It's here! Chapter 1 of good neighbours for @aroyallybigbangrwrb is finally here!!!!!!

I am honestly so excited to be able to share this with everyone! There is some INCREDIBLE art from my insanely talented artist @izulkowa at the end of Chapter 1 as well! Hope you all like it! ❤️

Summary:

The day Henry moved into his new flat was truly a most excellent day. It was autumn in New York; the sun was shining brightly, there was not a single cloud in the sky and it felt like the whole city was out and about soaking up what was likely the last vestige of warmth from summer. The leaves on the trees at the park nearby were displaying a multitude of hues, all deep reds, vivid oranges and bright yellows, and this was the day he would begin his new life. Henry was finally getting the opportunity to establish himself in his own place, in a city he was ready to call his own, far away from his meddling family. An entire ocean between them felt like almost enough to feel comfortable living life the way he had wanted.

That was also the day that he first met his neighbour, Alex.

The man — Henry — laughs, a look of surprised delight brightening his features. “I’ve got to head in soon, Alex, but perhaps I can tell you when the show is over?” He holds out the cigarette like an offering, and Alex steps into his space and takes it, sliding his fingers along the back of Henry’s hand a touch longer than necessary. He searches Henry’s eyes for an answer to the bold questions burning on the tip of his tongue alongside the smoke. “I’d like that very much.” “Good.” Henry takes one more drag from the cigarette Alex is still holding, cool fingertips guiding Alex’s hand to his mouth with a light touch. “Let me take you back inside then. I’ll meet you right here after the encore.” Alex swallows hard. “Can’t wait.” // Alex is in his last year of grad school when he meets Henry, a keyboardist in a punk rock band with the look to match, and he begins to discover things about himself that he's been overlooking his whole life. Unfortunately, it seems as though Henry will be Alex's one that got away... unless fate has other ideas.

“Alright, so penis fencing is the-” Henry is going to die. “The-” Alex chokes back a laugh, brushing the curls back from his forehead. Henry just stares at his fingers, long and delicate. “The - it’s this mating-” Alex wheezes, snorting like the air’s trapped between his mouth and his lungs and he can’t do anything but keep rambling. “Hen? Any help?” “Er…” His voice nearly shakes, and he holds back the tide. “This is your domain.” “Mine?” “Yes, you’re the definition dude!” The words evaporate like rubbing alcohol and Henry thinks, Oh, god. Oh, god. Focus, he tells himself. He may have the shakes, anxiety teeming beneath his skin and he slept poorly last night, but he can take a swig of pure adrenaline and let go of that, can’t he? “Um…” Henry stutters.

Amongst the Orange Trees - Part 1/5

Hello, beautiful people! I'm happy to announce that the first part of my fic "Amongst the Orange Trees" is up on AO3! Thank you to @aroyallybigbangrwrb for organizing this wonderful event, to the one and only @pimvipart for the astonishing pieces of art (!!!) and to my beta-reader @england-would-fall (best editor out there).

Summary:

June 2023, Italy. Amongst the orange trees, Henry slowly finds his writer’s soul again. He has been feeling lonely for a while, meaninglessly pursuing a degree that was picked for him, shutting himself away from who he really is and what he really wants. In Pez’s family house on the Amalfi coast, time slows and he can breathe again. Yet, he still feels like something is missing to make him feel complete. Alex has run away. Asphyxiated by the pressure he has put on himself for years, running without a destination until his legs give way under the unbearable heaviness of his own expectations, he suddenly realizes that he doesn’t know who he is or why he is doing it all. He tries to find solace in the forms of salt water drying on his skin and endless blue washing away the harsh colors of the city. Yet, he still feels like something is missing to make him feel complete. As dawn washes ancient stones in a golden hue, two boys meet amongst the statues. As dusk sets on the cerulean sea, Alex and Henry find their way to each other’s souls.

Alex flings an arm out in the direction of Henry’s voice, managing to find fabric and fist a hand into Henry’s lapel. Henry squawks in a satisfyingly unroyal way when Alex yanks him forward and they slam bodily together in midair. He holds him close as they somersault through the blackness. Henry’s breath is warm along the side of Alex’s face.

“Oh, my,” Henry whispers when swirls of color begin to emerge from the dark around them. “How peculiar.”

The colors coalesce into shapes that should never be in a hospital closet. Instead of red EXIT signs or utility lighting, there are glowing toadstools and lightning bugs and, strangest of all, a white rabbit hopping down the tunnel as they fall.

...Or, the "Alice in Wonderland as an allegory for the closet" AU fandom needs :)
