Hello, my name is Carina Cain, I am a 20 year old art student. My passion for art has been around ever since I can remember, and I'm here to share that with you. I am the oldest of three, and my life is all about family. Both the one I was born into, and my chosen family. I am currently enrolled in two art courses, "ARTT/GDES116: an examination of the digital tools used in the visual arts. Students are exposed to the theory and function of the major software packages and basic digital design principles utilized in the visual arts" and "ARTT 204 | Intermediate Drawing: A continuation of ARTT 100, with the further analysis and exploration of drawing skills, techniques and concepts. Emphasis is on more complex problem solving in the visual interpretation of natural and fabricated forms."
“Draw an apple using only the vector pen tool. Make the apple as real and three-dimensional as possible using fill colors and gradients. Avoid using any lines or strokes.“
This image was created using vector, every shape is a different layer. Organizing everything and deciding on colors was difficult.
“Create a layout for a fictional newsletter using your typographic hybrid from Illustrator. Set up your document with margins, columns, and a bleed. Select fonts, font size, leading, and paragraph spacing. Use text wrap if needed.”
For this assignment we were to create a newspaper layout using the logo we created in class, I went with a cup theme for mine.
“Design a logotype or wordmark that incorporates an image into the letterforms. The letters and the images must be integral to the finished whole.”
For this assignment I had to create a logo that would catch your eye. I decided to go down the road of making the word into the shape of the object it correlates to.
“Combine at least three photographic images to create a surreal composite image that could never be captured with a camera, but which looks plausible.”
This was an assignment for my digital tools class, I created a nerve cell with the center being earth, and lighting extending from the ends to signify how all life is interconnected.
This is a magazine layout I created for my ARTT116 course, featuring two drawings I created to interpret the sexism described in an article, showcasing that is still prevalent in today's society. Women are seen as sexual objects, referred to by the placement of the colored straps on the face, breast, and legs.
I have taken many art courses in my community college, and I am on track to transfer to the University of Maryland next fall. I have taken a dozen of mixed 100/200 level courses in order to find my path. I am currently enrolled in a level 100 graphic arts course as well as a level 200 studio course, and next semester my schedule will be filled to the brim with courses to prepare me for transfering. I love being challenged by my professors and peers to go outside my comfort zone when creating. You never know if the next push will launch you into something beautiful, until you try it.
My main goal in life is to be able to have a career in which I get to pursue my passion for art, and have that positively impact those around me. I wish to be able to inspire others through my work, and be inspired. For me, art is about conveying messages and emotions. I have found that sometimes I am unable to put my thoughts into words, and instead I create art to express myself.
