Arkin strolled down the streets of the city, weaving in and out of the crowd without being touched. The pockets of their jacket were filling up fast, cash, jewelry, sunglasses; and junk like receipts, keychains, chapsticks. Anything Arkin could get their nimble little fingers on.

Ahead of them was a large Sith with what looked like something important and /shiny/ in their pocket. Quick as a flash Arkin reached into the pocket.

Vachir hadn’t really been paying attention to the crowd, more focused on finding a small gift for Etana as an apology for being with the fleet for so long.

A warning pricked the back of her neck. The Force telling her someone was getting far to close to her.

A rustle in her pocket.

She reaches back without thinking, gripping a small wrist.

“You’d better have a good reason–”

Arkin had tried to pull back when a very large hand wrapped around their wrist and they couldn’t help the startled shout that came from their mouth. They only gave one tug before giving up, there was no getting out of this one.

The young sith looked up to a familiar face. Arkin raced to place her in their mind. It was, “Lord Wrath! I apologize! I- I wouldn’t have- I didnt-” Arkin stumbled over themself, trying to find a way to talk themself out of this. They couldn’t think of anything and they were pretty sure this is how they were going to die.

Vachir narrowed her eyes, glancing at their pockets. Slightly bulging from what was sure to be stolen goods.

Just what was a pureblood child doing pickpocketing like some Nar Shaddaa street rat?

“And what house do you belong to?” She asked. “Haven’t your parents ever taught you stealing is wrong?”

For once in their life Arkin held their tongue, keeping back every smart remark and sarcastic answer. Their eyes narrowed and they tried to twist their arm out of the Wraths grip.

“My father’s name is Saraven. House Khosât.” As they said their family name Arkin stopped struggling and dared to look Vachir in the eyes again. But they couldn’t hold her gaze for long. Arkin’s eyes flitted away and they scuffed the sole of their shoe on the ground.

“Really?” Vachir said. “That’s a rather impressive claim. I wasn’t aware Lord Saraven had a child.”

She didn’t sense that the child was laying but then again, it was a rather inexact thing.

“Still, I wasn’t aware that Saraven was so deep in debt. Surely that’s the only reason a child from that house is pickpocketing Sith Lords in the market place, hmm?”

Arkin snorted, “You aren’t the only one. I’m not exactly someone he’s proud of.” There was a bitter self awareness in their voice of someone who had given their all and still fallen short of impossible expectations. “Anyway, it’s not like he would care if you told him.”

“Really?” She said, disapproval coloring her tone. “Not a very attentive father, I take it?”

Arkin knew they probably shouldn’t be talking about this so transparently… But honestly they didn’t care. They rubbed their wrist and scowled up at Vachir, believing her disapproval was directed at them.

“No. I’m more an unwanted pet than anything; ‘I couldn’t even bargain with you in an alliance.’” Arkin said the last part with a sneer, standing straight and looking down at nothing.

Vachir briefly wondered what Etana would say if she simply brought the child home today. They certainly had enough room with their oldests moving out…

“He’s deluding himself,” she said, absentmindedly. “Everyone knows the child isn’t what’s important in an alliance. Do know I’m already getting offers for my cathar daughter? So unless you’ve managed to earn the ire of a Dark Councilors, I’m sure the blame rests on your father.”
