Hi, I'm Crow (or Yume) and this is my Dragon's Dogma sideblog for (most*) things Dragon's Dogma, including my screens, memes, videos, fic, and rambling. And also reblogs, lots of reblogs. I adored the first game so I love seeing the resurgence of love for the series and everyone's characters and stories!

The shot went wide. The moment Epilear's finger twitched, compressed the trigger on his rifle, he could tell the shot went wide. The bullet whizzed past the raider he'd been aiming for — it was strange, because he was usually so good at this — and he found himself meeting focused grey eyes from across the battlefield.

The shot went wide.

He felt something in him stutter, a frisson of familiarity that bloomed and curled as if in flames. He never had much opportunity to speak to the older man, but he felt it all the same.

Maybe, in some ways, he'd been avoiding him. That sense of familiarity had always scared him, and now his bullet hurtled towards him — and he could swear the other man's lips parted, saying something.

What had he said?

Fuck you. Or maybe thank you? But that made no sense.

Not with this, a laser-misled oblivion-to-be.

He knew he'd killed him before his body hit the ground.

Now, Epilear had killed before. That was just what happened when you lived out here on a rimworld. Even when raiders weren't a constant threat that required permanent solutions, sometimes things simply got out of hand.

This wasn't even his first time gunning down a fellow colonist.

It was just the first time he felt that odd tickle of prescience, like the echo of a whisper murmuring: "I know you."

The shot went wide.

It was an accident.

It wasn't his fault.

But there was something smug and familiar and ecstatic in René's eyes before they winked out for good. Epilear felt it, and it was sickening.

our tragic handsome regal polite wise gentlemanly chivalrous dragon-prince of gentle guidance with a charming sense of humor who understands his place in the cycle and takes it with grace despite having so much taken from him and being so exhausted and ancient that no one is sure if his name really is a name at all. and he loves you so much and wants you to succeed so badly, not out of a selfish wish to be free but instead because you two share a bond like no other, and will build you up yet maintain an air of untouchableness so when you do finally face him you feel like you're actually doing something unbelievable while also trying to lessen the pain of the loss of your cosmic bond by not letting you two get too close despite being the only ones who can truly understand the position the other is in. and yet is still a force of nature and lets that be shown, with potent tact that leaves you quaking in your boots and/or swooning and weak in the knees.

VS their violent visceral boyish brutal villainous hollow part-in-a-play delinquent rapscallion prisoner who thrives off of grotesque displays of power, with no name or sense of identity at all besides being the great evil you must defeat, who's so tired of his job he bullies you when you don't kill him good enough and also takes other dragons' lunch money (and "killing" him feels so hollow and meaningless and typical and boring and fruitless. because it is) (but also he still loves you profoundly despite the unnatural brevity of your time together. he knows a bond is supposed to exist that you were both robbed of and he feels that and he still loves you and wants you to succeed after you grant him a true death and tries to protect you all that he can from malevolent higher powers in his last moments. you're in this together. break the chains that bind you both with the blessings whispered with his final breath as the wind under your sails.)

I can't stop thinking about how you can own a house in dd2 and sleep for free in it, the 2 hired pawns won't come in, but your own pawn lives in it and smiles at you when you wake up, there's 1 bed; and I keep making up little small stories of respite for the arisen and pawn. This is a world that is relentless to the arisen: you cannot run from it, you cannot escape it, you must reckon with the dragon's dogma; become the dragon or become chakravartin. But you are allowed the very brief mercy of owning a home and sleeping in it. you too, human, once. Just fell to my knees.
