Nothing extraordinary had led Edward to this train of thought. In fact, a quite common and trodden path had sent him to it; while he laid in bed, sleepless, his mind had wandered. It drifted from flecks of his past, to smears in the future, before finally settling on Al.
Al had always talked about the great big family he’d have. He’d go on and on about his future spouse and their children, fawning over things like the first day of his child’s kindergarten class. His eyes had sparkled while he spoke.
Edward felt guilty, because Al’s dreams had been snatched from him. And then he grew angry, because why should he get to live and have a future, when Al died?
He quickly shoved that thought under the rug.
“Ohoho,” said the wizard while wearing a wicked grin, “I better get started then, huh?” Once he was sitting, he snapped his fingers. A ball of string appeared in a poof of smoke and fire. And then– wait.
Smoke and fire?
“That’s new,” Edward muttered.
Note to self, he then thought, Check the fire alarms. Oh, and after that… make sure I’m not a candle ready to blow up a box of TNT.
Kousei did not take kindly to Edward moving, and he made it known. He grumbled quietly in protest, and sat up, just to snuggle himself up to the wizard’s back.
Rubbing at his eyes, Kousei yawned. “Yeesh, can’t it wait until morning, at least? You have plenty of time.” Like, years. The pianist still wasn’t all that tired, but that didn’t lessen his clinginess in the slightest bit. In fact, it only seemed to make it worse. So, his arms found their way around Edward’s waist again, and he rested his head between the wizard’s shoulder blades.
