When in Rome

After our school trip came to an end it was time for my vacation. I was thrilled to go back once again to the city of Rome, with some of the girls I call my best friends. Tayla, Arianna, Becca and myself traveled by train and arrived at the Roma Termini station. There we met Dimitri, Tayla’s cousin who helped us travel our ridiculous amount of suitcases to the Piazza Navona where our hotel was located.

I have to say that the roman architecture is spectacular. It is incredible to know how many years ago many of these historical structures were built. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to once again see these monuments since it’s my second time around in Rome. Even though it was a vacation there was many places to be explored. From the Pantheon to the Spanish Steps and the Coliseum to the Vatican City we saw it all. I have to say it was very disappointing to see the Trevi Fountain empty due to restoration.

   Even miles away we got to celebrate the 4th of July at a boat party and just when we couldn’t take our paleness anymore we headed to Sperlonga Beach for the day. We could not leave the beautiful city of Rome without admiring the Sistine Chapel and the Piazza San Pietro.

A Great Experience

It makes me sad to think that the trip came to an end. It feels like yesterday that we had just arrived in the city of Milan to start our study abroad program. It was an amazing experience living in Milan and Florence for the past month. I am exited to say that I not only learned many things about the Italian culture and fashion but also about myself. I realized how interested and drawn I am to the public relations and communications side of the fashion industry. I enjoyed my time with amazing people I now call my friends and will forever treasure the memories we made.

Missing Home

I have always liked visiting aquariums but never really knew why. In many of them you can find creatures you might never have seen before. I was lucky enough to grow up in Puerto Rico, with beautiful beaches. Looking at the tanks inside the Acquario Civico, I realized why I love aquariums. They remind me of the times I would go fishing and snorkeling with my dad, my hero, my inspiration. Words cannot describe how much I miss him and how lucky I am to have him as my dad. Many things on this trip have reminded me of him and many things he taught me definitely come in handy while traveling.

No Subtitles

Knowing Spanish has been a great advantage on my journey through Italy.  Arianna, Becca, Lisa, Tayla and I went to The Space Cinema Odeon Movie Theater. There were no subtitles for the movie Big Wedding, yet I could understand and follow the movie pretty well. We all enjoyed a relaxing night emerging ourselves in the Italian culture by listening to the language for the entire movie. I cannot wait to now watch the movie in English and notice the different in the choice of words!

Art vs. Fashion VII

A woman can never have enough shoes. I had never thought of it before but shoe designers can also find their inspiration in the architecture that surrounds them. Strolling down the streets of Milan I came across the Palazzo Durini-Caproni di Taliedo. The doors of the palace might have been the inspiration for Charlotte Olympia’s Shoe Fall 2014 Collection. “One of a kind” is perfect to describe the style of her collection. Both doors of the palace have a circular designs repeated 3 times, which are similar to the design of the shoe.

Art vs. Fashion VI

Beautiful frescos covered the entire church in Milan named Chiesa di son Maurizio al Monestro Maggiore. Something else caught my attention, the colossal organ. I stared directly at the designs placed on top of the flutes. It was amazing to see the detailing and at the same time still see what lay underneath. The Dolce and Gabbana Men’s Fall 2014 Collection had an outfit in which the audience could see a similar form of pattern that was found on top of the organ’s flutes. The pictures below reflect the similarity in the resemblance between the organ and the Dolce and Gabbana design.

A Great Surprise

I was exited and anxious for my group presentation last Tuesday (6/24/14). Once we arrived at the Pink and Chic office, I felt ready to present our marketing plan to Mauro Gasperi. 

Eight of the students (2 groups that presented) waited for Mauro to make the final decision. I was filled with excitement when Mauro announced that our group had won! 

The even bigger surprise was finding out that I had been chosen out of all the students for a job opportunity with Mauro Gasperi. I signed a contract agreeing that I would be working with him in NYC in the near future! Words cannot describe how exited I am to be blessed with this amazing opportunity.
