Both her mother and her aunt managed to marry above their rank. What made Marley’s aunt grateful and aware of social injustices made her mother arrogant and snobbish.
Marley is the eldest of 9 children, all of which are girls beside her one brother, Caspar Hugo Louis. Caspar, though second-born, was the family’s pride and the future duke, until he had an accident at the age of six. During riding lessons, Caspar’s horse had bucked him off and trampled over him, leaving the boy with a broken arm and finger and a kick to the head. However, while the bones were healing seamlessly and the boy even started to recover most of his memories from the day, the trauma to his head started to show its long-term effects. Caspar was haunted by attacks of nervousness and fury and was easily exhausted, his poor long-term memory caused learning difficulties, but it did not matter how many tutors spent their time trying to help Caspar patiently, no one was able to help with his speech impediment.
Five of Marley’s younger sisters are considerably younger than her as her parents only started trying for more children – hoping for another son – after the accident and after it became clear that Caspar would not be suitable as an heir. However, they were not blessed with another son.
Although the family would never accept Marley as an heir in Caspar’s place, their father put all his hopes in her. Supporting her in every way possible, hoping that she would produce a suitable heir before his own death and the family’s property and titles would go to his younger brother.
Nevertheless, Marley’s father never forced her to hurry into marriage. Instead, he made sure that Marley would be at the very least equipped to take over his business that was not included in the family’s heritage. In his younger years, Marley’s father had started a trading company for fabrics and textiles, working together with renowned designers as well as embroidery and sewing workshops. This is also the origin of Marley’s love for clothing.
Marley’s trip to London had been primarily business oriented. In the end, she returned home with her future wife Luna. – No, Marley’s mother does not approve, but she had to accept her daughter’s choices. Her husband told her to. Yes, her father is okay with whatever makes his angel happy. Yes, he would love to see them reproduce. – “No, father. I’m not pregnant yet.”
Marley and Luna are happily married and are living in London as it is a hub for everything vogue and couture. Marley being at a center point helps her family’s business.
