Traditional Market ft. Modern Mind - Exhibition Project
Beringharjo Market, Jogjakarta's biggest traditional market located at the heart of the city, enriched with the locality of the marketplace and the location at Malioboro street, is being redesigned for the next 50 years. The concept itself it to maximize natural lighting and airflow for every corner and even smallest space in the building by slicing the mass and giving a huge skylight right at the center of each mass. Front building (that represents heritage) is defended and the rest of existing three-storeys building is being replaced by the sliced-mass-concept and it helps the economical-rotation to be balanced with tourists and buyers in huge number that come every week. The aim is to create a comforting atmosphere and a cozy marketplace to visit by both the tourists (as a tourism market) and local people (as a traditional market). Perspective and interiors can be seen and downloaded by opening the other "Beringharjo Market" rendering images I've posted.
Architectural Competition: In Between.
Below is my recent architectural competition with Zaqi Fathis, Dhoni Yudhanto, Adin Akbar, and Addina Faizati for AFAIR UI 2012: Playing With Surrounding.
In Between.
This installation based on current issues: youth who tend to play with latest technology instead of direct communication and interaction between one and another. By interfere each person with the technology he/she brings, like gadget, we try to give them surprises and affect them to interact more with the surrounding -which in this case, is our installation-.
The installation itself consists of invicible net, colorful LEDs, and signal sensor. This neon-net will be placed on public spaces, such as bus stop, open area, etc. When people come and sit/stand accidentally under this neon-net, and use a gadget which emits signals, the signal-sensor will detect it and the LEDs will flash around the gadget. When that person moves, the neon-flash will move, following anywhere the gadget emits signals around the installation.
