You can enjoy things in fiction that would be awful in the real world. Like playing a murderhobo in a game! In the real world, being or supporting a murderer-thief would be pretty damn awful, while in the game it's just good fun. Same with anything else you choose to do with the pixels on the screen, like kinks that don't affect anyone real, so they're okay in fiction, but would be pretty damn bad in real life.
No one else is responsible for your online experience. They are required not to harass you, but they are not and never will be obligated to not post about ships, kinks, or tropes you dislike just to avoid you seeing them. It's up to you to blacklist words or phrases, block tags, or even block users as needed to avoid seeing content that upsets you.
No one can force you to read anything against your consent. Any content you don't like seeing can be instantly avoided by closing out of the offending post/fic.
You are not owed an online experience free of discomfort.
Nothing that happens in your imagination can ever make you a bad person. Words you write or read about fictional characters will never make you a bad person.
The claim that media consumption influences real-life behavior is intellectually dishonest and serves only to excuse the behavior of real offenders.
Fiction is a safe way to explore horrifying or confusing concepts. Therapists agree that fiction, even (or especially) about taboo topics is a good coping mechanism, especially, but not exclusively, for trauma survivors. Fiction is to adults what play therapy is to children. This doesn't stop being true if the work in question is of a sexual nature.
Sex isn't an inherently worse or better motivation than anything else. A work written to create feelings of arousal isn't dirty, shameful, or in any way less pure than works written to entertain, provoke moral questions, or for other reasons. And worth noting is that multiple purposes can exist in the same story, especially fanfiction.
You aren't entitled to an explanation for why someone reads, writes, or otherwise enjoys certain works, kinks, tropes, ships, etc.
Okay, this should be no surprise to most of you, but Eridan x Everyone is happening next!
I wanted to go a bit into how I set the tournament up, since there might be some characters that seem like wild choices, but this is by no means necessary info. Mostly just wanted to announce the upcoming tournament!
Behind the Scenes:
I did the same as Karkat and grab all the Alternian trolls and all the Kids, then looked at top ships. This time, though, I was trying to land on a specific amount of ships to make the seeding easier. This took a LOT of trial and error, but I ended up with 60 ships which will be split up similar to the All Kids and Dancestors to give us a total of 8 rounds, with Round 2, Round 4, and the Quarterfinals adding new ships.
For context, Karkat x Everyone had 49 ships.
So instead of stopping at the second or third page like I did with Karkat and then adding all the Sprites because I believe that was a request from the person who suggested the tournament, I did a deep dive and included most canon characters that have even one work. There are 9 characters that have 0 works: 3 Ancestors and 6 Sprites.
I believe there were a few characters that did have works, but some got cut because I felt including the Sprites and the full Ancestors roster (since there were only 3 that had 0 works) made more sense than the ones cut.
I think I did better seeding them, too, since I didn't rely on just the number of works. The ones I reserved for the Quarterfinals aren't even the top four! They're all in the top 10, but I really tried to think about current fandom vibes and how the Alternian Trolls Tournament went, so we'll see if my vibes guessing paid off!
Since I was kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel to get to a number that worked without cutting too many, the first round might have some "wtf?" ships. Which happens when you get a bunch of ships with only one work in a fandom that's been around since 2009 lmao
Anyway, as of writing this, the polls are in the process of being drafted (I have to make some new assets, especially since I don't already have assets for several of these characters much less shipped with Eridan), but hopefully I will be ready to queue them when the All Kids tournament ends!
... And then I'll need to work on seeding the Rarepair tournament lol
hey so trans men are being forcibly detransitioned in prisons in the hopes to preserve their fertility. and the president admitted this but it didnt even start under him its been happening. why arent we talking about this? why isnt this a discussion?
hey man i dont think people pushing for competent reproductive care and awareness for pregnant trans men caused the government to forcibly detransition trans men in prisons i think its happening because the government hates trans men and views people with uteruses as incubators. like i dont think that has anything to do with it and frankly i think youre a piece of shit for saying this if im being honest
That comment is so telling that people (even amongst the trans community) seem to think that bigots don’t realise that trans men exist. This insinuation that society only recognises trans men as having the ability to get pregnant due to trans men openly discussing it, and not due to the fact that… society still views us as women and therefore knows full well that we can get pregnant. Society has BEEN detransitioning and forcefully impregnating trans men for centuries, it’s only now that the government is freely able to put a label to the type of “women” they’ve been trying to eradicate. Unfortunately, it’s a label that no one gives a fuck about, so it’s easier to pretend that when reproductive issues and systemic sexual abuse comes up, trans men are just magically exempt from this because we’re men.
The idea of Jax being pretty heavily implied to be a trans egg that refused to hatch makes his (using he/him because trans or otherwise, Jax has only been shown using he/him) abstraction so much more tragic to me. All this started with a family that pushed toxic masculinity on Jax and laughed in the face of his own emotions. That trauma made Jax self hating, which ruined every positive relationship he had until his self-loathing and denial basically ate him whole.
It’s sad to think that there might’ve been a world where Jax had a healthy relationship with his family, where he could be embraced and loved regardless of interests and self expression. One where him and Ribbit could’ve had things work out, where him and Pomni remained friends, where he got to see this place he once considered to be like Hell become a place that was basically a utopia of self expression, one where he could be happy and loved and feel safe enough to become the woman he never got to realize he wanted to be.
It’s so heartbreaking that Jax forced himself to repress so hard that he never got to see what he could’ve been someday.
Jax is an egg that broke itself before it ever got the chance to hatch, and that’s so tragically real because it’s a trans experience that I’m sure has sadly happened many times before considering how awful the trans community is treated. And it’s so powerful to have that experience acknowledged, even through implications. Because if it can make even one person feel seen in a world that refuses to understand them, then that’s worth so much more than I think people realize- ESPECIALLY nowadays.
