[4000×2500] [Crosspost] Etymology of ‘window’
There’s a dialect of Neapolitan where the word for “window” is also “ventana”. Standard is “fenesta” with common simplification of the /str/ cluster; cf. Neap. nosta “our” f.s. < Lat. NOSTRA and It. nostra.
in Istria we say “ukno” “ponestra” and “prozor”
As a native speaker of Dutch, I’d much more frequently use the word ‘raam’
Arpitan is “fenīthra” [føni:θʀæ] so even though it’s not listed, the region is colored correctly!
