Here I began to create an abstract painting using watercolours. As I began painting (wet on wet) I noticed that when I would move, so would the paints. I enjoyed how they bled in to each other but more specifically HOW they moved on the page. It was fluid, much like emotions, and as one colour touched another they would create a new colour, much like how when I’m feeling two different emotions at once they become a whole new emotion entirely.

Exploring body form and positions in order to convey certain emotions. Taking the pose presented by the Aquarius sign and incorporating it back into the emotional/colour psychology concept.

I am really interested in gemstones, crystals and star signs. Although I’m more likely to go with the colour/emotion idea I had to explore this concept to see what could come out of it. I like the last idea of overlaying imagery. I really like the ‘Amethyst at Heart’ idea. The use of waves represents the Aquarius being a water-related sign (although it’s an Air sign) The waves would be interesting to animate and an idea I will keep at the front of my mind.

History of Motion Design

Motion design is a discipline that applies graphic design to film making and video through the use of animation and visual effects.

Motion Graphics - pieces of digital footage/animation that create the illusion of motion, usually combined with audio for use in multimedia projects.

Kinetic Typography - technical name for moving text. Using motion and text to express ideas using video animation.

There is no universally accepted definition of motion graphics. There have been presentations that could be classified as motion graphics which date back to the 1800′s. One of the first uses of the term ‘motion graphics’ was by animator, John Whitney, who founded the company Motion Graphics Inc. in the 1960s.

Saul Bass is a major pioneer in the development of feature film’s title sequences. His portfolio includes title sequences for films such as Vertigo (1958), Anatomy of a Murder (1959) and, Psycho (1960)

Step by Step Process

Before going to sleep, I thought I’d try one more test run with the use of dots (influenced by Lichenstein) in the bird, just one section. This gives the bird movement without having illustrate the whole outline, making these dots will be lot easier with the use of a graphics tablet and after effects, too.

Very short, very quick test run. I’ll finish this off after I get some sleep. I’m going to look at old videos of days out tomorrow and I’d like to do something similar - but not as rough to the footage. One I know which idea i’m going ahead with I’ll create the storyboard and figure out how i’m going to convey the narrative.

I like the low quality of the images too, I added surface blur to the images in order to create this look. I really like the look of the clouds and quality of the grass. Both were brushes I created on photoshop.

I like this sort of illustration, I don’t know if I’ll use it as inspiration for anything but it’ll most likely influence one of my projects somehow.

!!!!!!!!

Today, after being given a new brief, Animated Persona, I went onto blackboard and looked at the learning materials that had been handed. I stumbled upon this video!!! This is very very similar to what I had imagined, but better! This is the sort of thing I would like to do, and with having learnt rotoscoping today and enjoying it I think using a video may work. I’m going home in 2 hours and I have a lot of old home videos to catch up on that my parents have recently found. This also goes with dealing with first hand and second hand observation as it was a video from the past, not a newly made one for this project and was filmed with no intention to be a storyboard. But it deals with events that are 100% true, rather than a memory of an event. I could use various POV’s by animating certain features, so I could animate a OSS POV at times, or a Noddy shot etc. I really really like this video and is my main influence so far.

Further developing my idea, I decided to give the dots one last go to see if there was any way of incorporating them to my liking. I enjoy both of these images, although after a while, I find the 2nd image a bit hard to look at. The first image is more what I had imagined my end product to look like. I’m going to start sketching storyboard/narrative ideas and then come back to digitally animating it in a day or two

I prefer the colour splashes without the dots involved with my favourite image being the largest image. In the next few days I will either find my graphics tab or borrow one from uni so i can start developing a more illustrative style - like Scarfe’s. Now that I have a specific artistic direction I want to go into, I’m going to start focusing on the narrative so I can then combined the two to create my storyboard
