This isn't the first time you've heard this beat. XXYYXX made it, and since then a few people have used it, including Alina Baraz on a crazy good track called Art of Persuasion. This is Sza featuring Chance the Rapper, the song is called Child's Play, and it's the best use of the beat so far. Sza is the only female on the TDE label. Silky smooth vocals with Chance's playful flow makes this one a must-listen.
Cold Skin by To Kill A King. A band out of Leeds, they have a great commercial folky sound; I could see these guys blowing up. Video is super weird but equally awesome.
This song is crazy chill breath of fresh hip hop air. The Turn Down from Audio Push, telling us that maybe we don't always have to turn up. It gets real funky at the end of the video too. Chill hip hop for sure.
Webbie Flow (U Like) by Isaiah Rashad. This is off the debut mixtape from the newest addition to Kendrick Lamar's TDE label, and he's as good as advertised. Good things coming from the kid this year.
An older one but a great one, I've been hooked on this song week. It's When They Fight, They Fight by The Generationals, and while it came out about 5 years ago, it's been used in some stuff throughout the years. Fun, upbeat track with an old-time feel.
Lusaka by Night by John Wizards. I can't exactly explain just how much I'm loving these guys right now. Love the whole feel of their South African sound; it's like a genuine version of what Vampire Weekend tries to do a lot of the time. Every song has a totally different structure, though equally great. The singer was a refugee born from a Hutu father and Tutsi mother, but the band's entire story is wild. Lay Your Cards Out by Poliça. Awesome, ambient vibes, and this girl has a great voice. Sweet dance moves too!
Ten Years Old by You Won't. Just found these guys, a funny duo that makes incredible music. The song is short, but that horn/electric violin/whatever it is DROP hits so beautifully and unexpectedly loud. Great video too! Check out their whole album, it's great.
The Night Comes Again by St. Lucia. You all know how much I've loved this guy for a long time, but I just caught him at Music Hall of Williamsburg again and this song blew the doors off the place. Really happy he's blowing up the way he rightfully should.
Mind Grenade by Little Tybee. Super smooth, easy to listen to track from a little known folky band from the ATL. Love stuff like this. Mellow, mellow, mellow.
Aubergine by Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, off the 2013 album Ripely Pine, which is just a phenomenal record. Love when her voice gets raw; incredible writing too.
This is Like a Dream from Francis and the Lights, off the Like a Dream EP from this year. Super chill, easy listening song that you can just mellow out to. And how badass are those dance moves? Perfect video for this track.
Toothless Grin from Jinja Safari. Really upbeat, happy sound and an incredibly cool video to go with it. Really dig what these guys are doing.
Separations by Diarrhea Planet, off the album I'm Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams. Kinda awful (but epic?) name, but the music is really dope, kinda grungy and crunchy. Definitely good stuff.
Line of Fire by Junip, from their self-titled album. Totally awesome video to match a great song. Love that fuzzy sound. Disappointed that I didn’t know about them until now - special thanks to a certain someone for putting me on.
It All Began With A Burst by Kishi Bashi, off the album 151a. A beautiful track from one of the most original artists I've ever heard. So much going on in this song, but it all melts together so well.

This track is called “Cheer Up/Blues Ending” and it doesn’t disappoint - the off time-signature is wonderful and James Petrali really shows his chops. Plus, he’s the son of former MLB catcher Geno Petrali!
