The piece depicts the current generation of Haitians proudly wearing the flag on their sashes as they graduate and reaches even beyond the Haitian revolution across the Atlantic Ocean following the trail of blood of our ancestors who were brought here from the African kingdoms of The Kongo, Benin, Togoland and various countries in West and Central Africa. The woman to the far left represents an ancestor from the Dahomey tribe, the tribe that Jean Jacque Dessalines aunt Victoria Montou (the woman that trained him to fight) belonged to. The Dora Milaj (King T’Challa’s all women security detail in the movie Black Panther) was inspired by the all women army of the Dahomey tribe. So when you are looking at the women warriors in that movie, know that you are looking at a depiction that’s is based off your ancestors. Male in the top right represents a warrior ancestor from the Kingdom of The Kongo. Male to the bottom left represents an ancestor that fought in the Haitian Revolution defeating the armies of the French, British, and Spanish. The male to the bottom right represents our older cousins, brothers, uncles, and even fathers that were the early members of Zoe Pound in the 80s and 90s, which were labeled a gang but is simply the evolution of the spirit of our ancestors doing what they have always done, banding together when faced with adversity to become a force. Right or wrong in the way they went about it, in many cases they not only solidified what is know as the Haitian-American today, commonly known as the Zoe’s but they also established most importantly respect, for we are all aware of the days before this respect was established.... These blueprint makers and architects set the foundation of the aesthetic, mindset and impenetrable pride of the current generation of Haitians.
