Am I still welcome in the aro community if my lack of romantic attraction is possibly caused by me being autistic...?

yes, absolutely! cause of being aromantic is irrelevant in regards to being included in the community and the only ones who wouldn’t include you are people you wouldn’t want to talk to anyway.

i’m also autistic and i’m pretty sure that’s why I have such a hard time distinguishing between romantic and platonic attraction, as well as aesthetic, sensual, and sexual. My being autistic doesn’t make those things any less valid.

i'm aro and probably ace and i really need some positivity rn bc i accidentally read a blog about how aros and aces dont belong in the lgbtqa+ community and how they don't want us and now i feel really shit bc i dont know where i belong any more and it's an awful feeling

well that person’s honestly just being a massive jerk because you definitely belong in the LGBTQIA+ community, a long with all other aces and aros. The A stands for aromantic and asexual spectrums and anyone who says otherwise is just wrong. The only reason LGBTQIA+ clubs sometimes say it’s ally is either a deep misunderstanding of “allies aren’t oppressed”, or to let closeted LGBTQIA+ folk come in without outing themselves.

if they say you need to be “sga” (same-gender attracted), that’s 100% bullshit. They’re kicking out aros and aces, bi people who are attracted to 2 or more genders but not their own, straight trans people, basically every nonbinary person, any straight intersex person (who would consider themselves LGBTQIA+ in the first place), etc...

Okay so I'm wondering if I can identify as greyromantic or if there's another word I should use instead? I get plenty of crushes, probably the average amount, but the grey part for me is that my crushes are always in the grey area between platonic and romantic. Like, sometimes I'm convinced they're at least somewhat romantic, but sometimes I'll think about the same exact crush and be like 'nah that's completely platonic'

That sounds a lot like quoiromantic/wtfromantic! It’s the inability to or extreme difficulty with telling the difference between romantic and platonic attraction! It’s definitely still arospec and is (I believe) considered a form of greyromantic.

Hello! Recently, I was surprised by the amount of people who come into our askbox asking about how to start a QPP with someone. Usually, the answer is “I don’t know! It depends on the person.” But this might help those of you that are shy and are not sure where to start. It can also serve as an ice-breaker.

If you’re aro/ace spectrum and identify with heterosexual or heteroromantic and want to call yourself straight because it’s simpler or seems to fit you better, that is okay. 

That said, if someone is not cisgender, hetero and allo sexual/romantic, they belong in the LGBTQ+ community and are not straight unless they want to call themselves that. Calling them straight or basically straight is invalidating and rude and arophobic and acephobic and generally a terrible thing to do.
