[Julianna couldn’t help but smile at Ariel’s words. It was like the girl’s mission was to flatter her into oblivion.] Well, thank you. [She chuckled a little as well and nodded.] Friends it is, then. But we should keep the business partner thing in mind in case our degrees ever fail us. [She joked, watching as Ariel lifted her sandwich up to her mouth.] Oh, um sure. [She gave her a warm smile before taking another bite from the sandwich as Ariel held it for her. Her cheeks flushed slightly, the act of being fed feeling a bit intimate for whatever reason.] You should have some pizza. [She insisted, debating doing the same thing Ariel had just done but settling on pushing the platter towards her instead.]

[Ariel grinned and nodded her head happily.] I think I could handle being friends and business partners with you. What's the date today? This day is important, everything has changed now that I've gotten to know you a little more. Just yesterday you were one of those girls in one of my classes. Isn't that exciting? [Amused, she shook her head at herself. She couldn't help but smile widely as Julianna took a bite of her sandwich.] You're insanely cute. [She told her as she set her sandwich down and reached for a slice of pizza. She took a bite and continued to take a sip of her drink. She was getting pretty full but of course that didn't stop her from finishing up her pizza slice and her sandwich. She sat back in her chair and reached for a napkin, wiping her hands on it and bringing it up to her mouth.] Thank you for having lunch with me today, Julianna. This is the best lunch date I've had. Ever.

[Julianna grinned with Ariel pouted. It was just too cute.] You barely know me. [She pointed out and raised her eyebrows.] How can you be so sure I have ‘so many lovely qualities’? [She asked before laughing and nodding.] Oh, totally. We’ll solve all of the world’s problems. [She took a sip of her drink and smile at Ariel’s observation.] They do, don’t they? We should totally be business partners. [She joked before finishing her slice of pizza and moving onto her next.]

[Ariel scrunched her face up at the question.] I know what I've seen so far and trust me, I'm very sure. Sometimes you can just tell, you know? I have a good feeling about you. [She raised her eyebrows with a smile.] Hm, business partners? Really? I was hoping for something a bit more than that. Like, friends, maybe. [She laughed softly, taking her sandwich into her hands again. She held it across the table, right in front of Julianna's mouth.] Want another bite?

[Julianna raised her eyebrows at Ariel.] No? You’re not some lunatic who asks people she barely knows out to lunch and showers them with compliments? [She asked teasingly.] Hmm… maybe. We’ll design a twelve-step program for them and all! [She joked along with her, amused by their conversation. After taking a bite of her pizza and finishing chewing, she took up Ariel’s offer and took a bite of the sandwich, nodding in agreement.] Mmmm. This is really good. You’re right. [She smiled and took another bite before putting the sandwich down and going back to her pizza.]

Hey, it's not my fault I'm not keen on having lunch alone. [Ariel pouted and shook her head.] But seriously, I don't compliment anyone nearly as much as I've complimented you today. You just have so many lovely qualities, I can't seem to hold myself back. [Ariel shared honestly with the tilt of her head.] Ariel and Julianna's Plan for World Peace!! Sounds wonderful. [Ariel chuckled as she took another bite of her mac and grilled cheese.] Our names sound pretty cool together. Ariel and Julianna. [She noted, setting her sandwich down on the plate.]

Like an adorable puppy. [Julianna confirmed, laughing a little at Ariel feigning offense. Her cheeks flushed a little when Ariel called her adorable as well and pointed out her bashfulness.] I’m just not used to so many compliments in a short span of time. [She explained, running her fingers through her hair.] You’re welcome! [A smile formed on her face when Ariel rambled a bit again, finding it completely endearing.] Thanks, Ariel. Yeah, I definitely agree. But I guess sometimes some people aren’t really cut out for that sort of thing, you know? And you can’t really blame them. [Their waitress returned with their food and she thanked her, looking to Ariel once she left and smiling.] Remember, you’re welcome to have some of my pizza. [She reminded her as she picked up a slice.]

Believe it or not, I'm not used to giving so many compliments in a short span of time. [Ariel chuckled at Julianna, noticing the hint of pink in her cheeks.] I know exactly what you mean. Maybe we can start them off with baby steps? Have them send "I hope you're having a good day!" card to their neighbors. Surely that wouldn't hurt anyone. [She suggested, only half serious. She couldn't remember the last time she enjoyed a conversation so much. Ariel pushed her plate to the middle of their table with a small smile.] And you're welcome to have some of my grilled mac and cheese. [She took a bite of the sandwich.] Which I think you should because it tastes amazing. [Ariel told her once she finished chewing her food.]

[Julianna laughed appreciatively at Ariel’s answer about the prank she pulled on her friend.] Oh, wow. You’re cruel. [She teased, then shook her head.] I’m doubtful of that. You’re so adorable, really. [As Ariel explained her whole academic situation, she listened intently and nodded along, impressed that Ariel was valedictorian at her school, but also not surprised either.] Well you shouldn’t do what everyone expects of you, you should do something you love. So, kudos to you. [She offered her a smile, then shrugged.] It’s going pretty well, actually! I love it. I’d love to be the one to make a difference in somebody’s life, y’know? To help people.

[Ariel playfully narrowed her eyebrows at Julianna.] Adorable? Like a puppy? [She feigned offense before laughing softly.] I'm joking. You're adorable as well. I like the way you get all shy whenever I compliment you. [She smiled, leaning back into her chair and getting a bit more comfortable.] Doing what people expect is boring. But, yeah, thanks. [She ran a hand through her hair as she listened to Julianna speak, completely intrigued by her.] That's beautiful, Jules! Anyone would be lucky to have you help them. You're definitely going to make a difference. There's this quote, "The only time you look in your neighbor's bowl is to make sure that they have enough. You don't look in your neighbor's bowl to see if you have as much as them." I think everyone should help, whether it's counselling, or something else. The world would be a better place.

[Julianna raised her eyebrow.] Oh? Like what? [She shook her head and smiled.] I find your rambling endearing, really. It’s a positive thing. [She insisted.] Any specific area? And I’m thinking of going into social work. Like, counselling and stuff, mainly.

Nothing bad. I put purple hair dye in her shampoo once. [Ariel laughed at the memory.] You're probably the first to think that. [She looked down for a moment, letting her gaze linger on her hands before bringing it back up to Julianna's face.] Well, I'm majoring in Art History until the end of the semester. You see, I went into college not knowing exactly what I wanted to do with my life. People thought it was unfair, especially because I got into this school. You know, you'd think a valedictorian would go into like, medical or engineering. And that's what everyone expected of me. [Ariel shook her head after catching herself rambling again.] Berkeley's been nice to me, and I'm very grateful. But hey, that's really cool. How's it going for you?

[Julianna raised her eyebrows.] Oh? Any reason why? [She asked, then smiled as Ariel seemed to blush at her compliment.] You’re welcome. And really? I don’t see why not, you’re the sweetest person I’ve ever met. [Their waitress came over to take their orders and once she was gone, she looked back at Ariel.] So, what are you studying?

I like to pull harmless pranks on her. [Ariel shrugged, smirking mischievously. She nodded her head in response.] I'm pretty sure it has to do something with my ramblings. I scare people away. [She joked. Ariel took a sip of her drink before answering the question.] Art. What about you?

[Julianna smiled shyly and shook her head. She really wasn’t used to getting complimented so much in such a short period of time.] You’re too sweet. [She murmured, not looking at her. She let her gaze meet Ariel’s again and smiled softly.] You’re the beautiful one, though. And I can already tell that you’re definitely beautiful on the inside.

[Ariel laughed softly, shaking her head and smiling at Julianna.] You should try telling that to my friend. She swears I'm a spawn of Satan. [She played with the pen in her hand, slightly blushing at her compliment.] Thank you, pretty lady. I can't remember the last time someone gave me an actual compliment.

[Julianna smiled and nodded, taking the piece of paper from her and glancing at it before tucking it into her pocket.] Will do! [She raised her eyebrows at Ariel’s reply, not understanding her question at first. Her cheeks flushed as Ariel finished speaking and she shook her head.] I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not that great. You say that like I’m Aphrodite status or something.

[Ariel furrowed her eyebrows, rolling her eyes playfully and smiling.] What do you mean you don't know what I'm talking about? You look like the type of girl people write novels about, Julianna. [She thought for a moment.] I don't know much about you but if you're this beautiful on the outside, you're probably just as beautiful on the inside. I believe it's all connected that way.

[Julianna couldn’t help but grin at Ariel’s enthusiasm about their common interests in regards to food.] Same here. We should definitely go to Olive Garden some other time. [She chuckled.] Oh, we obviously were. [She said playfully.] I’ll go with pizza and you can have some of it if you’d like. [She told her and noticed Ariel just looking at her.] Do I have something on my face, or…? Why are you looking at me like that? [She asked, tilting her head slightly to the side in confusion.]

Well, I'm free for lunch every day, so. Let me know. [Ariel smiled, pulling a pen from her pocket and scribbling her number on a piece of paper. She pushed it toward Julianna's end of the table afterwards. She accepted her offer with a nod.] Sure! But only if you can't finish it on your own. [Ariel laughed at her questions and shook her head, keeping her gaze still.] I like looking at you, sorry. [She responded truthfully.] Are they used to it? The people in your life, I mean. Your friends, and your family, and your boyfriend. Are they used to how pretty you are? Because I don't think I could get ever used to it.

[Julianna chuckled at how seriously Ariel took the question, raising her eyebrows when she answered.] Yeah? What kind of pasta? [She asked.] I personally love fettuccine alfredo. [She glanced down at the menu for a moment, then back up at Ariel.] I’m debating between a burger or a pizza.

[Ariel raised her eyebrows and smiled at Julianna in excitement.] Hey! Me too! Fettuccine alfredo is the only thing I get at Oliver Garden. [She nodded her approval at her choices.] I was thinking about getting a burger or a pizza too! I think we were meant to be, Julianna. [She laughed.] But I think I'm gonna go with grilled mac and cheese. It's too good. [She took a moment after speaking to admire the girl's face. She really was pretty and Ariel liked looking at her.]

I’ll hold you to that. [Julianna said playfully, bumping into her shoulder a little. As they walked into the restaurant and Ariel pulled her chair out for her, she smiled at her.] So chivalrous. Thank you. [She reached for the menu, opening it and glancing up at Ariel when she spoke.] Oooh, very hard… I love Italian food. But I also love like Chinese and sushi. I’d probably go with sushi. What about you?

[Ariel furrowed her eyebrows at Julianna in deep thought. She'd probably been asked the question a billion times before, and every single time she had a different answer.] Hm. Today, I'm gonna go with pasta. [She smiled, looking down at the menu in Julianna's hand.] What're ya getting?

[Julianna smiled and shook her head.] Why don’t you tell him that? Maybe you can teach him. [She joked, then nodded.] I don’t blame you, I would too. [She chuckled as Ariel opened the door for her and walked inside.] You’re such a gentlewoman, thank you.

I will if I ever get the chance. [Ariel joked, laughing a little. She greeted the host and they were soon seated. Ariel pulled Julianna's chair out and sat across from her. She didn't bother picking up a menu since she already had her order in mind.] Okay, I'm going to hit you with some hard questions. What's your favorite food?

[Julianna smiled shyly and shook her head.] You need to stop that. Not even my boyfriend compliments me that much. [She frowned for a moment at the though of Cage. She had been so absorbed in texting him because they were having another dumb fight. But Ariel had already managed to cheer her up in the short amount of time they had spent together so she tried not to think about him.] Riverside, huh? Damn. Do you like it here?

[Ariel's expression faltered at the mention of Julianna's boyfriend. She quickly brushed it off and offered the girl a small smile, content even having just a friendship connection with her.] That's a shame. He should start. [She responded simply as they approached the restaurant doors.] I love it. There's a whole world out here, Julianna. But sometimes I do miss home, of course. My family mostly. [She beamed and happily pulled the door open for Jules.] After you, pretty lady.

[Julianna raised her eyebrows.] Oh? And why is that? [She asked and smiled at people she knew as they passed people walking through campus.] I am, indeed. What about you?

Beautiful people should be reminded that they're beautiful. And you're by far the most beautiful person I've encountered since I moved here. [Ariel casually explained it to her, spotting the Mac Shack in the distance.] I'm from Riverside. I came up here by myself. Outgrew my small town.

[Julianna shook her head at Ariel.] Do you always compliment girls this much? [She asked as they continued walking.]

[Ariel tilted her head.] Nope, just you. [She admitted, waving at a few people she knew as they walked together. She turned to Julianna after a few moments.] So, Jules, are you from here?

[Julianna laughed and followed Ariel’s lead, confused when she suddenly turned around and bumped into her, then laughed when Ariel explained.] Are you absolutely sure? [She teased as she turned around and followed her again.]

[Ariel smiled widely at the sound of Julianna's laughter and even laughed along. She nodded at the girl, adjusting the bag strap on her shoulder.] Yes. You're just so beautiful, I'm dazed.
