course, in the current state she was in she would have probably given a rather more colourful terminology when it came to coining the CEO. It was one thing to dodge working with Arcanum but it was another to think that they could simply bypass the group and steal from them at the same time. A preposterous thought.

“Yes Lee Sungjin’s been doing this for a while too as you can tell by the file. The higher up’s thought we should’ve kept a passive watch and see if he’s stopped but he’s gotten greedier lately,” she says with a sigh, absentmindedly scrolling through his profile with a touch of her finger onto her tablet. She didn’t understand how he thought he could escape an international syndicate.

“Mhmm,” she hums, as she switches tabs with a swipe of her fingers to the data she’s been presented. She passes her tablet again with the roughly written notes by one of the spies, noticing his smirk while doing so. An interesting person and if he was that eager as her to ruin the other, it made the job all the simpler. Maybe she would find an Intel she actually got along with, minus Minri of course.

“He has a gambling addiction but he’s evidently dodged Arcanum casino so that he doesn’t have to face scrutiny. Apparently he’s been gambling company money away though so if we can catch him on that…” she trails off after her short summary, to give him some time to read the details. If they could hatch the perfect plan through the information they’ve collected, then it would definitely end pleasantly.

Jinyoung listened, his brain absorbing and calculating all of the information. Reina's attitude towards the situation had be rather polite, if it were any other person he would have thought far too polite, too polite to be intel, but then again he wasn't here to pick out the flaws of other people. In all honesty, it was nice for Jinyoung to finally encounter someone who had a slight hint of respect for people other than themselves in a company that was overflowing with narcissists. "I don't think a person in this faction wouldn't agree with me." he was still slouched back scanning through the notes, his brain ticking slowly but getting to a solution a little bit at a time. To him, it seemed too easy, someone who acted so sneakily wouldn't so easily give himself away like he had, but then again if it was a chance that they had it was a chance they had to take. His bag was sat by the side of where both he and Reina were sat, open slightly and in the gap Jinyoung could see his camera that he automatically placed into his bag every morning. As he stared into the bag an idea finally came to his mind and it would be feasible if his new colleague would be willing to participate and help him out where he needed her. With glance over at Reina he grabbed the camera out of his bag and observed it in his hands , turning it over and going over his plan before he was able to speak it aloud. "This could probably do some good," he spoke, loud and clearly, looking straight towards Reina "but first I need your help." He smiled and turned his camera on, pointing it at the wall in front of him and pretending to take a picture before holding it in his lap and turning his body slightly to face his fellow intel, a half-hearted smile spread across his face. "You can get him here right?" He wasn't sure whether Reina could or not, she'd managed to impress him so far and besides during their small meeting he'd decided that she was somebody he could work with. He waited for her response though he had guessed exactly what it would be and with that he looked down at the floor mumbling his thoughts "I have an idea."
