Went to the USS Midway Museum in San Diego yesterday. Fantastic museum, lots to see--put aside an entire day for this one. More pics on Flickr.

'Twas the night before discovery cutoff...
Photos from Fanimecon 2016 are up on Flickr. Starting to get used to running around with just a 50mm prime, although it’s not great for large group shoots. Might look into getting a long prime for those. Anyhow, enjoy!
Quick study of the Washington State Supreme Court in Olympia, WA, with a little addition. Depth could have been better. I do like how the sky came out, though.
Photos from Emerald City Comicon 2016 are up on Flickr. I actually wasn’t satisfied with a lot of these photos and I’m not sure if my skills have gotten worse or if the full-frame format just makes defects (e.g. poor focus/depth of field) more apparent. I should get in some practice before Fanime!
Photos from Sakuracon 2016 are now up on Flickr! Not the greatest photography weather, and I really need to work on my depth of field and metering, but I had a fun time.
Cute Lawyers' Kate Scholer, as seen on my Christmas keychain charms this year.
Drew Kate again for this year’s Christmas card. I’ll probably update the actual comic sometime in 2016. Maybe.
Happy Halloween from Kate and the rest of the Cute Lawyers crew! I swear I’ll update the comic... eventually...
Photos from Kumoricon 2015 are now up on Flickr. This is the first full-length con I’ve shot with nothing but the 50mm f1.8 lens. On a full frame, the cropping isn’t as much of an issue--but then again, this is a very open con, so it was easier to open up distance than it would be normally. I’ll keep playing with it. I do like the sharpness.
Went to PAX yesterday to try out my new Nikon D700! Check out the results on Flickr. I’m fairly pleased with the low-light performance--natural light shots in the dark expo hall came out wonderfully shooting wide open on my 50mm f1.8D.
The comic is back, and so is Kate! How will she balance her duty to her client, her pride in her own music, and her responsibilities as an ethical (pfft) lawyer? Find out in another three months, I guess.
Pictures from Fanime 2015 are up on Flickr! Detailed impressions a little later.
May the Fourth be with you...
I updated my comic! And I’m actually doing a plot, wow! Look forward to seeing the exciting resolution sometime in 2017.
Photos from Sakura-Con are up. This time around, I tried playing with fill flash to balance out backlighting when the sun is behind a subject, and to soften up shadows when the sun is shining directly on a subject. Interesting results, but rather punishing on my battery. On Saturday alone, I took 1000 pictures and burned through two DSLR batteries.
Next time I’d like to work on background composition and bokeh a bit more. And of course, I intend to continue to practice low-light shooting. One thing that might be cool would be to get a wide-angle lens. Because I’m taller than most cosplayers, I might be able to get some cool exaggerated close-ups with a wide. Hmm.
And with con season over, maybe I’ll finally update my comic.
I went to Emerald City Comic Con and all I got was some pictures of Legos. Also tuberculosis and the Andromeda Strain.
