“And being able to swim.”
“What’s it like being able to swim? Is it always as cold as that.”
He was gonna say Ivatt. “Well it’s true.” He replied.
“Mhm. I agree, but time makes the heart grow fonder. Although if you couldn’t tell I was already pretty fond of you.”
Arthur thanked Oliver as his driver placed coal into his firebox once it had been dried out.
“Well, I suppose I have time to kill before my boiler heats up again.” Arthur mused. “I definitely have enough water.”
Arthur chuckled. “You’re too cute for your own good.”
“It’s nice to see you again, also. It’s been a while.”
Ha what
“Because why would they assume you’re in the cab of an engine pulling a passenger train.” Arthur replied, completely deadpan.
“By the sound of things the criminals are already dealing with the police as we speak.” He paused, letting out a sigh. “And if they plan to escape while killing you in the process I doubt stopping to shoot you in front of an entire train is not the way to go.”
“Hey, look at you adding and subtracting stuff.” He’s proud.
“Oh and don’t worry about it. I mean we might both be old but we’re still fresh faced and handsome.” He paused. “‘Specially you.”
Ha what
Arthur’s driver simply grunted in response, patting Arthur’s side.
“I’m sure you’ll be okay.” He called back. “Don’t see why they’d just attack a random train out here.”
🔫
“Relax, I’m fifty. Ain’t too far off you.”
“But I guess that makes you the wise old elder.”
Ha what
“Well sorry, I don’t got any lamps.” Arthur replied.
“I really shouldn’t be out this late at all.”
Silence fell again, no more gun shots or sounds of violence. Just the quiet night atmosphere.
Somehow that was worse.
Ha what
Although scared Arthur remained stoic, for his sake if not Jason’s.
“I certainly hope so too.” He muttered under his breath, slowly picking up his pace.
STOP
“You didn’t, you were just voicing frustrated.”
“It happens to all of us, also like I said you’re ninety. You can do what you want.”
Ha what
“Well what do you have to do then?” Arthur asked, cocking an eyebrow. “And why didn’t you lead with this.”
They were in a rather vacant area now. It made him some what nervous. However it was a passenger train- so Arthur doubted the people would attack now of all times.
“Ryan, We’re from England. ‘Dammit’ is child’s play.”
“It’s okay darlin’ you didn’t do anything wrong.”
Oh, he’s not flirting he’s just socially inept. “Nothing, never mind.”
“And like I said, there are far worse things you could have said, you’re fine sweetie.”
Ha what
“You’re his assistant?” He mused. “Well listen, Sir Topham has his connections. I’m sure he’ll get you to safety.”
Arthur’s face was solemn as his made his way through the cold night. “I’ll drop you off at his office.”
“Well, you’ve aged well!” He would have kept going, but Ryan threw him a curve ball.
“Oh- Uh Ryan. I didn’t know you were into that sorta thing.” No Arthur stop.
“It’s alright, It’s alright.” Arthur responded, although he couldn’t help but chuckle.
“It’s not like I’m gonna scold you or anything. You’re like ninety years old or something.” So much for being ‘non-innocent’.
