Esperanza (2015) is painting of large format in which predominates the gray color as an expressive element of sadness. From the lines and background texture and the signaling at the top left side of the painting with the inscription "Hope", it can be deduced that it is a wall of a street, which is metaphorically "wounded" because of three arrows nailed in the same. Wounds "bleed" so that spring touches of red that more noteworthy among the gray of the composition

Fantasy in Yellow lll, Mario Pikus

In 1985, Mario moved to Silverlake, Ca. It was here that Mario branched out from painted wood sculptures into a new art form that he innovated — “Harley-ism”. His unique chrome & metal sculptures are created from discarded motorcycle parts and flat rolls of sheet metal; some are raw chrome, others painted in bright, strong colors. Mario does not weld the pieces — they are bolted together to create a perfect balance of weight & form. The final sculptures are abstract versions of horses, musicians, dancers, female nudes & other persona. In 2002, Mario Pikus moved to Rancho Mirage, Ca, where he continued to paint large, bold, massively colorful paintings — as well as even larger sculptures in his sculpture garden. Recently with the donations of not only discarded motorcycle parts but also airplane parts, Mario has created his new “hybrid” sculptures. Mario Pikus’ art has evolved over the years from Classical to Cubism, Surrealism, Representational Expressionism, & Abstract Expressionism

The artwork is inspired by the poem “AFTER SADNESS” (Umberto Saba) This bread tastes of a memory, chewed in this poor tavern where the harbor is most littered and deserted. And I savor the beer’s bitterness, seated, on the way back home, facing the cloud-topped mountains and the lighthouse. My spirit, having vanquished one of its torments, observes with new eyes in the ancient evening a pilot with his pregnant wife, and a ship, its seasoned wood glistening in the sunset, its smokestack, as tall as the two masts, making a childish design that I made myself twenty years ago. Who could have told me then that my life would be so beautiful, with so many sweet concerns, and so much solitary bliss!
