The Past.

Robb was adopted by Eddard and Catelyn Stark at the age of 5, along with his infant biological sister, Sansa. He has very few memories from before the adoption, and considers Ned and Cat to be entirely his parents and all his siblings to be as much his siblings as Sansa is.

There was never a question of what Robb would be when he grew up. A century of Starks had gone into real estate, and that didn’t change when his Undle Brandon diversified the business. He would go to school as long as required, get into real estate, and then when he was needed and had found his niche, he’d be initiated. Ned did his best to shield his son from the more unsavory parts of that plan while he was young, but Robb knew he would be in the family business all the same. 

He took his school years as his chance to be what he wanted to. As long as he didn’t get into trouble, as long as he upheld the family name, he had that freedom. He was always involved in a half-dozen different activities, ranging from sports to scouts to a year of debate in high school. He made friends easily, charming his way through without really belonging to a particular clique. He got into the college he wanted, using it as an opportunity to milk another four years before he had to be a proper adult. But as his grades started coming in, he started getting offers to do more than he expected. Internships, research opportunities. He was smart, and capable to boot. Everyone around him seemed to be asking why he was throwing away that talent when money for graduate school wasn’t even a problem.

He spent the summer he turned 20 working in the business as usual, but he watched more carefully, seeing where he could improve things. The bribes were what had him thinking the hardest. He did research, and started finding small ways to get around fines, ways to stick to the letter of the law and still get what they needed done. There were so many things they would be able to do so much more efficiently if they had a lawyer who knew all the dark business the family hid. When he came back in the fall, he changed majors to pre-law and started looking at internships. He graduated with honors, passed the bar, and was initiated into the House all in the same month. For the first time, he felt real pride in his accomplishments. Between him leading the legal side of things and Sansa on financials, the next generation was quickly bringing House Stark more money and reputation than ever before. Taking over as General when his uncle retired felt natural and earned, although he is still adjusting to the change in responsibility.

Connections.

Turnabout -- A rival lawyer that he constantly comes in conflict with. Perhaps someone he went to school with, or perhaps someone that’s just determined to undermine the Stark name.

Lovers -- (Past/current) Robb has always been open to flings and hookups, as long as things don’t get too serious. Looking for some of these, and maybe for someone to actually tame the wolf and get him to settle into something longer-term.

Schoolmates -- Would love to have either some people that Robb went to school/undergrad with meet him again now. Bonus points if they thought he was an entitled douche back then. Bonus bonus points if they still think he’s an entitled douche, just one with a dream.

“ uh, i can find a lawyer. i’m a charming young lady. anyone would be happy to do lawyer things for me. ” what do lawyers even do other than say ‘your honor’ and ‘i object’? from what she knows with robb, she finds it all to be incredibly boring. arya winched at his reaction to the thump — never meaning to cause harm to her older brother. “ sorry sorry! does it still hurt a lot? got the good meds for it? ”

arya was ready for a remark — mostly to say something about how bran probably wouldn’t be able to last two seconds in the hospital without driving everyone crazy. ya’know, typical older sibling stuff to make fun of their younger sibling who isn’t even around to defend themselves. but the nurse interrupted and well, arya just went back down to her phone. tuning out the legal jargon and just waiting for them to be finally released from hell. thankfully, it didn’t seem to take a dramatic amount of time.

she led them out where she parked, ready to hop on out of here. “ i mean, physically? totally fine. those suckers were no match with me — and lorra of course. and maybe theon. but like maybe. ” nevermind the fact that the other saved their father’s life — something she still has to thank him for, and something she dreads doing because that means being nice to theon. “ i’m just glad we made it out alive. ” unlike their aunt and baelish.

Robb just rolled his eyes at the question of what lawyers did. As if she didn’t witness him studying for two years. Hopefully, she’d never need to witness him in court. He quickly gave her a smile to comfort her. “I’m fine. Not even bad enough for the good shit. But my skull is cracked, so it is literally a broken bone.” That should give her enough to understand that he was fine as long as she didn’t mess with his head.

He wrapped an arm around Arya’s shoulders as they walked, both because the touch was grounding and because he was still a little lightheaded. He listened and nodded along as she spoke. “Even if you could have handled it yourself, I’m glad they were with you. I’m glad we all made it out alive. But no, I didn’t mean physically.” They entered an elevator, fortunately alone. “Even I’m a bit shaken up by something that...big. I can only imagine what it’s like to have seen it and not already be sort of used to violence.”

“Yeah, only if you get it from someone actually breaking your nose for you.  Otherwise you’re just a dorky klutz.”  Her words were said with an absolute tone, as if she was inherently right (because in her mind she was, and there was no room for debate).  “I mean c’mon, let’s say you can even pull off that rugged, crooked nose thing.  You’re flirting with someone and they’re like ‘oooh where’d you get that from’, what sounds better?  You saying how you got it fighting off an attack or in a bar fight or something, or saying you fell on your own face?” Saying the situation out loud again only served to make Dacey chuckle.  It sucked that he was in here, and what she assumed in at least a modicum of pain, but she still found the entire thing fairly hilarious.  And in these times, she’d take her laughs where she could get them.

She listened as he mused about the information she had given, and as she spoke, her own mind started spinning.  “I think that leaves one of two options; either the Lannisters and Greyjoys are being framed or they’re declaring an all out war, so why would they care if they were being discreet?”  The thought of the latter did rattle her a bit.  While she would be steadfast in anything that was to come, the thought of such a brazen attack as a declaration of war that would definitely have worse events to follow was a scary thought.  “Eh, I don’t know about that.  Maybe being injured and being in this neutral zone is the safest place to be.” She responded with a shrug, lifting her feet off the bed and letting them hit the floor, the talk of everything making her feel less at ease and more paranoid.  “Granted I’ve never had a cracked skull, that I know of at least–” with the types of knocks she had taken over the last 7 years the possibility was definitely there, and Dacey had just been too stupid to get it treated “–But my guess is maybe another 24-48?  Just to make sure your brain isn’t about to go wildin’ out.”

“I was attacked, technically. Not what you mean, but still.” Robb tilted his head, thinking. “Not sure the bar fight aesthetic is really what I’m going for regardless. And I’m not sure I’ll end up with a crooked nose. I woke up with this thing on.” He tapped the splint on his nose. But there were more important things to worry and talk about than his nose.

He had to lean back against the pillows heavily at the idea that this might be an all-out war. It couldn’t be. Wars didn’t just happen. No, this was something else. He would stay focused on it being something else. “You’d know if you’d cracked your skull before. It’s not a mistakable injury.” Two days, though. that was potentially a lot of time he’d be out of commission. While he knew he could rely on his father and aunt to handle things, already his mind was swimming with all the things he could be getting done if he wasn’t in a hospital. Or maybe it was just swimming. “I can start with questioning Theon, at least. Maybe not as thoroughly as others might like. Hell, maybe I won’t get anything out of him on the Greyjoy side of things. I have a gut feeling they didn’t tell him anything at all. At the very least, though, I can get an idea of what the coverup is looking like from the police perspective.”

It would have been a lie if she’d tried to claim that her sister’s death hadn’t affected her when even if their relationship had shifted into something complicated in recent years, Lysa was still her sister. They had been so close growing up and Catelyn knew that she would always look upon those memories fondly, even if they were now tinged with something more bittersweet. But there would be time for her to mourn and reminisce later, in private and away from watchful eyes that always searched for some sort of weakness. Besides, there were more pressing matters that needed her attention such as ensuring that all her children were safe and well.

Even though she knew that her son was receiving the very best treatment ( something she had made sure of the night before with a thinly veiled threat to one of the nurses ) she had been unable to stay away for very long. Smile touched her lips in undisguised fondness at the spiel that he rolled out. “Good, your eyesight seems to be just fine.” Dry words rolled off her tongue as she made her way to his bedside, immediately starting to straighten out whatever she could around him. “How are you feeling? And I don’t want the rehearsed version.” Despite the stern nature of her voice that left little room for argument, it was filled with the warmth she reserved solely for those who shared her name.

“Mom,” Robb sighed softly, his shoulders slumping. He submitted to her fussing, letting her fix his hair and straighten the way his hospital gown was sitting on him. “I’m...hm.” He actually stopped and assessed, thinking through his state. “I’m...doing as well as I can be. A bit sore, but that’s pretty good for a broken nose and a cracked skull.” He figured that was the best way to run through his injuries, all things considered. 

He glanced away to think for a moment. “My memory’s improving. I remember almost nothing between the lights being cut and waking up here. They say I was in and out of consciousness and wouldn’t know where I was when I woke up. But I’ve gotten past that. Gotten to the point of having practically memorized their little memory test, as you saw. I should be able to get out of here in the next day or so.” He took her hand and squeezed it lightly, doing his best to give her a soft smile. “How are you?”

arya tossed the chart onto the bed near robb’s feet. all of it was boring anyways. “ maybe we should sue the hospital for telling such baseless lies? also, rude. i’m suing you for calling me a kid when i’m, in fact, twenty-three. thank you very much. ” funny how she can easily flip that card around in a blink of an eye. getting out of something? she’s a child, can’t do it. but when someone else calls her a kid? too far. a light smile tugged on her lips when robb pulled her in for a hug. “ please, we all know i’m a delight to see always. ” 

the moment he pulled away, arya moved to flick him on his forehead. what can she say? it’s the ultimate sibling move. sure, he might be injured but that doesn’t mean she’s not going to add to the injuries — even if a flick doesn’t do much. “ are you telling me you don’t want to walk out of here in a hospital gown? ” as she said that, arya tossed the small bag she brought of some clothes and sat on the bed as he went to get change, pulling out her phone. her gaze moved to the door of the hospital room — wondering how neutral the hospital actually is. “ yeah. yup. everyone is fine. surprisingly, you were the only one knocked out. ”  does he know about lyra and baelish? she thought he did but if not — telling him in the car would be better.

“Mm. You and what lawyer? I think I could beat anyone you could hire for such a silly suit. After all, no judge would convict slander for calling you a kid once they see your skinny ass.” He grinned into her shoulder and then pulled back. He winced visibly at the thump. It didn’t hurt that much, but his head was generally sore. “Ow. Careful, my brain is delicate right now.”

He changed and came back out quickly, feeling much more human now that he was in his own clothes. He still looked a mess, but at least he was better than he was. “That’s a relief. Not sure the hospital could handle the strain of multiple Starks needing treatment.” He sat back down on the bed. He opened his mouth to push for more information, but the next knock on the door actually was a nurse. She had discharge papers, but first, she had to look him over once more and test his memory. His memory was fine. He winced as she took the bandage off his head. He was no longer bleeding, so he didn’t need the bandage, but the release of pressure was an uncomfortable feeling. He was given a prescription for antibiotics and a high-dose acetaminophen, and dismissed.

He put his arm around Arya as they walked out. “It’s good you’re not hurt, but how are you doing, Arya? It was…a lot, based on what I’ve heard.”

“Gods, only you would get that fucked up by just falling on your face.” She chuckled.  But she was glad that he hadn’t had to endure much violence to get that face.  Many had endured far worse, so despite him being in the hospital while others were not, it felt like he might have gotten off easy, in some ways.  She’d rather be knocked out and awoken in a hospital than shot like Rhaenys or had her throat slit but somehow managed to survive like Robert.  

She hadn’t seen Ned since the gathering, but she figured he was off taking care of trying to keep the Wolf Kings out of a war, and trying to figure out exactly what happened and why.  But it was still odd to receive orders from a person Dacey didn’t even know.  The woman seemed to know what she was doing, and Dacey wasn’t one to break ranks, but it still felt odd.  She hadn’t even been introduced to her.  Of course she knew who the infamous Lyanna Stark was, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t a disconcerting feeling.  “Well, it’s not exactly like the news is going to report on a possible full out war between the families.  Hell, they don’t even know all the families.”  King’s Landing was very much a city of shadows.  You knew they were there, but they remained unidentifiable.  And even if you knew it was there, you didn’t acknowledge it.  This rang especially true to the civilians and higher ups that were on the straight and narrow and had no syndicate connections.  They knew the syndicates really ran the city, they knew they made the world go ‘round, but it was best not to acknowledge them.  So it was no surprise to Dacey when a coverup was quickly put into place and the real events of the evening were swept under the rug.

“Who didn’t make it out?  Phew, well, that’s a long list.” She thought for a moment, her own head a bit fuzzy from the knocks it had taken, despite having just been told of the major fatalities herself in a debriefing before heading to the hospital .  “–Petyr and Lysa, obviously.  Balon Greyjoy, Alerie Tyrell, Obara and Obella Sand.  And Trystane Martell is gone, no body but they can’t find him.  Your dad and Robert were obviously supposed to have been on that list, but they failed in that aspect, thankfully.”  Granted, she didn’t give a fuck about Robert, but if listing Ned’s name next to his meant ‘survivor’ than she was glad.  “Tyrells and Greyjoys.  Or someone wanting us to think so, bodies were covered in squid ink and gold leaf.  If it really was them, a bit heavy handed if you ask me.”

“Mocking me for my pain. That’s low, Dace. And I could have sworn I heard you say at some point that broken noses build character.” Robb nudged he foot with his, a halfhearted attempt at retaliation. He gave her a doubtful look for the statement that the media didn’t know all the families. The general public might not, maybe even the reporters might not, but the networks definitely knew. The Arryns didn’t run it for nothing. Though with the Arryn family so crippled, who knew whether any of the contacts that the media had through them were still active. So he just listened.

He closed his eyes to take note of all the names, his head spinning a bit. He made a note to send out condolences. If this did turn to war, they’d need allies, and fast. “It does sound heavy-handed. Leaving a Lannister calling card and not attacking any Lannisters? Same with the Greyjoys, since I wouldn’t put it past them to kill their own leader. But…it’s sloppy, too. So many Martells taken out. No Targaryens either. And what were Lysa and Petyr doing in all this? Why get married just to kill themselves? There’s just…not a pattern that lines up with alliances.” He sighed as he opened his eyes to stare up at the ceiling. “I suppose right now we should just be grateful, hm? Be happy that we’re not too injured. It’s all I can do right now, I think. I don’t know when they’re going to let me out of here.”

She couldn’t help but roll her eyes at his antics, reminding her much of the same motion she had done to his little sister at the gathering only hours ago.  These Stark kids, honest to Gods.  Despite only being a bit older than him, and him being superior to her in the syndicate, Dacey still felt a certain level of protectiveness over him.  She was a natural protector, a bit like her pit bull in a way, ready to jump in front of whatever possible harm she thought she detected.  She had been a bit like a stray when she first showed up in King’s Landing, especially after being attacked, and the Starks and Wolf Kings took her in, earning that loyalty and protection from her.

“I always look better than you, Robb, busted lip or no.”  She said with a shrug, her words firm and stated as a fact, but still accompanied by a small smile, despite it making her lip sting.  She touched it with light, prodding fingers, and made note to try and figure out if the attacker who had given it had been one of the ones taken out in a body bag.  If not, she’d add him to a list of those who she had the intention of making sure they saw the inside of one.  

The guilty grimace on her face probably gave Robb the answer to his first question before she spoke.  “It can be both, can’t it?” She asked, finally removing herself from the doorjam and making her way to one of the chairs bedside.  She quickly made herself comfortable, an immediate slouch overcoming her form before she kicked her feet up on the end of the hospital bed, heels barely hitting the corner.  “Well, the fact they left you with a busted skull and face rather than a slit throat like a lot of the others is probably a good sign but….Well your aunt’s a hard ass and didn’t want to take any chances, so, here I am.  Probably for the best too.  They were trying to take out high ranking family members, or those close to them.  Which is lucky for you, because now you get to bathe in my presence for a couple hours.”

Robb was happy to see her get comfortable, at least. It meant that she wasn’t worried, so he didn’t need to be worried. The image of slit throats made his stomach turn. Whether by bleeding out or suffocating on your own blood, it was a shitty way to go. It was easier to joke while he figured out what to say. “The face is my fault. Sort of. Based on the x ray of my nose and how they found me, it seems like I just fell forward on my face. So yeah, they probably just wanted to keep me from getting in the way.” 

He glanced away and licked his lips. He was a bit on edge at the idea that his aunt was giving orders rather than his father, but he didn’t know how to ask. His eyes settled on the TV, where the news was playing the helicopter clip of flashing emergency lights lighting up the street. “The news is fucking useless. They’re just talking about the blackout and Robert Baratheon being here in the hospital, but that’s it. Vague numbers for everything else. I don’t have any memories between the lights going out and waking up here.” He rubbed the back of his neck.

“I suppose my first question has to be who didn’t make it out?” He finally met Dacey’s eyes again. “And do we know who was behind this? Petyr and Aunt Lysa had to at least know something was going to happen.”

“Pretty sure just memorizing the answers to the quiz defeats the purpose, Robb.” Dacey commented, leaning against the doorjam.  “I think the whole point is you actually have to know these things.  Long term versus short term memory and all that.”  She had been in the hospital with enough concussions to have picked up at least that (but apparently not the knowledge that she should stop putting herself in situations that ended with her getting a concussion).  

Dacey herself had only gotten knocked around a bit; had a hell of a shiner, a busted lip, and some cuts here and there, but nothing that needed more than some topical care.  And with both Robb and Ned recovering from near misses and their injuries, Dacey had been quickly introduced to her new brigadier, Lyanna.  The woman had taken control of the situation impressingly fast, having set up a schedule of security around the two highest ranking syndicate members by the time they had been taken to the hospital, and Dacey was up first.  Although, to be fair she probably would have stopped by on her own.

“Now question is, do you feel as shitty as you look?”

“I’m pretty sure it doesn’t. Memorizing the answers does still mean I know them. Either way, it’s an improvement from asking them where I am every ten minutes, which is how I was initially.” Robb gave her a shit-eating grin that quickly turned into something softer. It felt really good to see a familiar face. He pushed himself up to be fully sitting, adjusting the bed as he did.

“Hm. I feel like I got clocked over the head with something and then broke my nose falling on my face. So yeah, probably. I’ll be sure to ask for another dose of pain meds next time a nurse actually does come by, though I’m trying to limit that so they send me home quicker. But discounting the hospital bed, you look at least as shitty as I do, Dace.” Dacey’s injuries were about what he expected. Of course the woman had jumped into the action. Whatever action had occurred, anyway. He still wasn’t entirely clear on what had gone down, only that it was an attack.

His smile flickered down a bit as it clicked in his head why Dacey was the first person he’d seen. “This a personal visit, or are you on guard duty?” He only needed her reaction to tell, so he continued. “Do we have reason to believe that I was even a target, let along that they’ll come try to finish me off?”

RETURNING HOME TO REST should have been his priority following the previous evening’s catastrophic events. theon felt exhausted both physically and mentally from the chaos and conversations afterwards. yet , it took little time for the detective to hear about the ambulances leaving the scene for north wall memorial hospital. perhaps the young man would have paid little attention to this news , but he also learned one of those ambulances carried robb stark. consequently , theon altered his course to check in on his friend at the hospital. the lobby seemed even more mobbed than usual , yet the detective managed to weasel his way onto the proper floor with a flash of his brilliantly gold police badge. subsequently , he successfully learned which room held his friend , the second to the man theon greyjoy just happened to save when the wedding took a disastrous turn.

he swaggered into the room with a lighthearted expression. his dark eyes flickered over the other man quickly , and he quickly noted robb’s broken nose. “ well , you look like shit. ” theon remarked rather frankly , stepping further into the room and sliding into the empty visitor’s chair. “ no , i’m not the nurse , but i thought you’d be more excited to see me instead. ” he remarked with an arched brow and a light chuckle. “ how do you feel? are they treating you alright in here? ” the urge to bombard robb with questions seemed strong , but he managed to keep it at bay. focusing on robb’s condition felt easier than addressing the severe loss and confusion he was dealing with.

“I feel like I got hit over the head and then broke my nose falling on my stupid face. So about how I look, I imagine. ‘Like shit’.” Robb’s eyes were rimmed in purple bruises from the break, a splint taped to his nose. There was a bandage wrapped around his head to keep a stack of gauze pressed against a spot on the left side of his head. “But they’re treating me alright, yeah. Not letting me sleep, but apparently that’s just a concussion thing. They have to wake me up every hour or so and go through the questions to make sure my memory’s in place. It wasn’t, when I got here.”

He glanced up at the TV, where the news was still showing video from last night of the building lit up with flashing emergency vehicle lights. Finally, he sighed and indicated the chair next to the bed with a tilt of his head. “What the fuck happened? I’ve got literally no memory in between the lights going out and waking up here, if I was even conscious at all between those times. They’re saying on the news that people died?”

bored in the house, in the house bored. honestly, she was just glad she wasn’t forced to spend the night at the hospital because that would have been way worse. but that didn’t stop the utter boredom. when people were deciding on who was going to pick up robb, arya jumped at the chance. anything to get out of the house — anything to annoy the living crap out of her older brother. honestly, she’s basically his savior right now and she’s going to make sure he knows it.

a smirk crossed her face once she realized that robb didn’t have a clue who it was that just entered. rambling off with information as if she didn’t already know — okay, maybe she didn’t fully know his birthday but like, she would have been awfully close. “ mmm, robb stark you say? i’m nurse jimmy. ” sure, she’s very aware that he could see her at this point but hey, arya was here to fuck around. she snagged his chart from the end of the table, looking through it as if she knew what it said — it was gibberish. “ hmmm. looks like you are going to have to be stuck here for a few more days, mr. stark. such a shame. ”

Robb just watched her, an amused smirk on his face and relief filling his chest. He was going home. “Really? That’s odd, the last nurse told me just the opposite, that they’d called my family and they were sending someone to take me home. I was expecting my punk kid sister to show up any time now.” Dopping the act, he caught her by the wrist when she was close enough and pulled her into a hug. It wasn’t as firm as his normal hugs, but it was warm and he pressed his cheek to the side of her head. “Never thought I’d say this about you, Arya, but you’re a sight for sore eyes. Literally, in this case.”

He pulled back and grinned, only highlighting the two black eyes his broken nose had given him. There was a splint taped in place to keep his nose straight, and a bandage wrapped around his head. Otherwise, he looked fine. He sounded fine. “I assume they had you bring me some clothes? Everything I had on last night is...unsalvagable.” Covered in blood he wasn’t sure was his was more accurate, but not something he was going to say. He accepted the clothes from her and disappeared into the bathroom briefly to change. “Everyone alright? They couldn’t tell me anything other than that nobody else in my family was taken to the hospital.”

Where: Robb’s Apartment, near Winterfell When: Afternoon after the wedding For: Jon ( @iiceandfire )

Most of the last day was a blur. The lights had gone out, he’d felt a flash of pain, and his next clear memory was in the hospital in the early hours of the morning. The nurses said he’d been conscious since the ambulance took him, but in and out of sleep with seemingly no memory in between. He had flashes, as if dreams, but nothing he could hold on to. With ice and pain medication and rest, it improved to the point that they allowed him to head after lunch with the advice of getting a follow-up on the concussion in a week. 

The first thing he’d done upon getting to his apartment was get his phone charging. He considered who to contact first while he fed Greywind and took a shower. Rather than trying to piece together more information as he’d intended, he texted Jon. “Pizza at my place tonight? Just us and the dogs.” They both needed it. He didn’t necessarily know how Jon was reacting to all the violence, but it couldn’t be good. He didn’t bother to wait for an answer, going ahead and scheduling the order and making the living room comfortable while he waited.

Where: North Wall Memorial Hospital When: Post-wedding, mid-morning Who: Open to all

Getting knocked out was not at all like the movies, Robb had quickly discovered. Being unconscious more than a few minutes meant that he was taken by ambulance to the hospital along with the other critically injured. He had only vague snatches of memories, but it was improving. He wasn’t asking the nurses where he was every time he was woken anymore. He was able to focus on the TV mounted on the wall without his vision swimming. His external injuries weren’t that bad, comparitively, just a cracked skill and a broken nose. He was being assured that with this kind of progress, he should be able to head home sometime today.

So, he just laid there and dealt with it. He had the news on to try to piece together what had happened between the blackout and waking up in the ambulance, but he wasn’t having much success. His phone was dead, so that was right out. So for now, he just closed his eyes and rested. When he heard the door to the room open, he didn’t even bother to open his eyes, just starting to recite the answers to the memory test he assumed a nurse was here to administer again. “Robb Stark, date of birth March 25th of 1991, I’m at North Wall Memorial Hospital in King’s Landing, which is where I live...” He paused and opened his eyes. “Well. You’re not my usual nurse.”
